Indiana court upholds life sentence for man convicted of murder and cannibalism
On May 17, 2023, The Indiana Supreme Court in Indianapolis upheld the life sentence without parole for a 41-year-old Indiana man convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend and dismembering her body before partially eating several of her internal organs.

using an electric saw to open her skull and gobble part of her brain, lungs and heart in Jeffersonville, Indiana, is now denying the murder act he confessed to when arrested in 2014.
The deceased was reportedly found under a vinyl camping tent draped over her bath in September 2014. The cops said her skull was removed, and a “plate with what appeared to be skull bone and blood” was also found.
At a pre-trial hearing at Clark County Court, Oberhansley said allegations of him raping his late ex-girlfriend the weekend before were “bull crap lies”. He thereafter, suggested that investigators missed the real murder weapon and that it couldn’t have been the “cheap little knife”.
The alleged Cannibal Killer who ignored his frustrated lawyer's warning to keep quiet, had earlier been deemed mentally unfit to stand trial in October 2017, but last November a doctor found his competency had been restored at a psychiatric hospital.
Before Tammy's murder, Oberhansley was free on parole for fatally gunning down his girlfriend Sabrina Elder, 17, in a drug-fuelled jealous rage in 1998. His mother and sister were also victims of his rage, as it was gathered that he shot them in the back, before tucking the weapon under his chin and pulling the trigger to give himself a “partial lobotomy.”
Oberhansley’s trial is due to start on August 19, and he faces life in jail without parole if convicted.

Prosecutors allege Oberhansley broke into the Jeffersonville home of Blanton in September 2014, and that he raped her, fatally stabbed her and ate parts of her body. "This matter has been going on for four years now, and it's high time that the victim's family saw justice done," Clark County Prosecuting Attorney Jeremy Mull told the Courier Journalafter the hearing. (AP) The letter from the psychiatrist filed with Clark County Circuit Court noted that Oberhansley's competency has been restored since he was committed there last October to undergo competency restoration. In some of his early court appearances after his arrest, Obserhansley had outbursts in court and said his name was Zeus, WAVE3 reported. Oberhansley's attorneys requested in court Thursday to have a month to talk with him and form an opinion on his competency. During the hearing, Oberhansley spoke up, telling the judge he needed to fire his attorneys, according to the Courier Journal. "They're trying to control my thoughts," he said in court. "They're trying to control my mind." Judge Vicki Carmichael told him he needed to work with his attorneys, and scheduled another hearing on Sept. 21 to discuss the matter. Prosecutors have previously said they will seek the death penalty for Blanton's killing. Before his arrest in 2015, Oberhansley was free on parole for a previous killing when he was a teenager, according to WAVE3.
