#also i think they can and do overlap lol #but i would definitely say PKDs books are sci fi even when there are somewhat magical elements #bc it is about the vibes and themes and overall focus #and uh. last fantasy book i recall reading was a rick riordan one #and i’d say his books that i’ve read are definitely fantasy even tho they do sometimes feature technology that doesn’t exist irl #or interdimensional travel in the magnus chase books #bc again it’s abt the focus and the vibes!! ok!!! #a book i’d say successfully straddles the two genres is rocannon’s world #bc ursula le guin was just having fun combining giant flying cats and royalty with spaceships and intergalactic organizations #but i think she gets away with it bc she presents both aspects of the worldbuilding as equals #meanwhile in sci fi that happens to have magic the magic is portrayed as being a part of this sci fi world #and vice versa with fantasy that has sci fi aspects. the sci fi parts are just part of the fantasy world. they’re included in it. #idk if i’m making sense im very tired! #anyway finished dr. bloodmoney by pkd a couple days ago and i adored it. highly recommend
