Vande Bharat Express - The new era of travelling in Indian Railways
Tumblr media
There was a time when we used to dream about Bullet Train running in India. Well, as of today the construction of India’s first bullet train is going on a fast pace between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. It’s a long way to go, but there is already a trainset running, equivalent to bullet train, known as the “Vande Bharat Express.” Read on to find out more about this train.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------Introduction About Vande Bharat:
The Vande Bharat Express (Formerly Train18), is an emu (electric multiple – unit) train being managed by Indian Railways. This train comes under semi high-speed category that can achieve speeds up to 160 km/hr. The first train was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 17,2019 that is running from New Delhi to Varanasi.
It has become popular among passengers as well as critics. They make sure to click photos of this train, especially near cabin. And the train is being praised for its speed, comfort level, amenities, and other features. This train is also behind the reason for boosting tourism in India.
As per the plan, gradually more Vande Bharat train services would be introduced in the coming years. As per the Indian railway’s expectations, these trains will play a lead role in improving the travelling experience for passengers.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------Additional details about Vande Bharat Express:
The train has 16 coaches in total, 14 ac chair cars and 2 ac executive chair cars.
There are also 8 coacher Vande Bharat trains, Coach composition - 7 ac chair cars and 1 ac executive chair car.
The capacity of carrying passengers in 16 coacher is 1,128 while for 8 coacher it is 530.
Top speed of this train is 160 km/hr.
Vande Bharat has been introduced as to cover the two major cities within a day’s time, a concept similar to Shatabdi express.
For instance, the train journey between Mumbai Central and Gandhi Nagar is 6 hours and 25 minutes.
Ticket fare for ac chair car is ₹1255 and ₹2435 for executive ac chair car.
It is a significant achievement for Indian railways. Vande Bharat is a symbol of India’s upgrading technology and is committed to provide the world class services to its citizens.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------History of Vande Bharat:
It was in 2016 when Indian railways decided to develop a new semi high – speed train. The codename for this project was called as “Train 18”.
Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai took the responsibility for developing Train18. Manufacturing of train coaches and train sets takes places here, also known as the railway manufacturing unit in India. This coach factory has developed and designed several trains, some of them are – Rajdhani, Durunto, Shatabdi etc.
It took around 2 years to develop Train18. Thereafter a number of trials was performed by Train18, and the trials was successful. Later, the train was cleared for commercial runs and the first Vande Bharat express ran on February 2019 by prime minister Narendra Modi.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------Vande Bharat 2.0:
Vande Bharat 2.0 is the upgraded version of Vande Bharat express – the semi high speed train that was introduced in India in the year 2019. The new trains have good number of improvements such as: -
A lighter design, making the train faster and fuel – efficient.
The train is equipped with Train Collision Avoidance System (Also known as KAVACH), and other new safety features.

The introduction of Vande Bharat 2.0 is a major step forward for Indian Railways, and it is expected to provide a much-needed boost to the country's transportation sector.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------Design of Vande Bharat:
Each coach has its own motor and is powered by distribution traction power technology. This allows the train to accelerate and decelerate quickly and to reach the maximum speed.
It is the aerodynamic design that makes it famous among people. The Vande Bharat is shaped like a bullet with a smooth and rounded front that will help to reduce the air resistance. This makes train to run with more efficient and will also help to reduce the noise pollution.
The interior of Vande Bharat is designed to provide passengers more comfort. The seats are made of leather and are arranged in 3 + 2 seat configuration for ac chair car and 2 + 2 seat configuration for ac executive chair car. Plenty of legroom is provided and the seats are reclined to provide more comfortable ride.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------Amenities / Services provided in Vande Bharat Express:
Automatic doors: This train has automatic sliding doors that opens and closes at each station. This makes easy for passengers to enter and exit the train, and also helps to reduce risk of accidents.
Power outlets: Each seat has power outlet so that passengers can charge their devices on the train during journey.

