Have you had a US wine made from the Touriga varietal? Well, I had not. We import and sell a 100% Touriga from the Dao region in Portugal and also sell several other blends that include Touriga. We didn’t know what to expect from this 2015 Touriga from DeWitt Vineyards in Amador. What we got was a fantastic wine - a fantastic expression of this grape at a price that, for California, is quite inexpensive ($24). Beautiful dark fruits balanced nicely with acid and medium tannin. Our good friends Kent and Robyn have been trying to get us to Casino Mine Ranch winery in Amador but best laid plans haven’t worked out. So if you can’t get the people to the winery, you get the winery to the people. Two delicious surprises came I’m courtesy of UPS: their Grenache Blanc and Grenache Noir. Both delicious and the l first time we’ve had both Grenache Blanc and Noir in the same meal. Renwood Winery has won two medals in the Decanter Asia Wine Awards 2013
We are proud to announce 2011 Renwood Premier Old Vine Zinfandel, Amador County has been awarded a Silver Medal and 2010 Renwood Clarion Red Wine, Amador County has been awarded a Bronze Medal in the Decanter Asia Wine Awards 2013.
The Decanter Asia Wine Awards, Asia’s largest wine competition, is open to wines from around the world and is judged by Asia's most prominent wine experts. More than 2,300 wines have entered this year’s inaugural event, and a total of 2,023 have been awarded a DAWA medal.
Co-chaired by Jeannie Cho Lee MW, the first Asian Master of Wine and a Contributing Editor to Decanter, and Steven Spurrier, Chairman of the Decanter World Wine Awards and Decanter’s Consultant Editor, the Decanter Asia Wine Awards aims to recognise quality wines and provide consumers across Asia with a trusted source of recommendations.
Judging took place in Hong Kong on 16 -19 September, with over 40 top wine experts from across Asia joining the judging panel. Wines were presented in flights of approximately 12 and were categorised according to region and sub-region of production, grape variety, wine style, wine colour and vintage.
“We would like to congratulate all winners in the Decanter Asia Wine Awards,” says Sarah Kemp, Decanter Publishing Director. “All wines were tasted blind and judged by a panel of Asia’s finest palates, and only those which represent outstanding quality are endorsed with a Decanter Asia Wine Award medal. I believe consumers will be able to discover new and exciting wines through our awards.”
