#also yes dark skin people can look amazing and beutiful in pink
as much as I love ballet, can we acknowledge that poc (mostly black and those with darker skin, but lighter skin pocs too) are discriminated and told that they can't wear what matches their skin tone bc "it has to be pink" and then get told they look unprofessional and their hair isn't "dress code" or crap? it's a problem, and we can't ignore that and act as if they don't exist. I mean, as someone who went to a studio where everyone but me was pretty well off, I know the isolation and embarrassment of looking "unpolished" in everyone's eyes and I can't dance when everyone but me is allowed to feel beautiful. I understand that price was an issue for my parents and I've made my peace with that, but until the ballet world starts to let poc have the same privileges of having tights and shoes that compliment your skin and look right and feeling beutiful in something made for you, I won't stop saying it how it is. the ballet world can be amazing but it can also be painfully ugly, and I know from experience how it crushes little girls and boy that just wanted to dance.
