What is diesel and brunos relationship in your AU? Is diesel his family/caretaker?
Tumblr media
There are a lot of children on Sodor who live there without parents, for example, Luke. But Duncan looks after Luke, and Diesel looks after Bruno.
Bruno just showed up one day at a gas station where Diesel is working. Diesel tried to find his parents, but to no success. Bruno stayed overnight at the gas station, and when no one came for him the next day, Diesel took him to his house on Sodor to feed him something more than a brisk breakfast from the gas station shop.
Bruno has stayed there ever since. He lives in the house with Diesel and Paxton, sometimes Arry and Bert look after him.

was there any traumatic events in thomas' or percy's past that you can tell us without spoiling important parts of casa tidmouth?
(backstories under the cut)
thomas a. billington:
thomas lived with an older brother that provided for him in sodor. they’re not rich or even doing the greatest economically, but overall they lived a peaceful and uneventful life. his brother worked as a janitor in the north western railways and liked to answer his questions and imaginations about a steam engine. his brother would buy figurines or miniature toys, both to keep his brother occupied at home and to make him happy  as it’s his biggest interest. however, he never told little thomas about the details like the railways he worked for. most of the time his brother left him alone at home after cleaning their small flat and cooking meals for him. his brother was also insanely overprotective of him and always told him to never ever come home late or go near the docks or the railways. by any means, thomas depended largely on his older brother and they had a good relationship even though there’s this tinge of suspicion that grew.
thomas used to wonder what his parents were like, but his brother never wanted to elaborate on that one and constantly changed the topic when asked. thomas once jokingly asked if he can travel outside sodor, but he only got a glare for his brother. thomas wanted to hang out with his classmates, but his brother kept nagging on and on about curfews and this and that. everything  added to the growing strain between them as they grew older. eventually, thomas developed reckless habits like missing classes, picking random fights with his schoolmates, and even driving past the speed limit as a way to get rid of his frustration and make him feel like he actually has control over something for once.
thomas’ brother took quick notice of thomas’ negative behaviors. what was usually a peaceful dinner time was now constant bickering between them. he caught a slight smell of cigarette once, which sealed the deal. scoldings weren’t working out, persuasions weren’t working out, nothing’s working out. they no longer see eye to eye. his brother had enough of this behavior and eventually met thomas behind a shed at brendam docks late at night in the middle of the rain, where thomas disguised himself in order to hide from him and ultimately got caught.
thomas then got into an argument with his brother. thomas said that his brother always hid secrets from him, never told him anything, and even expressed that he’s incredibly jealous of his friends who have “normal” siblings. hell, even thomas didn’t know where his brother worked. truth to be told, his brother had provided for him and wanted the best for him, but his ways weren’t the most conventional. once again, they don’t see eye to eye. they got into a nasty verbal argument where both parties say things they didn’t mean to.
in an outburst, thomas slipped off the docks. his brother tried to pull him up, but the wet surface of the docks made him slip as well. they then plunge into the sea below, their cries drowned out by the stormy weather.
in a magical turn of events, thomas survived. his brother did not.
the traumatic memory makes his brain shut off the memory of his brother’s death. he lived the rest of his life thinking his brother abandoned him, which eventually developed as him slowly forgetting about his brother and merely thinking that he has forgotten about something – or rather someone – important. he eventually dropped out of high school because he feels like it’s no fun (read: he doesn’t particularly stand out or useful) and partially because he felt like he’ll never become anything. so then thomas tried jobhopping but, as usual, nothing worked out. many people consider him too reckless, too useless, or even too… “childish”. all of this is because of how he was so dependent on his older brother and was shielded from the outside world when he was younger which makes being independent a great challenge for him.
thomas then found an advertisement for sodor’s railwayas and remembered that he does know a thing or two about locomotive anatomy. thomas then had a sliver of hope that things will be fun there. he wondered what the world that his brother constantly shielded him from was like. he then started working at age 19 and met the people that are going to stick with him for a long while.
thomas doesn’t really feel out of place in the north western railways. truth to be told, it embodies what sodor is all about. it’s wacky, it’s filled with accidents that nobody took seriously because everyone always turn out okay in the end, and most importantly: it’s fun.
and then thomas grew bored. enter percy and eventually, lady.
percival avonside:
if one were to ask percy about his parents, he’d find it easier to do four-digit multiplications than recount anything about his parents’ past, especially his mother. he knew a thing or two from his father’s side, but his mother had a plethora of things she didn’t want to tell him. she would look scared of even worried whenever little percy asked her harmless questions like if they’ll ever meet his grandparents, uncles, aunts from his mother’s side. his father usually told him to zip it. little percy complies, because he’s usually an obedient boy.
