#and their teamwork is what makes it so natural for them to give Anya the security + comfort she needs

My favorite thing about Yor and Twilight is that both their jobs are designed for cut-throat perfection. There are no in-betweens, no excuses or second chances where assassination and espionage are concerned. Which is why seeing them both warm up to parenting is so wonderful.
Tumblr media
They both make their fair share of mistakes, whether it’s running out of patience or simply being at a loss on how to deal with a child of Anya’s age and temperament.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But at the end of the day, they end up being the two most important people in Anya’s life without even realizing it because they keep trying.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They acknowledge their flaws but more importantly they try to fix them and grow from them - for both Anya’s sake and each other’s.
Tumblr media
They know their circumstances are far from perfect. They know that they are far from perfect. But that doesn’t stop them from wanting a happy childhood for their daughter - and really, isn’t that the best any parent could ever want for their child?

meg’s glee au - the annual mashup competition
(see @delicadenza‘s high school glee club AU for more info on characters and their backgrounds and music styles/preferences, this is pretty relevant here)
Because it’s not a glee AU without a mashup competition to bring out the worst best in people—right?
Unlike the AU source material, where there’s a pretty even gender spread and a bare-minimum-sized club to boot, Yakov splits the group into three to ensure even-ish distribution of gender, experience, and specialised talents. The goal is to promote teamwork (because it hasn’t been that long since the club was established and Seung-gil, for instance, has only just joined as a singer—they still need to mesh as a group), some creativity (oodles of performance talent between the lot of them and Yakov wants to see what his students are like when they take full initiative for their performances), and to spur some healthy competition between the teams.
Naturally, this doesn’t go exactly according to plan.
Team Victor: Victor, Yuuri, Sara, Seung-gil and JJ
Team Victor has Issues because literally everyone except Seung-gil wants the solo (Team Victor more like Team Diva) and, of course, JJ has creative clashes with Victor
The thing is, Victor is solid when it comes to song choice but slightly rubbish at composition regarding mashing songs together effectively, and JJ has some decent ideas that would feasibly work but they all star him front and centre and Victor is a bit >_> about that
(there is probably some montage of the two of them singing through the hallways and in the classrooms about their rivalry, it may or may not also be a mashup but it also half-doesn’t exist because do those performances actually happen in reality?)
But in the end it's Yuuri and Sara who manage to find songs that can work, and Seung-gil, sick of JJ’s one-sided bickering and Victor’s haughty silences, decides very decisively who will sing what as his contribution to the team effort and makes sure that no one gets an outright take-over-the-whole-song solo because he’s bitter about having to put up with the Feud
They end up performing Love Me Like You Do/Style, and though rhythmically it works, and musically it suits that particular blend of styles, in the performance there’s some pretty evident discord even on stage between JJ and Victor—but at the same time, growing chemistry between Victor and Yuuri, who duet for a lot of the Love Me Like You Do section
The mood discord is further enhanced by Seung-gil, who sings all his backing vocals in this mashup of ~love~ and ~adoration~ with the biggest darkest scowl you ever did see
...Team Victor loses a lot of points for weird mood dissonace
Song: Love Me Like You Do/Style (Love Me Like You Do / Style - Ellie Goulding / Taylor Swift)
Team Georgi: Georgi, Yuri, Guang-Hong, Phichit, Mila and Otabek
Team Georgi's main problem is establishing a theme.
Georgi wants “heartbreak” because he saw Anya on a date with her new guy yesterday and spent three hours afterwards crying in his room (and his version of heartbreak is like, full on tragic Broadway—this may or may not be where the idea for his Broadway Night Mashup arises)... but no one else is convinced.
However, no one else has any solid ideas that might actually work both for a group to perform and with limited time and budget, and they’re struggling bc there is basically no intersection between their individual musical interests
Yuri and Otabek end up having a heart-to-heart about it—Yuri’s kind of desperate to beat Yuuri who probably beat him in some kind of sing-off a couple weeks back, but at the same time doesn’t want to win with some kind of sappy nicely sung love ballad thing. It’s a competition, they’re allowed to have some fun with it, and he wants more than anything to get his Paramore side on
This is, incidentally, the point where he confesses in a quiet voice to Otabek, sitting on the edge of the half-lit auditorium stage, that Paramore is his favourite band, and where he first admits that it really chafes at him that he never gets to perform stuff where he doesn’t need his classical training; that he just wants to let loose and sing the music he really loves sometimes
Otabek is pretty moved by this, especially because he knows Yuri Plisetsky is about as likely to bare his soul to anyone as pigs are to fly, so he decides to show some leadership spine and think outside the box so he can create something that will work
And in the end, he weighs up one tragic Broadway vs two perky pop vs one rock vs two RAAAHK and RAAAHK sort of wins (is his burgeoning attraction evident yet)
So they take on a compromise and go for the weirdo gothic bands which are theatrical enough to suit Georgi and have enough eyeliner and pseudo-teen angst lyrics to keep Guang-Hong and Yuri happy; it fits nicely into Otabek’s vocal range, and Mila and Phichit are content to do backing vocals and let their weirdo teammates express themselves, and between Phichit and Georgi everyone has fabulous makeup for the performance
(Georgi sings most of the This is Gospel chorus bits and thinks he’s well over Anya afterwards... he is ultimately Wrong but he does give a good performance)
And.