This will help to increase the speed of trains, including the Vande Bharat Express. The train has been a major success, and the Indian government is planning to upgrade the train in the future.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------Future upgrades of Vande Bharat:
Increased speed: The government is planning to increase the speed of the Vande Bharat Express to 200 kmph. This will make the train the fastest train in India.
Improved safety features: The Indian government is planning to improve the safety features of the Vande Bharat Express. This includes installing a Train Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) and a Driverless Train Operation (DTO) system.
New amenities: The Indian government is planning to add new amenities to the Vande Bharat Express. This will include installing Wi-Fi, power outlets, and entertainment systems in all coaches.
Use of lighter materials: The use of lighter materials, such as aluminium, could make the train even faster and more fuel-efficient.
Installation of solar panels: This could help to reduce the train's reliance on fossil fuels.
Integration with other modes of transportation: The train could be integrated with other modes of transportation, such as buses and metro systems, to provide a memorable travel experience for passengers.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------The future of the Vande Bharat Express is bright. The train has the potential to revolutionize India's transportation sector and make it easier and more convenient for people to travel around the country.

My Innings as DDG at Army HQ
In the beginning of Mar 2002, while Op PARAKRAM was still in progress, I reported in Army HQ to take charge as Deputy Director General, DDG (Equipment Management) in MGO Branch. It was an exciting moment to enter the South Block for the first time in my career, for shouldering new responsibilities, in an entirely new role, in an entirely new Organisation. It took me almost a month to understand the magnitude of the tasks involving “Equipment Management”. I was in the core group for the purchase, procurement, stocking and release of all types of equipment, for all the Units & Formations of the Army. It entailed inventory management of diverse weapon systems & ammunition, a large variety of combat vehicles for specific requirements of each Arm/Service, complex communication equipment and a range of clothing including special clothing for high altitude terrain. Additionally, the  entire supply chain management had to be monitored to ensure that the right equipment, of the right quality & in the right quantity, reaches the right location, at the right time. The challenges were numerous with multiple solutions.
Soon on arrival in Delhi, I was allotted temporary accommodation in Army Battle Honours Mess. I got accustomed to the new lifestyle of carrying pack lunch & commuting by the Army Bus. The new office timings (9 AM to 5 PM) and observing a five day week were some other major  changes. It was quite a learning experience about new office procedures as well, since the MGO Branch had to interact with all the Command HQ  and the officials in the MOD (Ministry of Defence) & the OFB (Ordnance Factory Board) frequently. In the first week of Apr, I went to Bagrakote & returned to Delhi along with my mother, Sanjivani & Aditya. We shifted to temporary accommodation in Shankar Vihar complex, near the domestic Airport. Soon thereafter, Aditya got admission in Xth standard in Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan. Incidentally, our children looked forward to this process of change consequent to each posting, which certainly laid the foundation of their personality development.
In order to familiarise myself  with the functions of the Ordnance Depots & the Base Workshops, I visited Agra, Kanpur, Jabalpur & Pulgaon  in the first one month.  In addition, I got an opportunity to attend the Review Meeting at OFB, located at Kolkata. It enabled an update about  the progress of achievement of targets by various production agencies and the PSUs, as also the progress of procurement of equipment and ammunition ex- import. Thereafter, we had the six monthly Review Conference at MGO Branch, which was chaired by the MGO and attended by the DGOS,  DGEME and the MG Adm of each Command HQas also  the members of the OFB. We had to modify our plans and  allot the critical requirements to each  Command HQ.  It was always a race against time, specially for equipment management of the formations deployed on the LOC & the LAC. Necessary priority was also accorded  to formations deployed  in Counter Insurgency operations as also the units deployed on the Siachen Glacier. It was a great learning experience personally, facing entirely new challenges, which I had never visualised earlier.
