Writing Meme

Thank you to @glorfindel-of-imladris for tagging me!

1) How many works in progress do you currently have?

Ummmmm three, I think. One fanfic, one longer fiction piece, and one comic. Those are the big ones, anyway.

2) Do you/would you write fanfiction?

Yep! I think it’s great. There’s a certain magic to exploring something you love on your own terms. I think it’s important for me to delve deeper into the things I care about, especially through an existing work that I already have an emotional stake in.

3) Do you prefer paper books or ebooks?

Paper y’all. We are always in constant need of more bookshelves but having physical books around me is comforting. But! I’ll read fanfic online all the time.

4) When did you start writing?

I can’t remember. I think I’ve always been doodling around with it in some way or another.

5) Do you have someone you trust that you share your work with?

Sometimes? Depends on the work. For thinks I want to refine and polish I have a group of lovely people I share my work with, but for more personal or indulgent projects I’ll just keep them to myself.

6) Where is your favorite place to write?

I have a big green chair that I love to sit in and write. It was the first piece of furniture I bought when I moved, and it’s stayed faithfully with me since. My birdie George has her cage right next to it and my cat Rufus likes to curl up on the ottoman and it’s got nice flat arm rests to put snacks and it’s pretty much perfect.

7) Favorite childhood book?

Oh wow. I feel like we have to go by stages here-- I was a Redwall kid for most of elementary school until I hit 6th grade and discovered Lord of the Rings, which has remained a perennial favorite for me.

8) Writing for fun or publication?

Both!

9) Pen and paper or computer?

Computer for written work, paper for comics.

10) Have you ever taken any writing classes?

Yep! Graduated with a Bachelor’s in English (concentration in Creative Writing) and now I’m in grad school for Creative Writing as well. It’s all we talk about, lol.

11) What inspires you to write?

Generally speaking I feel almost haunted by my writing. Some kind of ghost follows me around, whether that’s the ghost of an emotion, or an idea, or a person, and it won’t let me go until I write a way to put that ghost to rest. Generally speaking that takes a long time. Some of my WIPs have been stewing around in my head for years now, gathering up what they need to finally come to peace with themselves. Once I start writing, i have to pick and choose my way through the ghost, like a maze, to get where the ghost needs to be. It’s not always a fun process, but I always feel really good after.

what’s your favourite song(s) to sing/hum? i normally just sing whatever song is in my head that day, but my favourite songs are spring day by bts, my page by nct dream and westlife lol i love westlife

what’s your favourite flower/tree/plant? roses are my favourite they smell so good and remind me of my granny, willow trees are pretty groovy too, and i like hyacinths, jasmine and honeysuckle .. basically just plants that smell good

favourite colours? blue and purple

what do you always doodle?

people, my daydreams and wishes and stuff

how do you take your coffee/tea? tea, white and strong, no sugar, and i looooove me some jasmine green tea

favourite candle scent? i have a yankee candle which is lemongrass and ginger smell, that’s pretty nice

sunrise or sunset? sunset definitely

what perfume do you wear? chloé by chloé, or this one i got that smells like roses

what’s your go-to dance move when you’re alone?

it’s a visual horror, i throw all kinds of shapes, kick the air, a bit of floor-work, maybe throw a dab in, especially if i’m dancing with me brother

 favourite quote?

i know some great, actually inspiring and meaningful quotes, but the best thing i’ve ever heard has to be “strong power thank you”

favourite self care routine(s)? skin routine at night, that’s the only one i do lmao

fuzzy socks or house slippers? how about both? :-))

what colour are your eyes? blue

what’s your favourite eye colour on others? brown, they’re kinda interesting to look at, or maybe green bc i don’t see many of those

favourite season? why? i like spring because it’s getting warmer and all the little lambs are being born and i go to the woods and there’s bluebells everywhere and it’s magical

cheek, neck, or nose kisses? literally can’t tell you from experience (lol help me i’m lonely), but i think i’d go for cheek kisses just bc it just looks and sounds so sweet and innocent innit?

what does your happy place look like? the woods is my happy place, i go there to cheer up and clear my mind

favourite breed of dog? i don’t like dogs at all they scare me, but my granny had a sheep dog she was ok i suppose. now if we were to change it to breed of chicken, it’d definitely have to be a cou cou, because of my beautiful lil birdy cous cous (rip <3)

do you ever want to be married? if so, what colours would you pick for your wedding theme? yes yes yes i want to get married!! i can’t wait! i’d probably take one out of my parents’ book and go for white and red

favourite weather? when it’s warm enough to go out in just a t shirt and feel the sun on your skin but you’re not sweating buckets or sticky ew

