Diary Entry #18

Dear Diary,

Once again I find myself apologizing to these pages for it has been some time since I have placed quill tip to parchment to reflect on what has been taking place in my life. To say it has been on the more hectic side of matters might be an undertone! Nonetheless I breath, I am here and for that I am eternally grateful since it means a new opportunity to walk my path and experience life itself.

The journey with the pirate Asande Stormborn was very eventful! I learned so much on the island with the art of dancing. Yes, I know! I had been taking dancing lessons when I was but a child but this type of dancing is something new! It is engaging and beautiful yet has a precision of danger to it at the same time. Honestly I find it difficult to explain but I am enchanted all the same! It involved me learning to utilize these circular bladed weapons called chakram. I’m still learning my way about them but think my proficiency is getting better. I unfortunately do not have any other to learn this from unless I find those who shared the movements with me on the island or the Asande who knows more than I from her visits there. I will learn on my own and research! If learning is involved then I am the one to find out all I can! 

I know. This makes you wonder what of the katana and the family sword that I carry. I still have the sword and still train and learn my lessons from Master. It’s just that every time I unsheathed that blade for combat I have taken a life. On the ship we were attacked by pirates who apparently were after Asande. I tried to inflict injuries without threatening the persons ability to open their eyes another day but it became more dangerous to continue down that path for others around me and myself.

How does one wash the blood from their hands? How does one justify taking the life of another and stealing them the chance to change their path? I don’t know the answers to these questions and I am hesitant to ask Master or even mother. After the fight my hand would seem to shake when just reaching for the katana! I just don’t know. How many more lives will I have to take if I wield it freely? How much more blood will run along it’s edges? Even my own blood was spilled that day so heavily I lost my grip on the reality around me and found myself abed. Does wielding the family sword curse me to this life? Does it curse me to the chance that one day I will not open my eyes again? I don’t know but I admit it. I am scared, Diary. Scared of what this could do to me and the idea of taking even more lives.

Other than that I have come to the terms that I must find a way move on with my life. My talks with Asande helped in this regard and a lot of meditation. I will always be grateful for what Vee brought into my world. My life. She taught me I could love and I am worth being loved. How can I forsake such an important lesson? Isn’t walking the paths of life meant to be exactly this? Learning through the good and the bad? That is what my parents taught me and I am experiencing life. I wanted this so I must walk it. So, yes, an echo of pain exists but I am thankful. I thankful my path crossed her and the others who had shown an interest in learning the shape of my spirit and possibly my heart. Each and every one of them taught me something whether for good or ill and I will not forsake those lessons. I would be a fool to do so! 

So thank you to those who crossed my path but I am finding my way. My path. My life. My spirit. My heart. I refuse to give in so simply in pursuit of my happiness. I have business in Ul’dah so maybe I’ll actually visit the Quicksand for a change. I probably should bring an extra pair of shoes since you never know what you’ll step in when you’re there!

The Harbinger

The harbingers have been through fire. You've got the scars to show for it. Some people say harbingers are jaded- scary, even, to people who don't understand that the harbinger has seen the edge of the world and survived it. But being the harbinger means you're cursed to watch younger, brighter eyes fall for the same traps you did. Trying to help isn't enough for you; you know what they're getting themselves into, and you want to protect them the way no one ever protected you, so why won't they just listen? It's frustrating. It's terrifying. No one should have to live through what you did, and I hope you know that you can't protect everyone but it's damn noble of you to try. It's not your job to save the world but i hope you know you've already made a difference to everyone who has taken your words to heart.
