Occupation: Assistant Healer General at Saint Mungo’s

Biography:
THE PAST
Edgar had a normal childhood, doing normal child-like things.  He was the first born of the Bones family, his sister Amelia, and brother Jacob both younger than him.  They were a middle-class pureblood family living in the suburbs of London.  He had a good life growing up, always having what he needed and then some.  His father worked at the Ministry, his mother a healer.  Ed was a goofball.  He was always climbing trees and jumping off of them (leading to many trips to St. Mungos to heal broken bones).  There was something about that rush that really made him feel alive.
Hogwarts was a roller coaster.  He was quickly sorted into Hufflepuff (the hat barely grazing his head before it shouted out his house) and made friends within his house easily.  Unfortunately, he was often made fun of because he had a bit of extra weight.  He wasn’t obese, but he wasn’t as fit or thin as many of his classmates.  He made up for it by being funny and goofing off.  If he could make a person laugh, then they wouldn’t notice or call attention to his weight.
That’s how he spent most of his days at Hogwarts.  While he was smart, his grades were never as good as they could have been.  He simply struggled with his focus.  Still, he managed to become a Prefect in his fifth year.  It was a role he did well in.  Upon graduation, he decided to go into healing like his mother.
THE FIRST LOVE
Not long after graduation, Edgar met a young man named Sam.  Sam became his running partner, then his personal trainer.  Edgar was determined to lose the weight, and Sam was there for the journey.  One drunken night, they kissed and soon were dating.  It was a secret relationship.  To most people, they were good friends that worked out together.  Behind the scenes, Ed was madly in love.  He was so in love that he didn’t see the abusive tendencies of the man until it became physical.
Sam was always pushing him to do better.  Edgar took it as encouraging.  Sam wanted him happy and healthy.  Truth be told, Edgar was happier in those first few months of the relationship than he felt in a long time.
Then, Sam turned on him.  Edgar got extremely sick and found himself unable to get out of bed.  It started with name calling, telling him that he would end up as that fat slob again if he didn’t get out of bed.  The words hurt Ed more than he let on.  Once Edgar felt better, it only seemed to get worse.  When he tried to break off the relationship, Sam got angry and punched him.  This wasn’t the man he loved.  Did Sam ever love him?  He didn’t understand.
He spent that night with Moody.  His best friend was livid.  He never saw Sam after that.
THE TRUE LOVE?
Ed spent the next few years without a relationship.  He didn’t need one.  Anytime he got close to one, he would erase that person from his life (easy to do when he was only spending that sort of time with muggles).  He worked his ass off at his career and quickly climbed the ladder at St. Mungos.
Then he met Jocelyn.  There was something different about her.  She was an American witch studying magical healing at St. Mungos.  The pair had so much in common and it was only a matter of time until they began seriously dating.
They dated for nine months before Edgar went out and bought the engagement ring.  He spent far too much money on it, but she was worth it.  He wanted to settle down (which was a terrifying thought for him).  He wanted to start a family with her.  She was the one.
 THE ATTACK
No one knew when exactly Edgar was taken.  Even he was a bit fuzzy on that.  He remembered working a double (nearly a full twenty four hours) and in his exhaustion, made a wrong turn after exiting Mungos.  A spell hit him in the back and he lost consciousness.  He woke up somewhere dark and dank.  His entire body hurt, but it was only the beginning.  For three and a half days, the man was tormented and tortured.  The man wore a mask and Edgar didn’t recognize his voice.  He lost track of time.  All he knew was pain until he knew nothing more.
It was Moody that came upon Edgar first.  After spending three sleepless days searching for the healer, he was finally found in a basement in the outskirts of London.  The man was mentally broken.  He screamed when they moved him, but other than that, there was no sign of life in his eyes.  Edgar Bones was gone.
THE HEALING
It took him two and a half weeks before he finally escaped his own mind.  He had no recollection of the attack.  He had no recollection of the torture.  He knew that he was still in pain.  He knew that something bad must’ve happened with the way that Moody, Amelia and Jocelyn were acting.  When Moody finally told him what happened, Edgar got sick.  In the days that followed, he learned that his fate might have been worse than death.  His mind would blank out on him; he would have absence seizures; his legs wouldn’t hold his weight; he’d have magical outbursts that he couldn’t control, especially when his emotions got the better of him.
After a week of therapy, Jocelyn left him.  She told him that she couldn’t take seeing him like this and ultimately that he was no longer the man she fell in love with.  Edgar spiraled into a deeper depression that no one seemed able to pull him out of.  He spent the next two months at St. Mungos, a patient of his own hospital.  He got stronger, he got better at controlling his emotions.  He healed.  But he didn’t heal enough.   His hands still shook, his magic still wouldn’t cooperate.  There was permanent neurological damage that no amount of magic or therapy could heal.  He was broken.
Without much fanfare, he took a seven month trip around Asia.  He knew that they had different healing practices there.  He also knew that he needed to escape England.  He needed to get out of that place with so many reminders of what happened to him.  He needed to exert some kind of freedom.  He toured Thailand, China, India and Japan.  Each place had their own form of the healing arts.  Edgar learned a great deal of information that he knew would be helpful in his own work.
It was in Japan that the tremors quelled.  There was a healer, Sensei Ito that not only taught him to meditate, but eventually helped him control the aspects of his life he was told he’d never be in control of again.  It was the breakthrough that Ed needed and he knew he could go home.
THE PRESENT
Ed went back to his position as Chief Healer at St. Mungos, much to the disliking of some of his colleagues.  He was in more of a supervisory role now, rather than that of a hands-on healer.  Still, he had certain patients that would only see him, so he didn’t completely give up his passion.  He had yet to find another significant other, not particularly looking for one in that moment.  He would go to bars and have casual sex with whomever he found attractive that evening.  There were no strings attached.  He had no commitments.   At the same time, despite his multitude of friends, he is lonely.  Something is missing and he didn’t know what.
