This was a weird one akjfhgds @lurking-loaf and I couldn't decide what to do for this weekend's magma session so we ended up drawing each other A Shape (tm) to work off of! Which means any formal complaints regarding this piece can be forwarded to him lol /silly

And they were boyfriends...?

,
He’d done it. He had finally gotten a glimpse into Henrik’s personality past the usual closed-off workaholic persona Henrik wanted him to see, and only that, but now Jackie was determined to make his feelings known.
Henrik was gay, queer, whatever the word was to describe someone not-straight these days, and Jackie had a secret crush, a crush that would be secret no longer.
Jackie woke up early the next morning in a, “fuck the rules,” kind of mood.
And, okay, maybe that was a little bit dangerous considering Henrik was always really big on the, “fuck around and find out,” way of life, but, hey, he had given Jackie permission to enter his bedroom and he’d tried his best to not look around! The flag had just so happened to be there…
He sat on his bed and stared at his own rainbow flag. It was time to listen and confront. He could do that, right? Jackie wasn’t shy or anything, just maybe a little bit scared of being kicked out...? That seemed logical.
No. Whatever had happened last night wasn’t his fault and he couldn’t be blamed and—
“Stupid!” Jackie heard the yell from down the hall, a sign that Henrik was finally awake. He’d sure been exhausted coming home to nearly pass out on the floor like that, but to then sleep this long, too?
…maybe checking on him without bringing up his crush was a better idea?
He heard a sigh, closer now, and decided to investigate. He peeled his door open, the squeak he meant to fix a while ago giving him away. Henrik turned to him before he finished walking down the hall, which surprised Jackie. He still looked tired as all hell, but he smiled. Henrik never smiled at him.
“Hi. I was about to make breakfast, would you like some?” What.
Jackie blinked. “I mean if you’re offering, sure, thanks.”
Henrik hummed, continuing to the kitchen and fishing out the things he needed: a carton of eggs Jackie happened to know this would be the last of, some leftover ham, and a loaf of thick rye bread.
“How would you like your eggs?”
“Scrambled is great, thanks,” he muttered, cautiously approaching the table like Henrik was going to shoo him away any second. When he didn’t, Jackie sat. “So, how are you feeling this morning?”
“I am fine," Henrik confirmed. "That won’t have been the first or last time someone had to help me to my room after a rough shift. Really, though, I am fine.”
Jackie picked at his fingers. Why was he so nervous? Henrik was actually acting like he wanted anything to do with him for once, he should be embracing the opportunity! He took a breath. "That's good."
The sound of the eggs being cracked into the pan and sizzling over the heat took over the kitchen.
"I know you have something on your mind and," he sighed, "I know I have not made myself to be the most welcoming man, but please talk. What is it?"
For a second, Jackie thought he was imagining this. "Sorry?" Henrik turned and gave him a kind but expectant look over the tops of his glasses. Okay, not imagining it. "Promise me you won't be mad."
"Of course, not. Go on."
Jackie's mind was screaming at him but he ignored it. "There was something I wanted to discuss, actually. When I was in your room... I noticed something."
"Something," Henrik repeated slowly, tapping the spatula against his chin. "Would it be my diplomas? My gross amount of sports trophies from childhood? I didn't leave my underwear out, did I?"
That got a laugh. "You have a sense of humour?" Jackie said before thinking. His eyes widened as Henrik grinned over at him. "I am so sorry."
Henrik turned back to the stove. "You are two years younger than me if I remember right. We are both adults and I think I could have deduced long ago the feelings you have for me."
Jackie felt his face heat up and he leaned onto the table, thinking, "Shit, I got caught-"
"And I think I was scared," Henrik continued, Jackie's ears perking up. He didn't look away from his cooking as Jackie sat at the table. "I have had many a crush and it is nothing to shame. I do not know why the crush chose me when I have not been so kind, but I understand it's not controlled."
"Henrik, I... how did you know?" That was the real question.
"That's a good question. I presume I just have enough experience with my own crushes. I have a tendency to run off before the other party can notice, and pretend I'm busy just to be near them."
Jackie's eyebrows rose and Henrik turned to him slowly, the plate of eggs and ham and toast in his hand. He hadn't even noticed Henrik finished making it.
"Thank you."
"Mhm."
It remained quiet as Jackie ate whilst Henrik cooked his sunny-side-up eggs. Everything smelled and tasted delicious, and Henrik added spices to everything that made it even better.
The food in his system helped him to focus and suddenly something hit him, making him choke on his bite.
"You have a crush on me, too, don't you?"
Henrik had the audacity to laugh and Jackie flushed hard. Henrik caught his breath.
"Yes. It took me a while to accept it and I didn't know how to tell you because I felt like I'd been so harsh with my rules, it would be wrong to break them myself, you know?"
The blush only increased. "That makes sense. I guess I also wasn't very honest about things. I could never be mad for it..."
"So, we should talk more is what I'm hearing," Henrik laughed again. "Perhaps things can settle now."
"I'd like that."
