Jitendra Kumar Tiwari: The Controversial Political Journey
Jitendra Kumar Tiwari, a prominent political figure from Asansol in West Bengal, has recently found himself embroiled in controversy once again. Formerly associated with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and now a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Tiwari's political trajectory has been marked by significant ups and downs.
Tumblr media
Tiwari's latest controversy stems from allegations made by the TMC, accusing him of meeting a National Investigation Agency (NIA) officer to conspire against TMC leaders in exchange for money. These claims have been vehemently denied by Tiwari and the BJP.
Born in Asansol, Tiwari began his political career in 2006 with the TMC, contesting his first Assembly election from Raniganj. Over the years, he held various positions within the TMC, including mayor of the Asansol Municipal Corporation and TMC MLA from Pandabeswar. Tiwari's fluency in Hindi proved advantageous in Asansol, a region with a significant Hindi-speaking population.
In 2021, Tiwari switched allegiance to the BJP amid internal disputes within the TMC. He contested the Assembly elections on a BJP ticket but faced defeat. Despite this setback, Tiwari remains a key figure in Asansol politics, especially considering the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Recent events have further intensified speculation around Tiwari's role in the BJP's electoral strategy for Asansol. With the BJP yet to announce its candidate for the seat, Tiwari's name is circulating as a potential contender due to his local roots and Hindi-speaking background.
Amidst the unfolding political drama, Tiwari has threatened to file a defamation suit against those making allegations against him. He remains steadfast in his commitment to the BJP's cause in Asansol, emphasizing the electorate's support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi regardless of the candidate.
The unfolding narrative surrounding Jitendra Kumar Tiwari underscores the complex dynamics of regional politics and the evolving landscape of West Bengal's political arena.

BJP Faces Exodus as Leaders Depart in West Bengal
While the BJP celebrates the influx of prominent leaders from other states, West Bengal presents a contrasting picture, with key figures leaving the party fold. In a surprising turn of events, a sitting MLA and MP have defected to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the past week, signaling a shift in political allegiances.
Tumblr media
The departure of leaders like Jhargram MP Kunar Hembram and Ranaghat Dakshin MLA Mukut Mani Adhikari comes as a blow to the BJP, especially in regions where it had made significant inroads. Hembram’s decision to step away from politics, citing a focus on social work, raises questions about the party’s prospects in tribal-dominated areas like Jangalmahal.
Hembram’s victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls was hailed as a breakthrough for the BJP in a region long considered a stronghold of the TMC. However, the party’s failure to secure victories in subsequent Assembly elections has raised doubts about its sustainability in the state.
Adhikari’s defection, particularly significant given his stronghold in the Matua community, underscores the complexities of West Bengal’s political landscape. The Matua community, with its sizable population and influence, has been a key battleground for the BJP and the TMC, especially in light of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).
The TMC’s assertion that the exodus from the BJP signifies its decline in Bengal is met with skepticism from the BJP camp. Despite internal rifts and public dissent, party spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya remains confident in the BJP’s prospects, emphasizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity and the unwavering support of the people.
Nevertheless, the defections and internal discord within the Bengal BJP present challenges as the state gears up for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The TMC, buoyed by recent gains and strategic acquisitions, sees an opportunity to capitalize on the disarray within its rival camp, particularly in North Bengal.
As the political landscape in West Bengal continues to evolve, the fate of the BJP hangs in the balance. With leadership transitions and shifting alliances shaping the narrative, all eyes are on the upcoming elections to gauge the trajectory of Bengal’s political future.

A Battleground of Women's Votes: TMC and BJP's Intense Campaign in Bengal Amid Sandeshkhali Episode
The focus on women's votes intensifies in Bengal as the TMC and BJP ramp up their efforts, with the recent Sandeshkhali incident heightening political tensions. Women voters are pivotal for both parties, as the BJP eyes national support and the TMC seeks to secure its dominance in West Bengal, particularly after its success in the 2021 Assembly polls.
Tumblr media
The Sandeshkhali controversy has become a strategic opportunity for the BJP to challenge the TMC's stronghold, targeting its female voter base. In the past, women, particularly Muslim and Mahila constituents, played a crucial role in securing Trinamool's victory against BJP's advances. However, the BJP aims to reverse this trend, aiming to prevent a repeat of the 2019 Lok Sabha performance where it secured 18 seats in Bengal.
During his recent visit to West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi capitalized on the Sandeshkhali issue, criticizing the TMC's handling of the situation and rallying support against its alleged misconduct. The TMC, on the other hand, faces challenges defending its reputation amid mounting criticism.
The BJP's announcement of Bhojpuri actor-singer Pawan Singh as its candidate for Asansol faced immediate backlash, highlighting tensions over cultural sensitivities. Meanwhile, TMC leaders point out discrepancies in BJP's candidate selection and question its commitment to women's empowerment.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee maintains an aggressive stance, planning a "padayatra" in Kolkata to bolster party morale and counter BJP's offensive.
As the Election Commission reviews poll preparations and central forces deploy, Bengal braces for a highly contested electoral battle. With women's votes at the forefront, both parties strategize to sway public opinion, making every move count in the run-up to the polls.