It has only been a little over a year since I started watching the show and joined the Black Sails fandom. I posted my first fanart exactly one year ago and it was the one above. Thus far I have drawn over 100 of them. I tried different mediums and styles, both for practice and for capturing the essence of the things I wanted to share. Some of them are great, some are silly, some are a bit out of character or not so good in other ways and some ended up surprising me in many ways. All are nonetheless very precious to me.

Under the read more there's a list of all my doodles thus far. Most of them feature Flint, Silver or both of them (there will be more of the other characters in the future, no worries). I have to admit I laughed quite a lot while going through these again. This is a really long post.

This is a list to show what sort of things there are and also for my own amusement and archiving purposes. The list is in chronological order, from first to the latest.

I tried to make this as concise as possible, but the tag/navigation page is here if you want to find something specific or don’t want to go through all this:

- Flint takes care of Silver's leg in the darkness of the captain's cabin.

- Some quick doodles of Flint, ballpoint pen

- Sharkdate cuties (really scrappy doodles of Silver gazing at munching Flint)

- Progress. A continuation to previous pic. Silver holding a cup, covered in blood and looking affectionally at Flint. Here’s a giffed version.

- Silver and Flint go for a night walk in winter and Flint finds the streetlights amusing. Modern Au, beanies and the BS logo

- “See any treasures, Capt'n?” Billy to Flint who is looking at something “shiny” with his spyglass.

- What if Silver stole that certain ponytail and made it into "a rabbit's foot"? And what if Flint had a medallion with pictures of the Hamiltons and later a lock of dark curls... I returned to this idea several times after this, lol. (still secretly wishing that anyone would write a ficlet about this).

- Overload of Blackbeard - several doodles of different adaptations of BB

- Shark hunting. Flint has the shark on his lap and Silver stands in front of him. Composition inspired by that infamous Wolwerine and Nightcrawler cover.

- A gif of Blackbeard with flowers in his beard (I share a birthday with Ray Stevenson, that's why).

- a quick sketch of displeased Jack

- The Red Lollipop. Flint eating candy which is distracting to Silver, inspired by this awesome post (x). Silver steals the sweets and peels some potatoes. Bonus: Randall and Betsy the Cat.

- Draw me like one of your quatermasters... Flint doodles sleeping Silver in the Captain's log.

- Random sketches of Silver and Flint. Learning to draw their faces

- Flint with a horrible mustache and Silver with a long braided beard. (I should redraw this someday..)

- Flint takes Silver for a ride (modern Au with motorcycles). The Walrus gang follows "the flagship"

- Black Sails moomin AU, part I (I had so much fun with these).

- Sweetness of touch. Flint gets his hair/head touched by his loved ones.

The Walrus crew acquires some chicken. A lot of them. And a parrot. - Billy and Joji are tending them - people playing board games and ignoring the chickens - a coc- I mean a rooster between Silver's legs - Silver holding some chickens and Flint meeting "the Captain Flint"

- Flint gets his ginger crown back...sort of

I find it endearing how this list ends with the balcony one. Like a parallel (ha!) to the first one, where Flint and Silver are having a private moment on board of a ship, although it is a different ship and at a different time. A year ago I had no idea where this all would lead me and how much I would learn and get to experience *pats my past-self in the back awkwardly and fondly*

Looking back at them (doodles) I feel both proud and slightly embarrassed of my enthusiasm. I have never done anything like this for any other fandom. I have never felt so much and had such an urge to engage in this sort of thing.

This show, its creators and crew, this fandom. Just something unbeliavable. I cannot find the words to say how much I appreciate you all. The brilliancy, the humour, the love in all kinds of forms. I am so glad I stumbled on this show (it was a gif or a fanvid about ep 2.05 that made me aware of this show, btw. I cannot remember it clearly anymore and for a moment I thought Crossbones was a pilot for Black Sails and almost missed everything, but that's a story for another time...)

Know this: I have loved sharing this experience (the show, the fandom) with you and I appreciate everything you have given to me or shared with me. I will treasure this. (I apologize not thanking more people individually, but this post would’ve never reached its end otherwise).
