i’d say i like them well enough i guess??? tbh since 1d i’ve tried not to get too into celebrity culture and invest myself in celebrity lives and letting them (or influencers!) affect me in any sort of major way media student things lmao. i’ll ofc always have a special lil place in my heart for them bc they gave us something really special and impactful with elu and s3. that’s not changing any time soon, no matter my feelings on either of the actors

tbh maxence lowkey seems like an asshole????? or at least a douchebag of some sort lmao his comments about blm were so fucking condescending and left the worst taste in my mouth. like dude you are a cishet white man!!!! going to a protest is the least you can do, esp in a global pandemic where many people who want to protest can’t due to health concerns. but as a cishet white man with a major platform he truly should have been doing wayyyyyy more. i did not see a single petition link anywhere on his page that weekend and have not any day since (if he’s posted resources and i’ve missed it, please feel free to send them my way). plus he has a Really Not Great track record on speaking about the lgbtq community despite taking on the role of eliott (i.e. saying he’d auditioned to play a transwoman and was upset he didn’t get it (my translation may be off here but i believe that was the gist of it), talking about how he was upset that people were saying that lgbtq roles should be played be lgbtq people (his feelings are ofc valid esp since eliott clearly means so much to him, but he’s centering himself in a conversation that is not about him and does not ask for his input), and probs more stuff i’m forgetting). it just seems like he doesn’t really learn???? and that whole redbubble fanart debacle was just gross oh god i couldn’t believe what he wrote on his insta story about that (like!!! think of the artist who had to see their work torn down like that by the celebrity they love!!!! awful awful awful)

i feel more positively towards axel tho. like yeah sometimes he comes off as a lil annoying but that’s totally my personality just not meshing with the persona he puts out on social media!!! he seems to genuinely have little interest in social media aside from his whole post-and-delete thing, which i’ve read is meant to mimic the feeling of live theatre????? which is actually such an interesting way of interacting with social media and subverting expectations of the platform and of the internet as a whole with information being permanent and constantly accessible oh gosh i’m getting too media student with this. his delay in talking about blm was iffy for sure, though. taking time to step away and learn is a great move, but with a platform as large as his, even just posting few links and stating that he’s taking the time to learn would’ve done so much more. also he continues to work with celine which is just a problematic brand and i want him as far away from hedi fucking slimane as possible alkfjadsk

please keep in mind that this is just my opinion!!!!! if you want to love them and support them to the ends of the earth then please do so!!!! don’t let this change that!!!! i still support them bc i really do have a soft spot in my heart for both of them due to s3, and i’m still gonna rb content of the both of them. stuff like this is super nuanced and there’s no one right way to feel.
