Morpho Knight is finally here! Wahoo!!! Now I can ramble about her and finish up the general notes I have for the Galactic Crisis AU….

sorry this took me almost a year to finally get done……

If you want more context, refer to Galacta and Kirby’s old refs! I’m gonna briefly summarise the setting here in case you don’t feel like reading all that because boy howdy is it a lot…and thats the super condensed version. Anyway!

To recap.

-The AU takes place during the time of the Ancients. There are two factions of ancients who used to be one group, but split into two factions: the Halcandrans and Jambandrans.

-More specifically, this AU takes place during a sort of cold war between the two factions. The Halcandrans are building new technologies to possibly use in war such as Novas, while the Jambandrans are creating magical items like the Master Crown to possibly use in this hypothetical war.

-One of the main reasons for this arms race is because of a series of mysterious disasters that each side blames the other for.

I think that’s the main gist of the setting….so let me go onto Morpho’s story…this should hopefully explain a lot more of what was happening in Galacta and Kirby’s references.

-So here’s the big reveal that’ll add a lot of context to the story….Morpho’s a reaper!

Why exactly? Well

-Before her death, Morpho was an insanely powerful knight. She was ferocious and feared by her enemies and revered by her followers. She was a force of massive destruction and she loved it.

-She lived a life of glory before her untimely demise…since she was so powerful, she was immediately enlisted in the army of Reapers.

-For some context (I’m still working out how they work so this may be a little vague) the Reapers in this AU are a collection of souls who were powerful warriors in life. They work to maintain balance in between the living and the dead, and to harvest souls who will then be appropriately placed. The Reapers themselves are like the army of the dead.

-Well, the Reapers existed pretty normally for a bit, just harvesting who they had to and not interfering with the living. That was, however, until fears of a massive galactic war started when the Ancients divided into two factions.

-Cue the start of the mysterious disasters. These disasters were actually the work of the Reapers, who were harvesting more souls than were being given to them by the living in preparation for this massive war, in which they would need more workers to help sort the massive amount of souls that could be lost in this war.

-This is, quite obviously, insanely hypocritical. But the organization behind the Reapers is….well…we may come back to this later while I develop them more but just know that this organization is pretty damn corrupt.

-Back to Morpho specifically. Since she had a reputation for being so brutal and ruthless in her living days, the powers behind the Reapers thought she would be perfect for their new job of harvesting souls before they were supposed to be sent into the afterlife.

-And so, that’s what she did. However, instead of living a life of glory like before, Morpho was horrified by what she saw, and what she was forced to do. When she was alive, she fought great battle that always had a purpose. But this, she understood as mindless slaughter. And then that made her seriously reflect on her previous life….cue an existential crisis.

-Her first mission was to a small village on Halcandra….and if you’ve kept up with the lore, you may very well know what happens from here….

-This was Galacta Knight’s village….he returns from his knighting ceremony just in time to see Morpho shocked and horrified at what she had just done.

-This is where the two start to bond…Morpho feels immensely guilty after Galacta breaks down in front of her, and she comforts him.

-I just. Want to point out how similar their situations were….both of them were recently appointed to a new position, and soon after experienced a major crisis of faith. They’re able to seriously connect and bond through this, which is why they both latch onto each other so quickly.

-Morpho explains that she’s a Reaper and had to take the souls of the people here after a “natural disaster” wiped out the village. Before she’s whisked away back into the underworld, she tells Galacta Knight where her next assignment is supposed to be, and to meet her there.

-If you remember from Galacta’s old ref sheet, this is why the two are forced to meet at the sites of tragedies. Morpho intentionally asks to reap Jambandran souls so that Galacta won’t be so upset.

-After seeing this rising star in the Halcandran army at the sites of the mysterious disasters, the Jambandrans begin to suspect that Galacta is some sort of super weapon, and is the cause of disasters.

-Oh, I should mention here that Reapers ARE NOT SUPPOSED to interact with the living! Morpho can disguise herself as butterflies to avoid detection. Also she can summon her butterfly swords from the underworld and they appear through a flock of glowing butterflies….which is also how she manifests and disappears….I just thought that would be fun to mention….

-Anyway! This fear of Galacta Knight leads to a retaliation from the Jambandrans in the form of the Jamba Heart. Halcandran intelligence learns of this Jambandran super weapon, and, unaware of their perception of Galacta (who, at this point has risen the ranks to Halcandra’s most respected knight), send him and a crew of knights to seal the Jamba Heart. Things do not go well.

