State Ship Series: USS Arkansas
There have been five ships commissioned named after the state of Arkansas of the US Navy. The state was admitted into the United States on June 15, 1836.

USS Arkansas (1863), screw steamer, commissioned from 1863 to 1865. Originally named USS Tonawanda.
USS Arkansas (M/BM-7), Arkansas Class, Monitor, commissioned from 1902 to 1919. Renamed to USS Ozark, to free the name for BB-33.
USS Arkansas (BB-33), Wyoming Class, Battleship, commissioned from 1912 to 1946. Served in both World War I and II.
USS Arkansas (CGN-41), Virginia Class, Guided Missile Cruiser, commissioned from 1980 to 1998.
USS Arkansas (SSN-800), Virginia Class Block IV, Attack Submarine. Under construction.