YURI WEARS HIS WELCOME TO THE MADNESS OUTFIT, I WROTE THIS YESTERDAY BEFORE THE VIDEO CAME OUT AND WHEN IT DID I NEARLY SCREAMED BECAUSE IT EXISTS AND IT FITS THIS PERFECTLY
Song: Sugar, This is Gospel (Fall Out Boy’s Sugar We’re Going Down vs This is Gospel by P!ATD)
And afterwards, Otabek and Yuri have a lockerside conversation which sort of focuses on their performance and how Otabek came through, but where it is abundantly clear that this is really about Them... they’re both just not quite sure what Them entails beyond being friends at this point
Cue Otabek’s faintly longing gaze at Yuri’s back through the crowded hallway as he dashes off to class and the bell rings in the background
Team Daft Punk: Emil, Leo, Michele, Christophe and Isabella
Mickey is aghast at having to compete opposite his sister and even more so at being on the same team as happy-go-lucky-electronica Emil
He’s weirded out from the start by Emil smiling brightly and bounding up to greet him at their first ideas meeting, Leo smiling as he asks how has Michele’s day been, Isabella smiling as JJ drops her off at the choir room with a kiss, Chris smiling because he just skipped sixth period to have a very satisfying chat with his mysterious long-distance boyfriend...
So he’s already on edge because how did he end up in the constantly smiling group why are they all so inexplicably happy, and while song ideas are being thrown around, Daft Punk comes up, and Leo and Emil start fixating on exactly how to mash some of the songs, how to do the mixing and instrumentation
But Michele just hears Daft Punk; and Daft Punk = electronica = NO and he storms out in a temper
Emil spends the entirety of the next day trying to track him down, and manages to corner him by sheer force of optimistic persistence, and Mickey blows up at him a bit
But Isabella’s walking by the door as Michele starts yelling, and she’s dealt with enough JJ to know that this needs to be diffused STAT
So she marches in there and breaks it up, and summons Chris and Leo for an emergency team meeting in ten minutes
And she single-handedly gets Michele to work through his issues regarding Daft Punk, and asks what he would prefer to do
“Not electronica.”
“Then we won’t do it electronica.”
"But we’d still kinda like to do a medley of their songs, ‘cause we did come up with a decent arrangement last night...”
“But,” Isabella says emphatically, “Michele gets final say on the style, and if we can’t make it work we’re changing the mashup, seven songs and those costumes we found at the thrift store or no.”
Emil, meanwhile, is sitting in his chair, being unusually quiet with his thinking face on, and suddenly pipes up with: “What about doing it a capella?”
Mickey likes the sound of a capella very much, and they have a deal
And as it turns out he has a decent ear for how to make a capella work and Emil kinda sorta defers to him on it which Michele thought would make him happy but actually he just finds it too weird to manage
The smileyness and in-your-face-ness have taken over his life and there is no escape
And once Mickey’s settled down from all the happy-cheerful-smileyness, their team actually works really well as a group
Emil beatboxes for the entire song, and although everyone sort of knew he could do it beforehand, there’s not a thread of doubt now that 1) he can do it and 2) they can utilise it
Isabella does not wear a blue wig a la the video, but she does absolutely kill her solo parts and JJ’s very vocal in his support from the audience
Leo gets to sing the “music’s got me feeling so free” and “hey! we’re gonna celebrate” bitss which is so apt
Although, if you look closely when they perform, you can see the faintest hint of discontent in Chris that he’s doing vocal bass and doesn’t really get to sing much... and vocal bass fades into the background enough that you almost don’t notice it except if it’s gone... *cue ominous foreshadowing camera shots amongst all the applause and in-team celebrating at the end of the performance before the cut to black*
Song: Daft Punk (the Pentatonix medley of: Technologic, One More Time, Get Lucky, Digital Love, Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, Television Rules the Nation, and Around the World)
(it’s the best mashup so somehow the fact that they’ve squeezed seven songs in there as opposed to the requisite two doesn’t even really matter in the end)