In the end of May 2002, I felt elated to be selected as a member of MGO Branch  Delegation for an official visit to USA. Our schedule  included visits to several logistics establishments and the OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) involved in manufacture of defence equipment. We had just one month to plan our itinerary, prepare the agenda for discussions for each visit and finalise the  arrangements for travel & stay during our visit.  Finally, in the last week of Jun, we took off by Air India, on our maiden long duration flight. On arrival in New York, we were received by our Defence Attache, who escorted us thereafter during the entire Tour. Our schedule commenced with an impressive briefing at the Operations Support Command.
Tumblr media
Thereafter, we visited several Defence establishments and the OEMs on the West Coast and progressed in a sequence for completion of visits on the East Coast. The visit to the US Army Aviation Centre was really special. In fact every visit was unique and provided us an opportunity to visit local  tourist attractions as well. In the end, we came to New York and boarded the return flight, with memories of this professional experience. On return to Army HQ, we prepared the Delegation Report  and submitted it to the MOD, which was followed by a Presentation. I will always cherish this life time opportunity of a Defence Delegation.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, we were allotted permanent accommodation in Sardar Patel Marg complex, which was just adjacent to the Taj & Maurya Sheraton hotels. It was a coincidence that Ashvini & Nandini had come over to  spend their summer vacation. So, all the members of the family again contributed their expertise of packing, shifting and unpacking before settling down in our new Home!! We organised visits to some of the major tourist spots in Delhi on the week ends. In the end, we went for a short trip to Jaipur, popularly known as the Pink City. It was a refreshing break for all of us, before Ashvini & Nandini’s  departure for Pune.
Tumblr media
I continued my routine visits to various Ordnance Depots and the PSUs, on case by case basis. However, the most memorable visit was to the  Siachen Base Camp. I went there to acquaint myself urgently, about  the critical requirements of special clothing & equipment authorised to the Siachen Brigade. Initially, I went to Leh by the IAF Courier from Delhi  and completed the acclimatisation process at Leh. Subsequently, I travelled by road from Leh to Partapur, crossing enroute the famous Khardungla Pass located at 18,000 feet. This journey itself was a breathtaking experience literally. I had a night halt at the Brigade HQ at  Partapur before  proceeding ahead to Siachen Base Camp, which is located at 12,000 feet. I observed the rigorous training & acclimatisation being conducted at Siachen Battle School. It was a prerequisite before the induction of  Infantry Battalions & support elements onto the Siachen Glacier. I was also briefed about the logistic plans for supply & replenishment of various posts and methods of  casualty evacuation which were vital for operations in the challenging terrain and climatic conditions on the Glacier. I returned to Delhi after two weeks, with profound respect for all the Siachen Warriors.
Tumblr media
Next major event was the Army Commanders Conference in Oct. We had to compile the latest status of all types of equipment held by the formations, ascertain the essential requirements and prepare a plan for making up the deficiencies from the stocks held in the Ordnance Depots. In the Conference, all the Command HQ gave a review of their activities and projected their critical requirements. Similar Presentations were given by all the Branches & Directorates at the Army HQ. It was a great opportunity since I learnt about the methodology of integration of all operational and logistics  plans, with a long term perspective. The ultimate aim was to continually enhance the levels of operational preparedness, with higher priority for operations on the LOC & LAC as also the Counter Insurgency operations and the Siachen Glacier.
2003 commenced with the preparations for the Army Day Parade & the Republic Day events. It was a privilege as we availed the chance to witness the magnificent Republic Day Parade, from the main enclosure reserved for the Armed Forces. The latest equipment on display was a matter of pride not only for the Contingents but equally for the MGO Branch. All the celebrations culminated with a splendid Beating the Retreat ceremony at Vijay Chowk followed by the illumination of Rashtrapati  Bhavan and North & South Block.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is often said --- “Time & tide wait for none.” It proved to be true as  one year of my tenure was completed so quickly, enriched with so many professional experiences.  Aditya completed his Board Exams and while  the results were awaited, Ashvini & Nandini  joined us for another summer vacation. This time, we visited the remaining tourist attractions in Delhi on every weekend. The most enjoyable visit was to the famous Red Fort where we learnt about it’s historical significance by watching the Sound and Light Show.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thereafter, I arranged a short trip  to visit  Agra and Fatehpur Sikri. Our visit to the iconic Taj Mahal ---- one of the Seven Wonders of the World, was the most wonderful experience.
