Understanding Decaffeinated Coffee Beans
What are Decaf Coffee Beans?
Decaffeinated coffee beans are regular coffee beans that have undergone a process to remove most of the caffeine content. This process allows coffee lovers to enjoy coffee's taste and aroma without experiencing caffeine's stimulating effects.
How are Decaf Coffee Beans Processed?
Decaf coffee beans are typically processed using one of two methods: solvent-based or water-based. In the solvent-based method, chemicals like methylene chloride or ethyl acetate extract caffeine from the beans. In the water-based way, known as the Swiss Water Process, caffeine is removed using water and activated carbon filters, resulting in a chemical-free decaffeination process.
Benefits of Decaffeinated Coffee
Health Benefits
Decaffeinated coffee offers many of the same health benefits as regular coffee, such as antioxidants and potential protection against certain diseases, without the side effects of caffeine. It's a great option for individuals who want to reduce their caffeine intake without sacrificing the health benefits of coffee consumption.

Which is the healthiest decaf coffee?
Tumblr media
Coffee without caffeine. Isn’t that something like a drink without alcohol? Well, kind of. But then, as with alcohol, there’s a sizable population of coffee drinkers who experience side-effects after downing one too many cups. Conditions like anxiety, insomnia, elevated heart rate and even restlessness.
Decaf: A boon that came with its own surprises
So, did decaf end the problems of caffeine-sensitive coffee drinkers? Yes and no. Yes, it surely freed coffee sippers from the side-effects discussed above. No, because decaf created by using chemical solvents such as methylene chloride (used in the production of adhesives, paints and pharmaceuticals) opened up its own can of issues: headache, confusion, nausea, vomiting, dizziness and fatigue.
Is there a healthy decaf at all?
There is. Swiss Water Decaf. A breed of decaf that’s free of chemicals and retains most of the coffee’s original flavor. A decaf that stands the test of health without losing the battle for taste. This is what makes the Swiss Water Decaf the world’s healthiest decaffeinated coffee.
More about Swiss Water Decaf
The name originates from the decaffeination method (Swiss Water Decaf) which is water-based and was discovered in Switzerland in the 1930s. This simple process extracts caffeine from raw coffee in the most natural way possible and removes up to 99.9% caffeine. The uniqueness of this process is, it leaves all of the coffee’s precious natural oils, essential antioxidants and flavor producing chemicals perfectly intact.
How to choose the best Swiss Water Decaf
As with anything good in the world, Swiss Water Decaf too, would be available in myriad variants. To brew a mug of Swiss Water Decaf that’s at its original and healthiest best, here is what you need to look for:
*Look at the label: The decaf coffee you choose should either carry the Swiss Water Process logo or state the use of the Swiss Water Process.

Green Cleaning Products Should be Healthier
Tumblr media
We all want to keep our homes clean and kill as many germs possible to ensure that our families are healthy. Did you know that 17,000 petrochemicals can be used by companies to make cleaning products? Only 30% of these 17,000 petrochemicals have been tested for their effects on the environment and human health. Do you ever check the ingredient list when shopping for cleaning products? You might not want to čistenie odpadov Trenčín as the manufacturers of cleaning products don't have to list all ingredients. This will make it difficult to know what you are exposing yourself to. These chemicals can be carcinogens, reproductive toxins and hormone disrupting chemicals. Ethoxylated nonyl phenols and Methylene chloride are some of the major health concerns. It is difficult to make an informed decision when the labeling requirements are not met for cleaning products. Cleaning your home is about getting rid of dirt, germs, and stains that can be harmful to the health of all who live in it. Although chemicals may make cleaning more simple, your home now contains harmful chemicals. What should you do?
My research revealed that some green cleaning products list the ingredients of their products while others don't. However, their websites might have something like "purified water and amino acids, vitamins and minerals and other ingredients derived primarily from leafy green vegetables, edible seed and seed-bearing plant ingredients". Why don't they simply list the amino acids and leafy green veggies in their products? It also lets you see what ingredients aren't in the product. Although it is not mandatory to list the ingredients on the product's label, I believe they must have something to hide. It would be safer to buy a product with some ingredient information, either on the product's website or on their website. Green cleaning products will cost more, but you cannot put a price tag on being healthy.
