I have a very important scientific inquiry

Are vulcans mammals? Can we even classify extraterrestrial species according to our traditional taxonomy? I assume most would agree they're vertebrates, but vertebrata is a specific word implying it evolved from chordates which ultimately evolved from Earth's universal common ancestor, right? So would we need a whole new tree for each planet with life? Would we use the same terms, like chordate and vertebrate and mammal? Sentient species might have their own words for taxonomy, but what about planets without sentient life? How would we classify them?