-Galacta’s entire squad is wiped out, which summons Morpho (she always keeps an eye on Galacta from the underworld….). She holds off the Jambandran troops defending the heart while Galacta is thrust right into it…

-After making contact with the Jambe Heart and manifesting Kirby (see Kirby’s ref for more elaboration on this), the heart is sealed, Morpho is called back to the underworld, and Galacta inadvertently starts a war.

Here’s where things get nuts.

-Halcandra sending Galacta Knight, the supposed super weapon against Jambandra, to take down the Jamba Heart, was seen as a declaration of war. The Halcandrans blame Galacta Knight for the start of the war, and send troops to find him. Morpho is able to warn him of this before she is suddenly called back to the underworld.

-Morpho’s interference with the living world is suddenly uncovered, as she was not assigned to reap the souls of those who died in the Jamba Heart incident.

-Before she can be placed in like. Hell jail. She flees from the underworld to be with Galacta Knight.

-So. Now the two of them and their strange….child…. are on the run from Halcandra, Jambandra, and the forces of the Underworld.

-Somehow, they manage to escape detection for about 2 years.

-During these 2 years, Galacta’s possession from the Jamba Heart worsens despite Kirby’s influence.

-A brief note about Galacta’s possession, since its still based on his wish for a peaceful universe and for a family, it twists this into an obsession with protecting them, which sometimes manifests in the slaughtering of those after the trio.

-Morpho and Galacta know that something is happening to him (I mean…his eyes literally change color of course something is wrong with him), so they sneak around Jambandran ruins to try and glean any information about the Jamba Heart.

-Eventually, Galacta’s rampages get too much for Morpho and she has to take a break for a bit. It’s really hard for her to see her husband going down an even worst path than the one she had in her life, and the one she immensely regrets.

-Unfortunately. Now that she’s away from Galacta and Kirby, Morpho is ambushed by Reapers and dragged back into the underworld. Her contact with the living world is severely cut off.

-Morpho’s smart, so from the beginning she thought of a backup plan in case this happened. Remember the side note about how she can turn into butterflies? As well as how she keeps an eye on Galacta? She does this through butterflies…so she can still kind of keep an eye on him through her butterflies.

-Anyway. Galacta is too far gone to be able to even think of this, and assumes Morpho completely abandoned him. This is what causes him to finally break.

-Galacta starts a rampage, sometimes even forgetting about Kirby because he’s so desperate to somehow get Morpho back. In his mind, he thinks he can ’summon’ Morpho back if he kills enough people.

-This, however, never works, as Morpho is in hell prison.

-Anyway. Now that Galacta starts leaving Kirby to go on his crusades, his possession only grows stronger. He doesn’t care about staying hidden anymore, so, obviously, both sides of the still raging war are desperate to take him prisoner.

-They’re no match for Galacta, so instead, they go for Kirby.

-Well, once Galacta notices that his child his missing, he goes absolutely ballistic. He knows they took him back to Halcandra, because he knows they’re setting up a trap for him.

-Enter the Galactic Crisis. Galacta destroys Halcandra in a fit of rage and retrieving Kirby again.

-Once back in Kirby’s presence, Galacta has a brief moment of lucidity and realizes what he’s done, and allows himself to be imprisoned by the remaining Ancients.

-I’d like to point out that Galacta destroying an entire planet had MASSIVE repercussions for both sides of the war. At this point, the war had been raging on for 2 years and was nearing a close, as Jambandra had invaded Halcandra. So when galacta wiped out the planet, he wiped out most of the Ancients.

-This sent the underworld into complete chaos, and in this chaos Morpho managed to escape.

-After this crisis event, the Reapers were disbanded, and the underworld was sent into a shambling mess. Because of this, Morpho lost some of her powers, and still had to restrict her presence in the living world to butterflies.

-Anyway. Since she was still keeping tabs on Galacta, she saw what he did and was absolutely destroyed. From this point on, she vowed to find a way to get her husband back from whatever was possessing him, and to give their child a better life than either of them had.

-Galacta was sealed and removed from time by the remaining Ancients, who eventually died out/integrated into other societies, as they were left a broken, scattered mess.

-Back to Kirby and how he gets to the future…well, the Ancients didn’t just seal Galacta knight….they sealed Kirby away too.

-From here on out, Morpho rummages through the ruins of civilization to find a way to unseal her child, and cure Galacta.

-It takes. A long ass time. For her to unseal Kirby.

