Things are starting to look super cosy in Peggy. We chose a red varnish for the interior and are mixing up the pales and reds for a quirky camper feel. We can't wait to take her down to Patagonia when we come back! MORE INFO VAN CEILING After yesterdays reel we had loads of questions for more pictures. Here you go guys 👍❤️ To get this effect for your van conversion ceiling is actually not as hard as it looks. 1. Start with a 5mm ply sheet cut to fit the ceiling. 2. Cut strips of 9mm ply at 100mm. 3. Prime and paint everything. 4. Screw and glue the strips to the back board through the back so you can’t see the screws. 5. Lift everything up in place and fix to the roof batterns. All pretty easy. CURTAINS… HOW TO? ———— When we were building Jules we took lots of ideas from @safe.and.sonder.vans They were great and gave us loads of info. We just loved the fabric they had for some of they’re curtains…. So we ordered some from 🇺🇸!! These are a really easy curtain style to make as you just need a lefty of wood to hold top amd a length sewn into bottom to weight them then we order so@e leather strips from @ebay_uk and punched in some press studs and hey presto …. CURTAINS!! *Van cushions 🚐 To keep the costs down we decided to cover the cushions in Jules ourselves. We got a roll end @lauraashleyuk fabric off eBay really cheap and borrowed a sewing machine off @hutchinson_melanie (she makes amazing gift ducks) and off we went. We used 12mm ply base and 2nd hand foam cushions off Facebook and then just wrap the seat like a parcel and staple. New shoes for old! We debated for ages about spraying up the old wheels or getting new ones and decided for new in the end. We went for Michelin Agilis CrossClimate 225/65 R16 112/110R tyres so the speedo was the same S the old 15” and ALUTEC GRIP TRANSPORTER 16x6.5 5x118 alloys making sure they were load rated. 🔋Electrics! This was the part we were most anxious about but to be honest with help and planning from @roamervans we had it under control. When we researched it all there was lots of conflicting info about the consumer units so we decided to go with the @victron_energy EasyPlus to keep the consumer unit, charger and inverter all in one box. The fancy bits. We use a small amount of 12mm oak to make the colour pop in the van. We had a gap between the bed and back doors so we filled it with some handy cupboards/storage areas that are always a bonus in the van. 2 or 4 ring? Cooking and cooking easily is important to us in the van. We decided we wanted 4 rings not two in the van so cooking is easier. This Sia domestic hob works a treat and is easily converted to LPG. Add in the @thetfordeurope oven and meals just got a whole lot easier. The Truma 4e With the weather turning or heading to colder locations we’re so glad we went with the @trumauk. Giving us heating via gas or electric AND hot water is just what we were after. Top cupboards 🔨🪚🚐 Once you have your angles for the roof sorted these cupboards are pretty simple. As always with the van nothing is square or level so I always take a square angle off the floor and then eye it from there as it always tends to look odd because the van gets wider as you go back along the wall. All good fun. Let’s talk drawers🪚🔨🚐 We probably get as many questions about drawers and how we made them as we do for the electrics. I believe it’s often better not to over think something and keep it as simple as possible. We used 12mm ply for the drawers themselves and 12mm ply cut to the size of the front and them got the shaker effect on the fronts by gluing and pinning 6mm softwood strips around the edge of the fronts. That’s it …. Then just @zinsser_uk base coat and a coloured topcoat with a lacquer spray on top of that. We also used runners with rubber stops to provide resistance so they don’t fly open when driving. Kitchen carcasses.🔨🪚 We decided to build all of ours ourselves. We built them in place so as to save on weight and to allow access for all the heating and electrics that re passing behind them. Turned out pretty well I think. 💦💦💦Water💦💦💦 Our water system is pretty standard to a lot of others. We went for 70l clean water inside the van as we didn’t want to have any freezing issues with it being outside as it also feeds the shower and water boiler. It all seems to work pretty well and is easily filled up via the back door. The waste water is underneath so all pretty simple.