Tumblr media
By now, the results of the Board Exam were declared and Aditya was delighted with a score of  90%. It was perhaps destined that Aditya would pursue higher education in Pune as we decided to shift base. I took Annual Leave for a month and all of us went  to Pune. We completed the admission process in Fergusson College and rented accommodation in Kothrud. It enabled all the children to stay together and enjoy their college life. Sanjivani also stayed on in Pune and once again shouldered the responsibility as their coach, guide and mentor. I returned to Delhi and experienced an “Empty Nest” feeling for the first time!!
There was yet another important  assignment  when I was detailed as a representative of MGO Branch to witness the trials and evaluation of BPJs (Bullet Proof Jackets). I had to attend these trials in different locations and carry out the comparative analysis. All the subsequent procedures till the finalisation of the  contract by the MOD were an educative experience. We continued to obtain monthly feedback about the state of holdings of equipment from the Command HQ and check progress of target fixation from the OFB. This ensured  that the rate of supply was always faster than the rate of expenditure, specially in case of weapons and ammunition. The result of this proactive approach was higher state of combat readiness and enhanced user satisfaction at all levels. At the MGO Branch, it created a ripple effect of enthusiasm resulting in setting higher targets, stringent timelines and further improvement of the supply chain management.
In Jan 2004, Defence Expo was organised in Pragati Maidan. All of us at the MGO Branch attended this event since the exhibition showcased the latest trends and technological developments pertaining to military equipment. Thereafter, I got  another opportunity to witness the traditional Republic Day Parade and associated celebrations. Next month, I was delighted to be selected as a part of another Defence Delegation for visiting a few countries in Europe ----- Finland, Austria, Switzerland and Italy.  Our Delegation was specifically assigned the responsibility to examine the latest developments in Snow-clothing, Snowmobiles  and Mountaineering Equipment essential in Snow Bound area.  We left Delhi on 15 Mar 2004, and over the next two weeks visited several  OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) in Helsinki, Geneva, Berne, Zurich, Vienna, Rome and Venice.
We were shown the manufacturing process by each Firm and given a demonstration of the equipment in the Alps. We also got an opportunity to cross the Arctic Circle while travelling North of Helsinki. The Vatican City and the majestic Colosseum in Rome kept us spellbound. Finally, we went to Venice and enjoyed the enchanting Gondola rides. The Delegation was  privileged to have a meeting followed by dinner with our Ambassadors, both in Austria and Switzerland. On return to Delhi, we submitted the final report to the MOD. Thereafter, we gave a Presentation which was attended personally by Mr. George Fernandez (then Defence Minister). I will always cherish the memories of this fascinating experience of another Defence Delegation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just after completing two years and three months of my prestigious tenure in the South Block, I received my posting orders to proceed  to Ahmedabad. I was required to take charge as DDG NCC, Gujarat by mid Aug. I looked forward eagerly to shouldering this new appointment which would be quite different compared to all my previous  assignments. It entailed training of the NCC Cadets, appropriately called the process of  “Grooming Tomorrow’s Leaders”. As I finally departed after a traditional farewell from the MGO Branch, I had a feeling of tremendous accomplishment having fulfilled  most of the expectations of the  Formations. The dedication and support by my Team of Directors -----  Col Sanjay Kulkarni, Col KJ Singh, Col Saini and Col Ratnaparkhi deserve special compliments. I consider my innings at the Army HQ as a feather in my cap. It was time to shift from the dynamic Army HQ to the tranquil NCC Directorate, with an attitude of gratitude.

Role of the Wheelchair
The wheelchair is one among the foremost commonly used assistive devices to market mobility and enhance quality of life for people that have difficulties in walking (e.g. an individual with medulla spinalis injuries leading to quadriplegia or paraplegia, dystrophy ,etc).