-I don’t have too many specifics on how she manages to do this, however I imagine she found a way to repair and use a broken Nova from the war.

-I would also like to reiterate that Morpho can rarely exist as her humanoid form, she has to be butterflies most of the time since now that the underworld is also a broken mess, it’s hard to get back into the world of the living.

-When Morpho retrieves Kirby, she takes him to a safe place and watches over him as the signature red butterflies.

-Since it took Morpho so long to get Kirby back, the world has changed drastically. Now, Galacta Knight is only a legend, a cautionary tale told to aspiring warriors. And sometimes, she’s even brought up in those legends, which gives her more of a reason to refrain from using her humanoid form so as not to be recognised.

-Furhtermore, any races that were a part of the Ancients are few and far between. Which, as I’m sure you can guess from Galacta Knight, means that the legion of puff knights in the ancient armies were largely wiped out in the Galactic Crisis. What I’m trying to say here is that puffballs and wizards like Hyness are really rare now. And really, evidence and knowledge of the Ancients is very rare as well.

-Well…this leads us to a certain bat winged knight who I will discuss later….since I’m redoing is reference too! So stay tuned (:

I hope this massive lore dump was worth the wait….if you actually read all of this thank you for helping me indulge in my AU! I have way too much lore for this…like. Believe it or not this is me trying to condense things.

Kirby: Meta Knight and the Knight of Hades (Chapter 9)

“It’s no mistake! Meta Knight has appeared!” 

Hearing Waddle Dee’s cry, Sword Knight gave a vacant look.

Javelin Knight got angry. “Waddle Dee! This isn’t the time for jokes!”

“But, I’m not kidding!”

Trident Knight shouted, “Meta Knight is wandering between life and death in bed on the battleship Halberd!”

“I-I know, but… that’s Meta Knight. It has to be!”

The Meta Knights looked at each other.

“No way… a fake?”

“Is it another disguise master like Beryl masquerading?”

They didn’t understand what was happening.

Waddle Dee continued watching the battle with a funny feeling.

Blade Knight, who quickly opened his eyes, couldn’t believe what he saw and muttered. “It’s a lie, I’m looking at an illusion. I can’t look at an illusion of Meta Knight… I can’t take it anymore…”

Kirby, on the other hand, had no doubt at all. “Wow, Meta Knight! You’re completely healed! Good! We were all worried!”

Kirby bounced up and jumped at Meta Knight.

Meta Knight staggered and muttered. “Kirby… did I come back… to this world?”

The fallen King Dedede staggered and got up. “Is that Meta Knight? No way, but he’s… a fake, it’s a fake isn’t it?”

“King Dedede? Heh… I’m so happy to see your face, for the first and hopefully last time.”

The red knight was surprised to see Meta Knight appear, but returned to the fight and started slashing.

Meta Knight quickly dodged and tried to pull out his sword, but he had no sword on him.

The sword he had in the land of Hades was a ghost sword with no substance. He couldn’t bring it to this world.

“...Oops!” Meta Knight held up his cloak and muttered, backtracking. “Wings like a red butterfly! It’s that Morpho Knight that Papi mentioned!”

“Mango… knight? Yeah, he was originally Galacta Knight!” Kirby shouted while avoiding the attack.

Meta Knight’s eyes shone. “Galacta Knight!?”

“Yeah, we were fighting Galacta Knight until a while ago. When we thought we finally defeated him, a red butterfly suddenly appeared and was obsessed with him.”

“Then, it was Galacta Knight who gave the agonizing death cry! The red butterfly and Galacta Knight fused to become Morpho Knight!”

“Mor-pho? More of what-!?”

While talking, Morpho Knight’s attacks were getting faster.

Neither Kirby, who had no copy ability, nor Meta Knight, who had no weapon, could fight back. All they could do was protect themselves while guarding and dodging.

“...Strong.” Meta Knight determined the strength of the enemy while avoiding attacks.

The eyes behind his mask began to shine. “The power of the butterfly from another world has been added to Galacta Knight. The overwhelming strength of the legendary warrior, even stronger…”

“It’s you after all, it’s the real Meta Knight!” King Dedede shouted. “Old pal, I’m excited to fight alongside you against a strong opponent, but how? You’re unconscious on the Halberd, right…?”

Morpho Knight spread his wings, soared, and plunged. Kirby and the others hurried to dodge. His crimson sword smashed the floor and scattered countless debris.

King Dedede frowned and said, “Urgh, we need to retreat!”

“What?”