You could also make your own products, knowing exactly what's in each product. You can find a lot of cleaning products online, including recipes for carpet cleaning, degreaser and carpet cleaning. You can make your own cleaning products with just a few ingredients: baking soda, vinegar, white vinegar, lemon extract, pure soap, tea tree oils, isopropyl alcohols, cornstarch, essential oils, and cornstarch. Alka Seltzer can be used to unclog sinks, clean your toilet bowl, and whiten your clothes. You can protect your family and home by buying green cleaning products, or making your own.
Another thing to remember when you want a clean home is to leave your shoes at home. Your shoes can contain oil, animal wastes, cigarette ashes and pollens, as well as other substances that you may have walked in throughout the day. Think about the child playing on the ground. Now think about how you feel when you walk barefoot in your house, then climb into bed. You are the one who climbed into bed with you. You will save time cleaning your house by removing your shoes at your door. This is because your family and you aren't contaminating your home with dirt. Be healthy, keep your home clean and be green.

What Do Carbon Water Filters Remove? Find Out Here!
Tumblr media
A carbon water filter is a type of filter that traps contaminants using a process known as adsorption. Carbon filters are found in a variety of filter types, including water pitcher filters, water bottle filters, under-sink filters, whole-house filters, faucet filters, and countertop filters. There are several types of activated carbon filters. The most popular kinds are carbon block filters and granular activated carbon (GAC) filters. In this guide, we've shared a list of the most common contaminants removed by carbon water filters. We've also shared what activated carbon water filters CAN'T remove. 📌 Key Takeaways: - Activated carbon filters can remove chlorine, pesticides, herbicides, some VOCs, some disinfection byproducts and other organic chemicals from tap water. - Most carbon filters CAN'T remove microorganisms, chloramine, hardness minerals, salts, fluoride, or most heavy metals. - Carbon block filters have a larger surface area and a slower flow rate than granular activated carbon filters, which makes them slightly more effective at removing contaminants. - Factors affecting the activated carbon filtration process are the filter type, the filter size and surface area, the filter quality, other media used in the filter, and the flow rate of water through the filter. ⚗️ What Can A Carbon Water Filter Remove? Some of the contaminants that are reduced or removed by an activated carbon water filter are: Chlorine Chlorine is the contaminant that's most commonly removed by activated carbon filters. Water in the US is almost always disinfected with chlorine. This chemical is needed to kill bacteria and viruses in water and make it potable (safe to drink), but it gives water an unpleasant swimming pool taste and odor. Premium activated carbon filters can reduce at least 90% free chlorine, as well as the unpleasant tastes and odors associated with chlorine in water. 📌 Good to know: Some US states use chloramine disinfection. Unfortunately, a standard activated carbon water filter can't reduce this chemical. You'll need to buy an enhanced carbon water filter, known as a catalytic carbon water filter, to filter out chloramine. Disinfection Byproducts Small amounts of chlorine aren't thought to be harmful, but they produce harmful byproducts that are dangerous to human health. Activated carbon has proven effective in reducing chlorine byproducts with halogen elements (such as chlorine, iodine, and bromine). In fact, a study found that carbon filters are the most effective point-of-use filters for reducing adsorbable organic halogens, offering up to 94% removal. Pharmaceuticals Activated carbon filters have shown promise in reducing an emerging contaminant in our drinking water supplies: pharmaceuticals. Pharmaceuticals are natural or synthetic chemicals that get into our water through human waste and improper disposal of medications (such as flushing drugs down toilets or sinks). In small amounts, they're not thought to have health effects, but they're dangerous to aquatic life. A study found that activated carbon can remove many pharmaceutical residues in wastewater treatment, and may be a good alternative treatment to ozone. VOCs Volatile organic compounds (VOCs for short) are organic chemicals that get into drinking water through industrial dumping, improper disposal of household products, and leaks and spills. There are hundreds of VOCs. Activated carbon filters can't remove all of them, but they target some of the most common VOCs, including formaldehyde, benzene, tetrachloroethylene, and methylene chloride. PFAs PFAS are a type of synthetic compound that were once used heavily in the manufacturing industry to make firefighting foam, waterproof materials, non-stick cookware, and more. These chemicals are known as "forever chemicals" because they linger in the environment for centuries, and are nearly impossible to break down. Some of the known health effects