MediMove Mobility leads in the design, manufacturing and marketing of innovative, high-quality mobility products and services we are wheel chair manufacturer in india, medical equipment suppliers in delhi, healthcare equipment manufacturers in india
Wheelchair mobility exposes opportunities for wheelchair users to review , work, engage in social activities and access services like healthcare.[1] additionally to providing mobility, an appropriate wheelchair benefits the physical health and quality of lifetime of the users by helping in reducing common problems like pressure sores, progression of deformities and improve respiration and digestion. To ensure effective mobility, wheelchair users need a wheelchair which inserts them correctly and meets their specific needs. However statistics show that about 10% of the worldwide population, i.e. about 650 million people, have disabilities and of those , some 10% require a wheelchair. it's thus estimated that about 1% of a complete population, or 10% of nation with a disability, need a wheelchair, i.e. about 65 million people worldwide. In addition, it had been estimated that in 2003, 20 million of these requiring a wheelchair for mobility didn't have one. There are indications that only a minority of these in need of wheelchairs have access to them, and of those only a few have access to an appropriate wheelchair.
Tumblr media
Appropriate Wheelchair
A wheelchair is acceptable when it meets the individual’s needs and environmental conditions; provides proper fit and postural support supported sound biomechanical principles; is safe and durable; is out there and may be accessed, maintained and sustained within the country at the foremost economical and affordable price. [3] An appropriate wheelchair can assist in opening up a replacement world for the user, from exclusion to inclusion, participation altogether societal activities, and sports and recreation, which all cause independence, better health and improved quality of life. Physical Needs Intended Use The ability to regulate or customize a wheelchair to satisfy the user’s physical needs will vary, counting on the sort of wheelchair. Wheelchairs should be available in a minimum of alittle range of sizes and permit some basic adjustments. Wheelchairs designed for temporary uses (e.g. to be utilized in a hospital to maneuver patients from one ward to another) aren't designed to supply the user with an in depth fit, postural support or pressure relief, while for long-term users, a wheelchair must fit well and supply good postural support and pressure relief. a variety of seat widths and depths, and therefore the possibility to regulate a minimum of the footrest and backrest height are important in ensuring that the wheelchair are often fitted correctly. Other common adjustments and options include cushion types, postural supports and an adjustable wheel position. Highly adjustable or individually modified wheelchairs are designed for long-term users with special postural needs. Such wheelchairs often have additional components added to assist support the user. Wheelchair designs vary to enable users to securely and effectively use their wheelchair within the environment during which they live and work. A wheelchair that's used primarily in rough outdoor environments must be robust, more stable and easier to propel over rough ground. A three-wheeled wheelchair that might be suited to outdoor use. as compared , a wheelchair that's used indoors on smooth surfaces must be easy to manoeuvre in small indoor spaces. Many users live and add a variety of settings, and a compromise is therefore often necessary like a strong wheelchair with a comparatively short wheelbase but large castor wheels. This wheelchair might be used both indoors and outdoors. Users got to be ready to get in and out of the wheelchair easily, to propel it efficiently and to repair it. Users may have to move their wheelchair, for instance during a bus or car. Different wheelchair designs leave wheelchairs to be made more compact in several ways. Some are cross-folding, while others have quick-release wheels and therefore the backrest folds forwards.