“Buddy, you don’t have any weapons, Kirby has no copy ability, Blade Knight is weak. Only I can fight, but I can’t win against a monster like this. We need to regroup!”

“You want to run away? Stupid.” The stronger the opponent, the more his fighting spirit burns. This was Meta Knight’s true heart. “I can fight!”

King Dedede stomped on the floor and screamed. “Chill out, Meta Knight! You don’t have anything to fight with!”

When he heard this, Blade Knight shouted, “Meta Knight, here!” He held out his sword. “Please, use this!”

“Blade Knight! Thank you.” Meta Knight grasped the sword and shook it lightly.

King Dedede glared at Blade Knight with anger. “Don’t do it! Meta Knight, this is getting out of hand!”

The king’s murmur did not reach him. He grabbed his sword and glanced at Morpho Knight.

Morpho Knight swung his sword up. It had grown in size again, storing energy.

Far from giving up, Meta Knight kept fighting and fighting.

“This is… the joy of living, the heat of battle. This is what I want!”

He jumped high and slashed at Morpho Knight. However, the red knight moved fast. He easily evaded and snuck behind. His huge sword attacked Meta Knight.

Kirby hurried and expelled an air bullet that hit Meta Knight. Meta Knight was blown away and escaped the attack.

“Kirby! I want you to attack the enemy anyway!”

“I can’t! An air bullet isn’t going to hurt such a strong opponent!”

King Dedede was annoyed. “Tch, looks like I’ll have to fight after all! Kirby, Meta Knight, get behind me!”

The two quickly replied.

“No! I will fight too!”

“No, I’m staying here!”

“Well, if you insist…!” 

Meta Knight, King Dedede, and Kirby glared at Morpho Knight.

However, his strength was overwhelming. He swung his huge sword. Even King Dedede’s hammer couldn’t compete.

Was this the end for them!?

Meanwhile, the Meta Knights at the bottom of the hole were in turmoil.

“What’s happening!? Is it the real Meta Knight or a fake!?”

“He can’t be real! Meta Knight is on a bed in the Halberd!”

At that moment, Sword Knight’s communication device started ringing. His heart skipped a beat. “Yes, I’ll ask Captain Vul if he’s still there. Yes, this is Sword Knight!”

When Sword Knight answered the call, Captain Vul’s voice rushed out.

“Sword Knight! It’s terrible! Something awful has happened!”

“What’s wrong? No way, Meta Knight…”

“He’s gooooone aaaahhhh! Waaaaa!” Captain Vul was in a panic. He sounded on the verge of tears.

“Ca-captain Vul, calm down. Did he disappear…?”

“The doctor came to inform me that Meta Knight, who was supposed to be lying on the bed, suddenly disappeared! Thi-, this is awfaaaaaaahl!”

Sword Knight cut off communication with the captain. “It seems that Meta Knight disappeared from his bed!”

“What…! That means…!”

“No doubt, what appeared there…”

Sword Knight was in awe. “It’s the real Meta Knight! However it happened, Meta Knight woke up and appeared in this ancient temple!” 

Suddenly, Waddle Dee screamed.

Sword Knight shouted, “What’s wrong, Waddle Dee?”

“The red knight… he’s too strong…” Waddle Dee reported in a quivering voice. “The great king is already running away with Kirby. Meta Knight is being cornered!”

The Meta Knights felt sick. 

Trident Knight slammed his fist against the wall. “Ugh! If we could just get out of here…! Then we could go help Meta Knight and fight!”

“This is your fault!”

The Meta Knights turned to Beryl.

Javelin Knight was angry. “That’s right. Originally you just stole the treasured sword Galaxia… to…!? Oh yeah!”

The Meta Knights raised their faces at the same time.

Sword Knight shouted. “The Galaxia! We forgot the most important thing! Waddle Dee!”

“Ye, yes!”

“Deliver this to Meta Knight! Throw it to him, be careful!” Sword Knight threw the Galaxia with all his might.

Waddle Dee reached out and caught it firmly. 

“If he has his Galaxia, Meta Knight is invincible! He can’t lose to any strong enemy! You know what to do, Waddle Dee!”

“Understood!”

Waddle Dee started running with the Galaxia in hand.

Revenge of Meta Knight thoughts? Oh lore?

