US Military Forces Getting Bigger on Purpose

Source: New York Times is a news company that takes on a broad range of topics from race relations in the United States to foreign affairs overseas. The publication company has been around since 1835 and since then has been giving news to the public.

In the Project Censored article titled ¨ÜS Military Forces Deployed in Seventy Percent of World´s Nations¨ the main point of the article is talking about how large the US military is compared to the rest of the world. It is also highlighted that we have men and women on the ground or deployed in over seventy percent of the world. While looking up some more information about the United States military I found out that there are 1,429,995 active military members. I also found out that our military is as big as the next 7 largest militaries combined and it is only going to get bigger. A policy bill was approved by the senate making all women of the age of 18 be eligible to sign up for the draft.

In the article by the New York Times they brought up very valid points about women´s rights and being able to sign up for the draft, for example Mitch McConnell a representative from Kentucky said ¨The idea that we should forcibly conscript young girls in combat to my mind makes little sense at all.¨In this article it was interesting to see why many conservatives did not agree with the bill. After finding out all this information it seems clear that United States wants to expand their military in anyway possible even getting rid of a bill to allow women to participate in the draft.