Benefits of an Appropriate Wheelchair
Mobility devices are appropriate for people that experience a good range of mobility difficulties as a results of a broad spectrum of health conditions and impairments, including amputation, arthritis, spastic paralysis , poliomyelitis, dystrophy , spinal-cord injury, rachischisis , stroke and also are relevant for older people that experience mobility difficulties. Assistive technologies like wheelchairs are shown that, when appropriate to the user and therefore the user’s environment, they need a big impact on the extent of independence and participation which individuals with disabilities are ready to achieve. This also reduces the burden of care and has been reported to scale back the general need for formal support services. [6] Wheelchair provision isn't only about the wheelchair, which is simply a product [7], rather it's about enabling people with disabilities to become mobile, remain healthy and participate fully in community life. we frequently take the power to maneuver in our home and community without any consideration , except for individuals with a disability with mobility impairments even the littlest step can prevent them from accessing all parts of their life. Being mobile enhances a person’s ability to find out , interact with others, earn a living and participate within the community. A wheelchair is that the catalyst to increased independence and social integration, but it's not an end in itself. Studies have shown that assistive technologies including wheelchairs, when appropriate to the user and therefore the user’s environment, have a big impact on the extent of participation which individuals with disabilities are ready to achieve and when provided through a supportive service are reported to scale back the time and physical burden for caregivers. [8][9] the utilization of mobility devices, especially , creates opportunities for education and work, and contributes to improved health and quality of life but can also have an impression on the prevention of falls, injuries, further impairments and premature death. Investment in provision of mobility devices can reduce health-care costs and economic vulnerability, and increase productivity and quality of life.
The benefits of using an appropriate wheelchair are:
MobilityAn active lifestyle has been proven to possess both physical and psychological state benefits with individuals participating in physical activity shown to possess a reduced risk of disorder , type II diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and a number of other cancers. An appropriate wheelchair provides the user the liberty to maneuver around, allowing the user to access day to day physical activity as they strong-arm conducting activities of daily living increasing overall physical activity levels and day to day mobility.[11] It also provides the best possible opportunity for independence and do the items they need to try to to , allowing indivduals to maneuver within their home more easily, provides increased comfort and a more active lifestyle.
Independence
Difficulty with ambulation, got to frequently rest on someone or hold onto their arm as they walk next to you, decreased balance fear of falling can cause individuals to become isolated from friends and family. A wheelchair that's functional, comfortable and may be propelled efficiently may result in increased levels of activity. Independent mobility and increased physical function can reduce dependence on others. Thus, wheelchair user's are often more independent and more on top of things of their own life. Individuals who experience the smallest amount discomfort when sitting are often more productive. Users who are ready to spend longer within the ir wheelchair will have more opportunities for participating in day-to-day life along side others in the household, greatly improving their quality of life.
Health
A wheelchair can improve the user's health in some ways . A wheelchair that's functional, comfortable and may be propelled efficiently may result in increased levels of physical activity, thus improving both physical and psychological state . A well fitting wheelchair with cushion combined with adequate user training can reduce common problems, like pressure sores, the progression of deformities or contractures, and other secondary conditions related to poor postures.[10] [12] Other benefits, like improved respiration and digestion, increased head, trunk and upper extremity control and overall stability, are often achieved with proper postural support. Maintenance of health is a crucial think about measuring quality of life. These factors combined serve to extend access to opportunities for education, employment and participation within the family and therefore the community.
Self Esteem & self-worth
Self-esteem is described as a general evaluation of one’s self- concept or sense of private worth and adequacy with high self-esteem linked to several positive health outcomes in persons with a disability including reduced depression and better life satisfaction and well-being. Wheelchairs, are shown to possess a profound influence on quality of life and participation. Wheelchair users may become more confident and have more self-worth once they have a wheelchair, often viewed as an extension of the users body, that matches them and which they will use well, therefore the chair’s weight and dimensions effect the person’s ability to barter through the house and within the community. Research has shown that wheelchair users with higher self-esteem displayed increased participation levels independent of gender, age and disability type.
Quality of Life
With maintenance of health there's increase access to opportunities for education, employment and participation within the family and therefore the community. These factors also contributes in increasing quality of lifetime of wheelchair user.
Access to Community Life
Access to community life including community participation, involving both being active in family and community life with engagement in typical roles and responsibilities in society plays a key role within the health and wellbeing of wheelchair users and has been shown to be a key think about preventing health deterioration in individuals with medulla spinalis injury. having the ability to access the community, move outside the house is vital for social participation and engagement and lots of positive health indicators also . Having an appropriate wheelchair improves access to the community and enables wheelchair users to be more involved in community life i.e. it enables the user to travel to the work or school, visit friends, attend places of worship or other community activities. Additionally, appropriate wheelchairs influence individual autonomy because they facilitate both mobility and activities of daily living both within the home and within the community.
