i respect people who are like "its just a career fuck ur boss get paid ur job shouldn't be ur life ect" but unfortunately im in that small fraction of ppl who chose to pursue a career solely out of my passion for the field. and this is why academia desperately needs to be unionized

#☢️.txt #i get it academia is a profession where ppl see it as extremely privileged #and most ARE paid far better than the average person #however. academics are working class (very few own their labs and often not even their research) and often horrifically overworked #80 hour weeks arent seen as an abnormality! #esp in grad school and post doc! #and how do institutions get away with this? #the only people who go into academia are those who are intensely passionate about research #and most leftist academics put down their own needs bc they dont see themselves as working class #despite. not owning the rights to anything and having to beg others for the 'privilege' of research