TY NOW TIME TO RAMBLE

The whole reason he tried taking over Dreamland in the first place was because he didn’t like how they only relied on Kirby for every problem could so why what would happen if there was a problem Kirby couldn’t face? Nobody would step up. So he constructed the Halberd as a means of back-up. It wasn’t all too powerful before, but as time went on he kept adding onto it making it a lot more powerful than he could trust himself with. But despite the nagging voice in the back of his mind telling him to stop, he kept adding, kept thinking, and everytime that voice was heard he’d shrug it off with “it’s emergency back-up for Dreamland it needs to be powerful.”

After the events of Kirby’s Adventure he gets sort of salty that he got beat by Kirby despite the fact he planned on it. His defeat made him keep thinking about how everyone relied on Kirby. His mind was made up during Super Star. The pure chaos of Dynablade, and even King DDD stealing the food, he got enraged at how nobody stood up for themselves and let Kirby do the work for them. So he brought out the Halberd and decided to either force them to defend themselves or take over and train them himself.

Obviously, things didn’t go well.

He has no idea where his crew is, his ship is at the bottom of the ocean, he’s an enemy of Dreamland the place he swore to protect, and he doesn’t want to confront King Dedede about this. For the first time in a while he’s terrified, and he feels so weak. He lost everything in his weakness and doesnt want it to happen again.

Cut to Milky Way Wishes. He watched what Kirby did and quickly set out to do the same, quickly becoming fixated on getting rid of his weaknesses by defeating Galacta Knight. He just barely does, coming back to Pop-Star severely injured, and barely satisfied. Despite his win he still feels weak. Part of him is just tempted to fly around PopStar challenging everyone he comes across so he can feel satisfied.

Thankfully, before he has the chance to do so, his crewmates find him and distract him long enough. They remind him that he isn’t weak and they care about him and they’ve been working on repairs to the Halberd after fishing it out of the ocean.

Then the dark matter shit hits, and knowing that he’s no longer welcome in Dreamland and that if he went to help DDD he’d only be hated, he stayed in the Halberd and ordered his men to not go outside until it was over. During this period he gets more time to actually think and clear his head. He starts to feel horrible for attempting to take over Dreamland and even fighting Galacta Knight, knowing he risked everybody’s safety for a stupid fight. He starts going out during the dark matter period, but being careful. He’d get supplies for his men and avoid Dreamland.

After the dark matter stuff, he gives up on feeling shitty over losing his allyship to Dreamland. He decides to do things HIS way. He patrols high above the skies of PopStar to watch for any threats, avoiding Dreamland best he can while also occasionally checking in. If there’s an issue? He takes care of it himself. Mirror world in trouble? Take care of that, and he does what he can to help. Dark force at risk of being released? Take care of it. Even if it meant having to help Kirby, who he started to grow more attatched to as he saw him as less of a thing for people to rely on and more of a noble warrior. also Kirby working with Meta Knight and not pestering him about what happened helps.

Shortly after the events of Squeak Squad, Kirby asks Daroach if he knows about Meta Knight. Daroach is like “yes ofc, we’re friends and he will occasionally help me out” though also mentions they haven’t spoken in a few years and won’t pick up his transmissions. Kirby asks if Daroach could find him, and Daroach has Doc find a way to track down the Halberd which hasn’t flown since it crashed. Kirby thanks Daroach a bunch and goes off to see Meta Knight! Who isn’t very happy to see him. They weren’t exactly friends at this point, but despite the respect MK had for Kirby, the guilt and slight annoyance he felt upon seeing them wasnt very pleasant. Meta Knight doesn’t attack them though, and just asks what he’s doing.

And Kirby asks about what the fyck has been up with him. He attacks and helps Kirby, takes over Dreamland, and then goes back to helping fight after while avoiding everybody. It confused the hell outta Kirby. It takes Meta Knight a moment, but he simplifies what happened and how he felt during everything. And how he actually wants to go back to Dreamland but is too weak to.

Kirby responds with “oh!! you feel bad and want to do better and you have been!! come on!!” And drags his ass back to Dreamland despite how unwilling he is. He gets... mixed responses from the civilians, but he’s mostly worried about DDD who is pissed that MK is back. He hasn’t seen him since RoMK and good god does he have mixed feelings about it. He was worried about MK since the taking over DL thing came out of nowhere espescially since they were dating, but at the same time he threatened the lives of too many people and tried taking what didn’t belong to him.

And Meta Knight apologizes and says that he wants to make it up to him. They decide to break up (dededivorce lmao) and King Dedede says he’ll think about the forgiveness if Meta Knight pulls his weight and sticks to his promise. And he does! And I have no idea how to end this so yeah that’s all