Economy
A wheelchair often makes all the difference between being a passive receiver and a lively contributor. Economic benefits are realized when users are ready to access opportunities for education and employment. With a wheelchair, a private can earn a living and contribute to the family’s income and national revenue, whereas without a wheelchair that person may remain isolated and be a burden to the family and therefore the nation at large. Similarly, a wheelchair that's not durable are going to be costlier due to the necessity for frequent repairs, absence from work and eventual replacement of the wheelchair. Providing wheelchairs is less expensive if they last longer. it's also less expensive if users are involved in selecting their devices and if their long-term needs are considered.
For society, the financial benefits related to the supply of wheelchairs include reduced health care expenses, like those for treating pressure sores and correcting deformities. A study from a developing country reported that in 1997, 75% of these with medulla spinalis injuries admitted to hospital died within 18–24 months from secondary complications arising from their injuries. within the same place, the incidence of pressure sores decreased by 71% and repetitive tract infections fell by 61% within two years as a results of improvements in health care training and appropriate equipment, including good wheelchairs with cushions.
Challenges for Wheelchair Users
Financial Barriers
Some 80% of the people with disabilities within the world sleep in low-income countries. the bulk of them are poor and don't have access to basic services, including rehabilitation facilities. The International Labour Organisation reports that the unemployment rates of individuals with disabilities reach an estimated 80% or more in many developing countries. Government funding for the supply of a wheelchair is never available, leaving the bulk of users unable to buy a wheelchair themselves.
Physical Barriers
Majority of wheelchair users are poor, with inaccessible surroundings. They also live where road systems are poor, there's a scarcity of pavements, and therefore the climate and physical terrain are often extreme. In many contexts, public and personal buildings are difficult to access during a wheelchair. These physical barriers place additional requirements on the strength and sturdiness of wheelchairs. They also require that users exercise a high degree of skill if they're to be mobile.
Access to Services
In many developing countries, only 3% of individuals with disabilities who require rehabilitation services have access to them. consistent with a report of the United Nations Special Rapporteur, 62 countries haven't any national rehabilitation services available to people with disabilities. this suggests that a lot of wheelchair users are in danger of developing secondary complications and premature death that would be avoided with proper rehabilitation services.
Education and knowledge
Many users have difficulty in accessing relevant information, like on their own health conditions, prevention of secondary complications, available rehabilitation services and kinds of wheelchair available. For many, a wheelchair service could also be their first access to any sort of rehabilitation service. This places even more emphasis on the importance of user education.
Personal Choice
Users are rarely given the chance to settle on the foremost appropriate wheelchair. Often there's just one sort of wheelchair available (and often in just one or two sizes), which can not be suited to the user's physical needs, or practical in terms of the user's lifestyle or home or work environment. consistent with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, “States Parties shall take effective measures to make sure personal mobility with the best possible independence for persons with disabilities … by facilitating the private mobility of persons with disabilities within the manner and at the time of their choice, and at affordable cost”.
Stigma
Community, Government, and Non-Government ignorance and stigma in reference to people with a disability and wheelchair use including poor understanding of the principles of a top quality wheelchair, and reduced rights of the users to access their environment / community which include: Poor road designs that don't consider the requirements of wheelchair users Drivers not sensitive to the road needs of wheelchair users; Inaccessible buildings; Lack of easily accessible skilled service providers for wheelchair maintenance; Innaccessible and dear conveyance with limited space available for wheelchair users

Russia, UK move to ease coronavirus lockdowns: Live updates | News
Residents of Moscow will be allowed to go out for a walk – for the first time in more than two months – on Monday, while the UK is also preparing to relax its lockdown despite concerns among the government’s scientific advisory body.
Latin America’s death toll has now exceeded 50,000 with some one million cases reported across the region.