of PFOS are cancer and liver damage. A study found that activated carbon filters can reduce about 73% of PFAS contaminants in drinking water. Pesticides Pesticides are chemical substances used to control pests in agriculture or public health protection programs. Due to their widespread use, pesticides leach into surface water and groundwater supplies through soil seepage and surface water runoff. There are tens of pesticides, and most activated carbon filters can remove a handful of the most common pesticides that exist in the environment today, including lindane, chlordecone, kepone, heptachlor, and chlordane. Herbicides Herbicides are often used hand-in-hand with pesticides to control weeds and increase the production of desired crops in agriculture. Again, these chemicals can often end up in local water supplies, due to poor or uncontrolled farming practices. Activated carbon can reduce several common herbicides in tap water, including glyphosate (Roundup), atrazine and 2,4-D weedkiller. Phosphate Phosphate, a chemical containing the mineral phosphorous, is used in fertilizer and feed in agriculture, as well as construction, personal hygiene, and food products. Runoff, improper industrial waste disposal, and sewage all leach phosphate into the environment. Activated carbon is considered relatively effective at reducing phosphate in water, with a maximum phosphate removal of just over 50% (according to a 2016 study). Lithium Lithium is a metal that occurs naturally in soils and rocks, which is usually how it ends up in our drinking water. At the moment, the potential health effects of lithium in drinking water are largely unknown. Active carbon filters made from charcoal can remove around 90% of lithium in water. 🚫 What a Carbon Water Filter CAN'T Remove There are thousands of trace contaminants in most drinking water sources. Carbon filters can only reduce or remove a handful of these. Some of the contaminants that CAN'T be removed by an activated carbon filter are: Fluoride Activated carbon filters can't reduce fluoride in drinking water. If you want to remove fluoride from your water, buy an activated alumina filter or a reverse osmosis system. Chloramine A standard activated carbon filter can't reduce chloramine. The best type of chloramine removal filter is an activated catalytic carbon filter - which is activated carbon with an advanced capacity, allowing for the removal of a greater number of contaminants. Minerals And Salts Minerals and salts are retained in water filtered by activated carbon. Most people prefer to keep healthy minerals in their drinking water, so this isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you want to drink water that's completely free from minerals and salts, you'll need to buy a reverse osmosis filter. Water Hardness Calcium and magnesium minerals contribute to water hardness. A carbon water filter can't remove these minerals. To treat water hardness, you'll need to install a whole-home water softener or salt-free water conditioner. Most Heavy Metals Most heavy metals aren't attracted to carbon media, so they're retained during the carbon filtration process. Only special activated carbon filters can reduce heavy metals in water. Look for a carbon water filter combined with KDF media, which reduces water-soluble metals like copper, zinc, iron, and cadmium. Microorganisms Microorganisms like bacteria and viruses are small enough to slip through the pores of an activated carbon water filter. A ceramic filter combined with carbon media is usually capable of reducing microorganisms AND treating tastes and odors. 📤 How Do Carbon Filters Remove Contaminants From Water? Activated carbon filters use a process called adsorption to reduce contaminants in tap water. The activated carbon water filter media has a sponge-like ability to adsorb chemicals, tastes, and smells. Carbon filters have a large surface area, enabling them to trap a large number of contaminants. 💡 How does the adsorption process work? The dissolved impurities in water are attracted to the carbon media, and stick to its surface. Water particles pass through the filter pores, while the contaminants are left in the media. Eventually, the carbon media becomes completely saturated with contaminants, clogging its pores and reducing its flow rate. When this happens, the filter must be replaced. 📝 What Affects a Carbon Filter's Contaminant Removal Ability? The below factors affect an activated carbon filter's ability to remove contaminants from tap water: The Filter Size & Surface Area The larger the filter, and the bigger the filter's surface area, the more contaminants are removed from water. Why? Because a large filter surface area gives more contact time between water and the media, allowing more opportunity for greater contaminant removal. The Type of Carbon Filter As we mentioned at the beginning of this guide, there are several types of activated carbon filters. While all types of carbon water filters generally remove the same contaminants, some are more effective at contaminant removal than others. A granular activated carbon (GAC) filter is made from loose carbon particles, while carbon block filters use fine carbon granules that are bound together into blocks, making them unable to move. 