I think it is my moral obligation to this world to fill it with good, terrible, unmarketable ideas.

I've personally thrown away hours trying to follow trends, making art I was proud of but for things I haven't cared about. I've also created things I love deeply. Regardless of effort or work, whether your art gets seen or popular is a crapshoot -- you can chase current content all you want & come away with nothing, having only wasted your time. You & I don't get to decide whether the things we make end up in the starlight, not in the slightest.

The only thing you get to decide, here, is whether you make something you enjoy making or not. Why make something that you don't care about or have any fun doing, just to gamble on whether it'll get notes?

Anyhow. I'mma make unlikeable art on purpose.

#gale chatter #it's been like a long time since i made one of these weird almost-encouraging posts where i wax poetic about life & art & creation & etc #this was specifically spurred by a family member who i love very much #who‚ knowing i am surrounded by big ideas i never make wanted to encourage me to pursue one of them #but only if that idea was marketable or palateable. not any weird or indulgent ideas. #so they basically gave me homework under the guise i would create something i could put in a portfolio #something i never wanted & still refuse to do for very hard to communicate reasons #anyhow. boy howdy is he about to find out it is impossible to get me to do anything i do not expressly want to do #100% okay to rb btw ignore these tags #yeah maybe from outside perspective it looks like i haven't pursued trends too hard -- that's somewhat true #but i stg i have & on rare occasion it goes decently well & other times nobody sees it #so why do i waste my time creating that which i do not love? i would rather waste time on something fun
