Just finished the first 2006 Death Note live action movie and like tbh kinda thought it was kinda mid
I did get hype when L showed up tho so here’s the image i made when yelling at my irls about it
#maybe this is just me being a hater but i didnt. like it
#like as an adaptation the things it added and changed werent interesting to me
#and Light feels like super nerfed
#like he isnt as cruel or pedantic or calculating really
#and like he doesnt seem as adept as a liar
#maybe the 2nd movie is better but the first one wasnt my favorite
#honestly because theyre adhering closer to the og i think thats why it doesnt work for me
#theres just not enough time imo to execute it properly and the things they changed didnt make it anymore like conscise
#like the musical was good because it hit all the beats executed them well and the things it did add aided in its format change
#the musical didnt feel hindered by it being a 2 and a half hour musical while this movie feels stiffled by its forced runtime
#my favorite part was the last scene with L just silently eating chips while staring at Light
#and then cut to credits with dani california by the red hot chili peppers
#take all this with some salt tho i write this immediately after finishing the movie
#maybe i just have to let it stew for a bit in my brain
#also (not a critique of the movie) but i did not realize Light and Shiori were dating till like the end of the movie
#like the scene in the art museum when light asks her to kiss just whoosh right over my head
#alsoalso haiiii this post has been in my drafts for like months woops still have not seen the 2nd movie