percy’s parents were also incredibly protective of him. they would get angry at him for asking “personal” questions or just mess up at school, but right after they’re done, they would hug him and offer lots of apologies to him. whenever percy wants to get angry at how they treated him, he felt like it’s difficult. however, he grew inceasingly uncomfortable around his parents and bottled up any kind of anger at them. his parents didn’t trust him as much as he didn’t trust them. yet he always thought, “maybe it’s for my own good. maybe I’m just overthinking things. maybe they definitely do want the best for me.” this became the start of his constant repressed anger, but also his wavering image of others.
percy was a promising member of sodor’s sobriquets, his high school’s baseball team. he’s the pitcher and every member of the team relied on him heavily. percy’s also quite popular due to how athletic he is. some of his schoolmates even fall head over heels for him. all the attention, reliance, and most importantly, neverending presence of his teammates and school body provided him with everything he wanted. he needed them as much as they needed him. for once, percy believed that people actually do trust him.
however, this became a problem for him. percy became weak to criticism and assumed that friendly jabs meant that said person is angry or disappointed at him. he gets frustrated and angry at others quickly, but then immediately backed away once his anger flickers out. just like how he was to his parents.
percy did notice this behavior of his and tries his best to fix it. he did anything to keep relationships and friendships going strong even at the expense of his own comfort. whenever he got angry, he bottled it up. whenever his teachers scolded him, he just nodded and bottled it up. he believed he can keep it all from spilling out at least until the end of the school year…
…then a big game came along.
percy wasn’t doing the greatest during an important game against the neighboring school. he had a migraine but didn’t tell his team and still came for the baseball match because everyone needed him. his coach was gettting frustrated, his parents were frowning thinly in the bleachers, his teammates were pathetically (pathetically!!!!!) telling him that he’ll do better in the next inning. he can feel them losing trust on him. that’s not good. not good at all. but percy still managed to bottle it all up.
the following inning came. the cheering from the dugout now turned into shouting. percy believed that they’re all mocking him. the bleachers became quiet. percy thought that they’re all waiting for him to mess up. the batter is smiling at him. percy perceives this as a taunt. not being able to hold it in any longer, he threw his curve ball as hard as he could. it was fast. it hit the batter square in the head, and he fell to the ground with a heavy thud when all his teammates gather around him. percy just looked in disbelief at the sight and stood still on the mound until the umpire told him that there’s a change in pitcher.
the next day, the entire school started spreading rumours about percy. at first they dug at percy’s incapability of throwing right, then claimed that he’s overly competitive, then said that they’ve never really liked him, then dug into his personal home life. they all made assumptions of him. he then quit the baseball team because he just thought of unplelasant things whenever he saw the word “baseball”.
ever since then, percy thought that if only he was more patient, nothing would’ve changed. whenever he wanted to become honest, he just ruined his relationships with others. whenever he wanted others to trust him, they never wanted to. percy rarely ever expressed his own feelings and believed that he should just keep whatever he thinks about to himself. he shouldn’t really trust his own opinions of others and always assume that they mean well no matter what they did to him. it’s better to have friends that don’t understand you well as long as they’re willing to stick with you.
seeing how he is starting the middle of act 1, I don’t think he managed to go through that mindset.

Lockdown
Prompt 2. Hazel- @predawnrex04
Other Stories
Lockdown
Feb 1st 2020
The immigration and citizenship office in Tidmouth had been exceptionally busy the last few weeks, but now it was almost empty. The eerie quite did nothing to settle the pacific's nerves. In the distance Gordon could see Tina at the docks, the massive liner loaded to capacity with people leaving Sodor. When she returned, she would be empty except for her crew. The question was, would one of his crew be leaving with her.
"Don't worry old boy." His driver reassured him. "She has Jane Hatt on her side, and all the paperworks in order. They'll approve her." Even behind the mask, she couldn't quite hide her own worry.
"I'll relax when she is here. There need not been a meeting at all. Our controller's word should have been enough. Instead they insist on their right to question her. Now of all times."
The doors finally opening prevented Rachel from responding. Jane Hatt walked out with their firewoman in tow. The controller strode over to Rachel, "Get her into a Fireman's uniform, we'll get her her own as quickly as possible, but you'll have to make due for now."
"Does this mean..." Rachel asked.
"As of today, I'm a Sodor citizen, employed by the North Western Railway." Hazel spoke quietly.
A long whistle bast resounded over the harbor. The four turned too see Tina drop her mornings. "And not a moment too soon."