Most of the deaths have been in Brazil, where supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro appeared at a rally on Sunday against the country’s top court, which is investigating the right-wing leader.
More than 6.17 million cases of coronavirus have been confirmed around the world, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. Nearly 372,000 people have died, including more than 104,000 in the US. At least 2.64 million have recovered globally.
Here are the latest updates:
Monday, June 1
08:50 GMT – Philippines sees traffic jams as lockdown eased
Traffic jams and crowds of commuters returned to the Philippine capital, as the metropolis relaxed anti-virus measures in a high-stakes gamble to slowly reopen the economy while fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
Commuter trains, taxis, ride-sharing cars, special shuttle buses and motorcycles rumbled back on the road in metropolitan Manila but were only allowed to carry a fraction of their capacity as a safeguard.
Public transport was still limited by the relaxed rules and many commuters waited for hours to get a ride despite the government’s deployment of buses.

International flights with screening procedures will return to Athens and Greece’s second-largest city of Thessaloniki starting on June 15, and will be expanded to the rest of the country on July 1.

India's average doubling rate of new coronavirus cases has slowed to has 9.1 days, said the government on Saturday as it credited a nationwide lockdown for containing the disease.
The country recorded a 6 per cent growth in new cases from Friday 8 am to Saturday 8 am--the slowest uptick in daily new cases since crossing 100 cases, it said.
The 13th meeting of the high-level Group of Ministers (GoM) on Covid-19 was chaired by Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Saturday. The Group of Ministers (GoM) was briefed on state-wise details of dedicated Covid-19 hospitals, along with the adequacy of isolation beds and wards, PPE kits, N95 masks, drugs, ventilators and oxygen cylinders, among others, the health ministry said.
The GoM was informed that domestic manufacturers, which were identified earlier, have already started producing PPE kits and masks, and that an adequate quantity of the same was available.
"As on date, more than one lakh PPE kits and N95 masks are being manufactured every day in the country. There are, at present, 104 domestic manufacturers of PPE and three of N95 masks in the country," the ministry said in a statement.
ALSO READ: What is the second wave of Covid-19 and why should we be worried?
In addition, production of ventilators vide domestic manufacturers has also started and orders have been placed for more than 59,000 units through nine manufacturers, it added.
"The GoM was apprised that as of now, the death rate is around 3.1 per cent while the recovery rate is more than 20 per cent, which is comparatively better than most of the countries and may be taken as a positive effect of the lockdown in the country, along with the cluster management and containment strategy.
"The average doubling rate of the country is 9.1 days as of now," the ministry said.
The GoM was also informed that as of now, 5,062 people have been cured with a recovery rate of 20.66 per cent. Since Friday morning, an increase of 1,429 cases has been reported, the ministry said.
The death toll due to Covid-19 rose to 775 and the number of cases climbed to 24,506 in the country on Saturday, according to the ministry.
The GoM also reviewed the testing strategy and availability of testing kits across the country, along with the strategy for hotspots and cluster management.
It was briefed about the number of public and private laboratories presently testing for Covid-19, along with the number of tests that are being conducted every day through this network of laboratories.
A detailed presentation on the Covid-19 status in the country, along with the response and management of the disease, was made for the ministers.
The GoM had a detailed deliberation on the measures taken as on date by the Centre and various states and Union territories for prevention, containment and management of coronavirus and all the districts were asked to follow and further strengthen their contingency plans to combat Covid-19, the ministry said.
The GoM also deliberated on the various tasks assigned to several empowered committees and it was informed that around 92,000 NGOs, self-help groups (SHGs) and civil society organisations were working and contributing by providing food to migrant workers across the country.

There is presently data for more than 1.24 crore human resources on the dashboard and it is continuously being updated with the addition of new groups and sub-groups according to specialisation, the GoM was informed.
The dashboard contains state and district-wise information about the number of human resources available from each group, along with the contact details of the respective state and district nodal officers.
"These COVID warriors are being trained through online platforms such as the ministry of health website and the iGOT training portal," the statement said.
