The jiang siblings childhood memory is so sad. We learn something about all three of them: that wei wuxian feels like a burden, like a stranger, to the point he doesn't dare to ask for better shoes; that jiang cheng is deeply aware that his father dislikes him and that he runs cost-benefit analysis before taking a choice; that jiang yanli, even though only two/three years older than them, has to take care of two kids.