📌 Granular activated carbon filters aren't quite as thorough at removing contaminants as carbon block filters. This is because the large surface area design of carbon block filters allows for a longer contact time with water and prevents most contaminants from passing through. Carbon filters can also be found in point of entry (POE) and point of use (POU) filter applications. You're most likely to find carbon block filters in smaller point of use models, such as in water pitchers and faucet filters. GAC filters, usually made from coconut shell activated carbon, offer a faster flow rate, so they're more commonly found in larger, POE models for whole home use. The Filter Flow Rate The flow rate of water passing through the filter media also affects its contaminant removal ability. For instance, a water filter pitcher uses gravity filtration, which means that water flows through the filter much slower than in an under-sink filter, which uses water pressure to send water quickly through the media. A slower water flow allows a longer contact time between the water and the activated carbon media, giving more time for contaminants to be removed. Other Combined Media Often, manufacturers combine activated carbon filter media with other types of media, such as KDF, ion exchange, ceramic, or activated alumina media. The obvious benefit of this is that the filter can remove more than just a handful of contaminants - it may also be able to remove microorganisms, heavy metals, and chloramine, depending on the filter media used. The more complex the filter, and the more media blends used, the more contaminants can be removed. The Filter Brand Some filter brands are simply better than others when it comes to contaminant removal. The better quality the filter, the more capable of contaminant removal it'll be. Some filter designs are lacking compared to their competitors, and this is seen in their poorer filtration abilities. 📌 Look for activated carbon filters that have been tested or certified to NSF Standards - especially NSF 42, for the reduction of chlorine, taste, and odor. A carbon water filter should be able to reduce at least 90% of chlorine from water. 🤔 Is A Carbon Filter Right For You? In our opinion, an activated carbon water filter is the right choice for you if your main water quality issue is chlorine. Carbon filters are great for people with small budgets who predominantly want to improve the taste and smell of their water by removing a handful of unpleasant contaminants. Carbon filtration isn't a good solution for well water. People looking to achieve thoroughly purified water shouldn't buy a carbon filter. If you're not prepared to spend money on new filters (usually every 2-9 months, depending on the filter size), carbon filters aren't right for you. If you don't already know what your water contains, buy a home water quality test. If the test shows that your water mainly contains organic contaminants, carbon filters are a good choice. Consider buying a filter that combines carbon media with other filter media for more thorough contaminant removal. ❔ What Do Carbon Filters Remove? FAQ Do carbon filters remove hard water? No, carbon filters don't remove hard water. No water filter can effectively soften your drinking water. The best way to remove calcium and magnesium hard water minerals is to install a water softener, which exchanges these hardness minerals with sodium or potassium, pulling them out of the water. Do carbon filters remove toxins? Carbon filters remove some toxins, including chemicals and VOCs, from water. However, they don't produce 100% toxin-free water. The only way to remove all toxins from your water is with a reverse osmosis system or a water distiller. Does a carbon water filter remove bacteria? No, a carbon water filter alone can't remove bacteria. The pores of a carbon filter are large enough to allow tiny bacteria particles to slip through. If you want to remove bacteria, look at a carbon and ceramic combined filter, since ceramic filters usually remove microorganisms. What are the benefits of a carbon filter? Some of the benefits of a carbon filter are improved water taste and smell, harmful contaminants removed, healthy minerals retained, and affordable upfront cost and maintenance. Is carbon filtered water good for you? Yes, carbon filtered water is good for you because it contains a much-reduced amount of chlorine, VOCs, and other organic chemicals compared to normal tap water. Plus, it still contains healthy minerals like calcium and magnesium. With that said, carbon filtration doesn't remove everything from water, so water from a carbon filter will still likely contain some trace contaminants. Read the full article

Lesser-Known Facts about Decaf Coffee
No other beverage in the world is as addictive as coffee. But caffeine can have a lot of side effects like nervousness, insomnia, nausea, restlessness, increased heart rate, and so on. So, are you suffering from any of these side effects and think it’s time to quit coffee? Here’s a better option in the name of decaf or decaffeinated coffee.
