I'm convinced that many Doctor Who fans on Tumblr don't watch the actual show, they only consume via Tumblr posts. They get all their knowledge of it from gifsets and text posts so when they talk about it themselves it sounds like a distorted, often completely inaccurate version of the show because their idea of the the show isn't based on the actual text, but someone else's reading of the text. I don't think this makes people fake fans, just that they are basically consuming the show through a filter rather than directly.