“We are committed to the INDIA bloc,” says TMC in West Bengal. Open to talk with top-brass
On Thursday, some insiders from Congress and Trinamool Congress party disclosed that the latter has refused to further negotiate the seat offering with the former for the upcoming West Bengal elections. For the uninitiated, The Trinamool Congress has already agreed to give two Lok Sabha seats to Congress in West Bengal. Now, they refuse to give any more but are open for discussion between the top-level leaders of the Congress party.
The seats offered by TMC are currently held by Congress Party which makes the deal tough to accept for the latter. A member of Congress’s alliance panel on Thursday accepted in a statement the same. The same member also told the press that TMC has asked for a seat in Meghalaya, arguing that it bagged 13.8% vote share in the last assembly polls, marginally higher than the Congress.
So far, the national alliance committee led by Congress veteran Mukul Wasnik has had meetings with Janata Dal (United), Rashtriya Janata Dal, Aam Aadmi Party, Shiv Sena (Uddhav), Nationalist Congress Party, and Samajwadi Party and held talks about the seats.
“Backed by data and the ground reality in Bengal, the TMC’s offer for two seats was communicated to the Congress three weeks ago. Therefore, at this stage, any other meeting with a committee will serve no purpose,” said a senior TMC lawmaker, who is involved in the party’s strategy.
From the TMC end, it is being signaled that Congress must accept that they are weak in West Bengal.
“In 39 of the 42 seats, the Congress got less than 4% votes. It won two seats and in another seat, it got less than 10% votes in 2019,” said the leader.
“The TMC has already conveyed our view to the top Congress leadership. It’s the same. We are committed to the INDIA bloc and pledge to work together to defeat the BJP. We sincerely wish the Congress leadership to acknowledge the limitations and weaknesses of the Bengal unit and allow us to lead the fight in the state,” said a second senior TMC leader, requesting anonymity.

While BJP candidates have been elected from the Dhanpur and Boxanagar assembly seats in Tripura and Bageswhar in Uttarakhand, the Opposition bloc has won in Jharkhand's Dumri, Puthupally in Kerala and Dhugpuri in West Bengal. The Samajwadi Party, which is a member of the INDIA alliance, is leading in Uttar Pradesh's Ghosi constituency.  Here are the latest updates: In Tripura, BJP's Tafajjal Hossain won the Boxanagar seat while the tribal-dominated Dhanpur was won by Bindu Debnath. In Uttarakhand's Bageswhar, after taking an early lead over the BJP's Parwati Dass, the Congress party's Basant Kumar fell behind. Ms Dass defeated Mr Kumar by over 2,400 votes. The bypoll was held after the death of four-time MLA and cabinet minister Chandan Ram Das in April. Delivering a big blow to the ruling CPI(M), Chandy Oommen of the Congress-UDF alliance won the Puthuppally by-election in Kerala by a margin of over 36,000 votes. Mr Ommen, son of late Congress stalwart Oommen Chandy, gained a clear edge in the first round and retained that position till the counting of votes was completed. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Bebi Devi has won the by-election to the Dumri assembly seat in Jharkhand's Giridih district and defeated All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) party nominee Yashoda Devi by over 17,000 votes.Dara Singh Chauhan, the sitting MLA from Ghosi assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh and a popular OBC leader, rejoined the BJP after resigning from the Samajwadi Party. His resignation necessitated a by-election in Ghosi, in which the Samajwadi Party's Sudhakar Singh is leading by over 24,000 votes as per latest trends.Over in West Bengal, two INDIA bloc parties - the Congress and the CPI(M) - joined forces to take on another Opposition ally, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), in the BJP-ruled Dhugpuri constituency. However, the TMC's Nirmal Chandra Roy prevailed and asserted the Mamata Banerjee-led party's control over the seat.Of the seven seats that went to polls, Dhanpur, Dhugpuri and Bageshwar were held by the BJP. Ghosi was held by the Samajwadi party while the seat in Jharkhand was held by the JMM. Tripura's Boxanagar seat and Kerala's Puthupally were with the CPM and the Congress, respectively. [ad_2]