Tumblr media
Colombian Decaf Coffee is an amazing option for individuals who wish to cut down on caffeine. The caffeine gets removed from the coffee via water or solvents. But before switching to this type of coffee, learn these lesser-known facts.
Some Lesser-Known Facts about Decaf Coffee
Decaffeinated coffee is as healthy as caffeinated coffee. The only difference is that it contains a tiny amount of caffeine.
1. It Has Only 0.1% Caffeine
Since it contains only a tiny amount of caffeine (around .1%), it only keeps you awake for some hours. Your body’s tolerance for staying awake also depends on different parameters like:
Weight
Age
How often do you consume caffeine
The body chemistry
2. It’s a Safe Drink
Coffee decaffeinated via a traditional method is always safe for consumption. No evidence supports the fact that decaffeinated coffee leads to negative health impacts.
3. There are Three Common Decaffeination Methods
Methylene Chloride
Beans get steamed to open pores. A mixture of water and methylene chloride gets added to the machine. Chloroform gas is one by-product. Beans get agitated in the mixture for the caffeine to get absorbed & removed. Activated charcoal gets added. Now, coffee gets dehydrated with the hot air.
Ethyl Acetate
Coffee beans get steamed & placed into a percolator where it gets combined with ethyl acetate. The prime purpose is to absorb the caffeine from within them. Activated charcoal removes the excess chemical compounds from the finished product.
Another common method is the super carbon dioxide method.

Different Methods for Paint Removal
When it comes to paint removal, there are many methods available. A sander can be useful when you're trying to prepare a surface for painting. You should know how to remove paint to get good results. Power sanders are effective at removing paint quickly and safely. You'll need to be able to control the amount of heat being applied to the surface. Make sure you have a fire extinguisher nearby.
Paint strippers are readily available at home improvement stores, but the chemicals they contain are not safe for the environment. They're usually either solvent-based or caustic-based. The most common paint strippers contain acetone, methylene chloride, toluene, or methanol, though other chemicals can also be used. The most important tip when using a stripper is to follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully.
While a paint remover is safe for most surfaces, you'll need to wait for the product to work. While it can remove paint without causing damage to the surface, some products may not be suitable for textured or wooden surfaces. If you're working on a more difficult project, you might need to leave it on for longer. You can apply the product to a large surface area in these cases. Once you have applied the remover, you can proceed with the paint removal.
Painting bricks requires a different approach than removing paint from other surfaces. First, the bricks must be completely dry before you begin. If the paint is on the walls of a building, sanding will help loosen the paint. You must ensure that you use good ventilation while doing the job. Another method is to soak the brick in lacquer thinner. This method requires a lot of ventilation. If you do this method, follow the manufacturer's instructions to ensure that the paint removal process goes smoothly.
In addition to water, methylene chloride is sometimes used to remove paint. Its chemical composition is relatively harmless, although it should be avoided in places with poor ventilation. The most effective paint removers will dissolve oil-based paint with a single application. However, this method requires more expensive products. If you want to use a paint remover, you should check with your local health department before you get started. They will help you choose the most effective product to remove paint and prevent harmful health effects.
When using paint removers, make sure to wear goggles. The dust can get in your eyes and hurt them so a mask will protect them from harmful particles. Paint removers can be purchased easily online. A reputable company will also sell affordable paint removal masks. It's a good idea to buy at least a couple of these and test the product. If you do not find a suitable product, try another paint remover.
Once you have determined how much paint you'd like to remove, you can begin by applying a stripper to the surface. If you're painting a room, place a few pieces of newspaper or disposable towels in the pan. Then, use tongs to remove the items from the water and place them on a clean surface. Use a stiff-bristled brush or an old toothbrush to remove the remaining paint. It may take several tries, so be patient and follow the directions on the label.

VOCs in Your Home: Sources, Effects & How to Reduce Them?
Volatile Organic Compounds a.k.a VOCs are a group of chemicals, commonly found in many the construction materials and home maintenance products. These toxins are discharged into the indoor air we breathe once they reach our homes.