The fat controller put her hand on Hazel's shoulder, "There was never any doubt my dear. They put your application off till last because it was only a formality. The meeting was only a measure to prevent claims of favoritism."
Hazel sighed dejectedly, "Maybe, but it was still stressful as hell."
Rachel looked concerned, "Isn't this what you wanted Hazel? You been working towards this for years."
"Yeah but...it was supposed to be a celebration. Not a hail mary in the face of the world going to hell." She leaned back against Gordon's buffers and looked up, "I'm beyond grateful to be staying here, but I can't shake the feeling its going to get worse before it gets better."
Jane nodded grimly, "London's still refusing to acknowledge the problem. They're mad we're turning away tourist traffic."
"The states aren't much better," Hazel admitted, "I keep hoping that they'll take action, but..."
"They're too afraid of losing money to admit we have a pandemic on hand." Rachel guessed.
"That's about the sum of it." Hazel rubbed her face.
In the distance tugs had maneuvered Tina into the bay and dropped their lines. She sounded four long blasts on her whistles, as she got under way, quickly gaining speed.
"I've always dreamed of sailing on her." Hazel mused, "but I'm glad I'm not on this voyage."
Rachel laid a hand on her shoulder. "As are we. I think the engines were making a plan last night to hide you if they denied your application."
"Of course not." Gordon said with an insulted huff, "those plans were made weeks ago."
Jane raised an eyebrow, "I'm going to pretend I didn't just hear one of my engines admit to planning a kidnapping."
"How ready are we?" Hazel asked.
"As we can be." Jane reassured her. "Come Monday all non-essential traffic from outside the island will be halted. All our warehouses are fully stocked, and the hospitals are on standby."
"And what's to keep the bloody tourists from crossing anyway." Rachel muttered, only to flinch as Hatt fixed her with a glare. "You know I'm right. There will always be idiots who ignore the rules."
"That's why we're cutting off the Island."
Hazel and Rachel's jaws dropped. Gordon looked approving.
"Can we even do that?" Hazel asked.
"The North Western controls the Tunnel to the Isle of Man. We're sealing both ends tonight. We also control the Vicarstown lift bridge. When it lifts Monday morning, the controls will be severed on our end. The road bridge currently has a section removed for repair. How unfortunate that it won't be back before the island enters lockdown." The fourth Fat Controller smiled grimly, "I can't promise that Sodor won't see covid. But it will have to fight for every inch."

Scotsman X Diesel 10 headcanons
Tumblr media
(yeah, it’s probably an odd pair and y’all are probably furrowing your eyebrows in confusion, but idrc and thought they kinda complimented each other, enough talking for now, let’s hop into the headcanons!~) Before Meeting
*Before meeting, Diesel 10 had already known/heard a lot about Flying Scotsman and his greatest achievements, at first he saw him like any other steam engine and despised him just as much, but over time he gained a sort of admiration for him that he hadn’t shared with any other engine, that admiration would soon turn into a full blown crush, though ofc he wouldn’t admit it outright to anyone, but the couple of posters and newspaper clippings in his shed would tell you otherwise... *Before meeting, Scotsman had heard a few tales about Diesel 10 during his visits to Sodor, though he never fully believed them because he knew how... ‘close minded’ some of the Sodor engines could be, plus he was an open minded individual to begin with due to traveling all across the world and meeting all sorts of individuals, so unless he saw it for himself he wouldn’t fully believe the stories/rumors, he never gets a chance to find out if they are true or not until much later on, due to Diesel 10 usually locking himself away in his shed when not working... When they meet *How they met was simple, Diesel 10 had been driving around to blow off some ‘steam’ after a particularly rough meeting with the Fat Controller discussing about his shed door being broken, which was ‘put aside to be fixed later’ almost a year ago and still hadn’t been dealt with by then, that’s when he pulled up into the station where Scotsman was supposed to be meeting his brother Gordon for lunch, unfortunately Gordon was not available as he was in for repairs and wouldn’t be seeing anyone until tomorrow, Scotsman was about to head off to do something else after hearing this, but before he could get far he finally took notice of Diesel 10 on the track next to him, who was snooping on the convo he had been having with the station master... *Diesel 10 was instantly panicked as he had been spotted and feared that he had already made a bad first impression if Scotsman hadn’t already known about him before now and was prepared for him to start yelling at him, but Scotsman only seemed slightly taken aback by this, he wasn’t a stranger to having people sneak up on him and ask to take photos or to sign things- don’t ask how- so he simply laughed it off and made a few jokes about it, his eyes landing on the warship’s paintwork and gnarly claw on top of his roof, instantly recognizing these things he asks for his name and is delighted- much to Diesel 10′s surprise- to find out it was him!... *Scotsman