Mumbai, October 9th, 2023: Pawan Sehrawat emerged as the most expensive buy on Day 1 of the Mashal Sports-organized Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 10 Player Auction held in Mumbai on Monday, 9th August 2022. Meanwhile, Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyaneh emerged as the most expensive foreign player at the Pro Kabaddi League Player Auction, being bought for a whopping INR 2.35 by Puneri Paltan.
This Player Auction also witnessed a jump in the 1 crore club from four players in the last Player Auction to five players. Pawan Sehrawat, Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyaneh, Maninder Singh, Fazel Atrachali and Siddharth Desai were part of the 1 crore club in today's Player Auction.
A total of 23 players were sold to the 12 franchise teams with as many as 6 Final Bid Match (FBM) cards being used on Day 1.
PKL stars continue to dominate
The highlight of the auction was Pawan Kumar Sehrawat smashing his own record after he was bought by Telugu Titans for a whopping sum of INR 2.6 crore. Meanwhile, Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyaneh broke the record for being the most expensive foreigner at the PKL Auction after he was bought for INR 2.35 crore. Maninder Singh returned to Bengal Warriors after the franchise utilized the FBM card to match Telugu Titans' bid of INR 2.12 crore.
Iranians in demand
The Iranian kabaddi legend Fazel Atrachali crossed the 1 crore mark once again after he was acquired by Gujarat Giants for INR 1.6 crore. He also retained his record for the most expensive defender in PKL history. Meanwhile, Atrachali's compatriot Mohammad Esmaeil Nabibakhsh was bought by the Giants for INR 22 lakh.
Speaking on behalf of Mashal Sports, Mr. Anupam Goswami, Head Sports Leagues, Mashal Sports and League Commissioner, Pro Kabaddi League said, “It was an exceptional day at the Pro Kabaddi League Player Auction as we witnessed five players cross the 1 crore mark. It was extremely thrilling to see Pawan reclaim his record for being the highest-ever buy after Shadloui had broken his previously held record earlier in the day. There's more action to come on Day 2 and hopefully, all franchises will be able to construct well-balanced squads for Season 10.”

Ninth Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) season began on October 7, 2022, and lasted two months, taking place at four different locations. In contrast to the prior season, spectators were permitted to watch the game live, and the league stages were split among three locations. The first leg was held in Bengaluru, with the second leg taking place in Pune, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. The only team that didn’t advance to the playoffs but still finished in the top four and made it to the semifinals in season 9 was Tamil Thalaivas. Tamil Thalaivas, which debuted in season 5, has only ever placed last or in the bottom two.
The Pink Panthers main raider, Pawan Sehrawat, was sidelined for the whole season after suffering an injury in the first game. Things grew worse for the southern team when Sagar, the right corner defender, was hurt in the latter stages of the league stage. Even though the team lost two key players, Ashan Kumar supported each player’s performance rather than depending on their brilliance. The void left by Pawan Sehrawat was filled by a teenage prodigy named Narender Kandola. For the Tamil Thalaivas, Narender Kandola recorded 243 raid points in a single season (the record was previously held by Ajay Thakur) Pink Panthers.

Auctions
In the PKL’s history Pink Panthers, Pawan Sehrawat was the most expensive purchase and made history. The most expensive purchase in the PKL’s inaugural season was roughly 14 lakh rupees, but as the league has expanded quickly, players are now in a solid financial position. Pawan paid a staggering 2.26 crores to Tamil Thalaivas. The top bids in PKL season nine went to Bengaluru Bulls for Vikash Kandola (1.7 crores), Puneri Paltan for Fazel Athrachali (1.38 crores), and U Mumba for Guman Singh (1.25 crores).
Twenty international players were present as opposed to 24 (in season 8) after each organization had used up its two-player allotment.

Bharat scored around 130 raid points while under Pawan Sehrawat’s supervision in the eighth season of the Pakistan Super League. After Pawan Sehrawat changed bases, Bharat assumed the lead raiding position in the presence of seasoned raider Vikash Kandola (2nd costliest buy in season 9).

Naveen Kumar got out to a strong start in the season, scoring nine straight Super 10, but he lost his mojo in the middle. In the last round of league play, he made a great recovery and led Dabang Delhi KC to a fourth straight playoff position.

Ankush Rathee matches: 24; tackle points: 89
Ankush Rathee had 89 tackle points in his first PKL season and had help from veteran defenders Sunil Kumar and Sahul Kumar. The Jaipur Pink Panthers were the only team in PKL season 9 to have three defenders who scored 50 or more tackle points. Due to outside circumstances, Chiyanedh missed the first two matches but has since played consistently. He is the only defender in history to accumulate 16 tackle points in a single game, all of which came from super tackles. The Iranian carried on where
he had left off the season before and was once more listed among the top three tacklers in terms of points.
During the ninth season of the Vivo Pro Kabaddi League, Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyaneh improved as a defender. Chiyaneh set the season record for most tackle points (16 points) in a single game with 84 tackle points Pink Panthers.

Together with left-corner defender Aman, Saurabh Nandal combined for 72 tackle points. For the third straight season, Saurabh has led the Bengaluru Bulls’ defense with solid performance. Bharat made sure the Bulls successfully collected raid points, and Saurabh Nandal engaged the opposing team’s raiders.
In the ninth season of the Vivo Pro Kabaddi league, Nadal’s 72 tackle points helped the Bulls place in the semifinals.