begins talking about how he had been hearing his name around the island and had wanted to meet him, but ofc never could until now, further making Diesel 10 surprised and he even felt some blush forming on his cheeks, after all, he never thought such a fine, pristine and famous steam engine would want anything to do with a smelly, slightly broken down and scary looking diesel engine like himself, guess he was proven wrong!... *They get to talking, both deciding to head off and hang out for the rest of the day, since Diesel 10 wasn’t needed at the time and Scotsman wouldn’t have anything to do until tomorrow, despite causing a small stir amongst those who passed them by, it was going smoothly and at this point Scotsman could confirm he also had some feelings for his clawed companion, something he had questioned after knowing of the diesel’s existence for awhile, but was only comfortable admitting to it after seeing him in person to make sure the feelings were real... *overall it was a successful hangout and they got along a lot better then anyone would’ve guessed, even after Diesel 10 shamefully confessed that some of the rumors/stories were true, this didn’t change Scotsman’s feelings about him, if anything his honestly about it made his feelings grow stronger and gave him enough incentive to heavily hint at his feelings for the warship, confessing that he ‘always had a soft spot for the rougher and meaner looking engines like him’ and asked for another ‘hangout/date’ together, Diesel 10- very flusteredly- said yes to this and from that point forwards they became an item...
How they are now
*Despite getting flack from the others and being apart for long periods of time, they are quite happy with each other, while the steam engines are not all completely approving of the relationship- with the exceptions of Gordon, Percy, Thomas (kinda) and Edward- the diesels however all were very accepting and Scotsman was almost instantly welcomed by them after Diesel 10 introduced him!... *their dates together usually consist of driving around Sodor talking about what sort of shenanigans they’ve been up to while they were separated, or they get together to have lunch, sometimes Scotsman will bring back gifts and momentos from his travels for Diesel10 and sometimes the rest of the diesels at the Dieselworks. *Diesel 10 does his best to return his kindness, although he isn’t able to get gifts quite like Scotsman’s, he can at least make a mean apple pie, yes you heard that right, he knows how to bake, while sometimes he needs human assistance he can manage the kitchen on his own, Scotsman is always pleased to receive such baked goods from him and insists he makes something that he can take home to show off and enjoy when they’re apart. *Diesel 10 has offered countless times to show Scotsman how to bake/cook good food, because well... Scotsman has an interesting pallet, it’s so outrageous and appalling that it makes the most questionably appetited engines- which is most of them- gag and turn away in disgust, but Scotsman doesn’t mind/care, tho he has been banned from every kitchen within 80 miles of his location because of his crimes against food. *Scotsman is the only engine to ever make Diesel 10 get all soft and mushy and openly show of his dorkier side, despite Diesel 10 being mildly embarrassed if others are around to see it/make fun of him for it, he actually doesn’t mind the attention from Scotsman and won’t really try to stop him from doing whatever it is he was doing to make him feel this way. *they have flirting/compliment wars to see who will get all flustered first... Scotsman- being the natural flirt he is- usually wins, which is part of what makes his dear Diesel 10 a mushy mess. *if you were to catch them at the right time you might hear them singing together, as Scotsman naturally has a good singing voice and Diesel 10 is not half bad either, but he still needs a little practice, thus whenever they meet they’ll practice together. *Scotsman also helps Diesel 10 with confidence, because surprise, surprise! he has some lack in self confidence because of everything that happened in the past and the fact most people/engines outside of the Dieselworks give him dirty looks, hence why he usually hides away, but they’re working on it. *Diesel 10 now refers to Gordon as his ‘favorite brother-in-law’ and likes to antagonize him about it any chance he gets, often times coming to wherever he’s working/following him while doing express runs to do exactly that, Gordon ofc isn’t a big fan of this, but he allows it since Diesel 10 has mellowed out after meeting his brother and Scotsman seems quite happy with him, so he treats it as a minor annoyance more then anything, just like how he treats Scotsman’s ‘Little brother’ comments. *Scotsman often sleeps over at the Dieselworks whenever he’s visiting for a few days, whether it’s just for the sake of visiting or if it’s for some sort of competition on the island he is competing in. *speaking of competitions... while not always able to, Diesel 10 and some of the other diesels try to make it to see Scotsman compete, after all he’s one of them now and they do whatever they can to support him and will even hold a mini celebration with him after all is said and done, regardless if Scotsman won or not, it’s more-so an excuse for him and Diesel 10 to snuggle up next to each other and enjoy each other’s company.