They may or may not be adorable, and odour is not a reliable signal of health risk. Examples of these chemicals include:
-          Benzene
-          Ethylene Glycol
-          Formaldehyde
-          Methylene Chloride
-          Tetrachloroethylene
-          Toluene
-          Xylene
-          Butadiene, etc.
VOCs in wastewater and air has proven to be highly dangerous for human health. But where do they originate? What impact do they have on us? What can we do to make their presence in our lives less noticeable? Here's a quick rundown to assist you to figure out the answers to some crucial VOC-related concerns.
Major Sources of VOCs
Building materials, home and personal care items, and several other everyday activities are major sources of VOCs. E.g.
• Paints, varnishes, caulks, adhesives, carpet, vinyl flooring, composite wood products, upholstery, foam, and other building materials are all substantial emitters of VOCs.
• Air fresheners, cleaning products, cosmetics, motor oil, gasoline, and other home and personal care goods emit large amounts of VOCs.
• Daily activities such as smoking, dry cleaning, photocopiers, cooking, and wood-burning are major VOC emitters.
VOC Exposure: Effects on Health
Inhaling any chemical might cause health problems depending on how much is in the air, how long and how often a person breathes it in.
Even long-term / continuous exposure to lower levels of VOCs may raise health concerns in people with lower immunity. Studies have shown that continuous exposure to VOC in air quality may generate problems in patients with asthma or someone sensitive to chemicals.
It's vital to realise that VOCs are a collection of compounds. Each chemical has its toxicity and can cause severe health issues.
Common symptoms of VOC exposure in case of Acute & short term exposures (E.g. hours to days):
· Irritation in eyes, nose & throat
· Constant headache
· Feeling nausea or vomiting
· Sense of dizziness
· Worsening of asthma symptoms
Common health affects of VOC exposure in case of Chronic exposures (E.g. For years to a lifetime):
· Developing Cancer in organs
· Organ Damage like liver & kidney
· Damage to the central nervous system
What is a safe VOC level?
It is best to restrict your exposure to VOC-containing goods and materials to protect your health. If you believe VOCs are causing health concerns, try lowering the amount in your house. In case you have symptoms, it’s better to see a doctor and rule out other reasons causing the problem.
Most researchers in analytical labs emphasised on specific substance research. The health effects of chemical mixtures are less well understood. There are no health-based criteria for group of VOCs. It’s because the toxicity of each molecule differs and hence has individual impacts.
Are some persons more vulnerable to VOC exposure than others?
Involvement of VOCs in air quality can cause irritation and disease in persons with respiratory disorders such as asthma, small children, the elderly, and those who have heightened chemical sensitivity.
How can I lower the amount of VOCs in my home?
Here are some important things to keep in mind to lowering the risk of VOCs presence in your home:
• When it comes to paints, solvents, adhesives, and caulks, buy only what you need at the moment because unused household chemicals can may leak and release VOCs into your indoor air.
• Keep unneeded chemicals in a garage or shed where they won't be seen.
• Get rid of any unused chemicals you have in your home or garage.
• Look for floor models that have been allowed to off-gas in the store when buying new things, as well as low-VOC paints and furnishings.
• Increasing the amount of fresh air in your home can help to lower VOC levels indoors.
• High temperatures and humidity causes higher gaseous emissions from chemicals. So, it’s highly suggested to maintain a lower temperature and relative humidity inside your home to avoid VOCV release.
• When possible, execute home renovations when the house is empty or during seasons when you can open doors and windows for better ventilation.
To detect the presence of VOCs in Wastewater and air quality, Imspex has developed a device. It uses GC-IMS technology to detect and identify the quantum and quality of VOCs in air & water and tell you how safe it is. The device has greater industrial applications and will play a major role in improving the quality of air and water in and around our houses in the coming future.

How to Recycle Your Used Industrial Solvents
Tumblr media
Recycling your solvents can direct profits directly back to your company. It can turn that costly liability into a source of revenue.
You’re a smart business owner, and that means you do what’s best for your bottom line. Keep reading to find out how your business can save on disposal costs.
What are Industrial Solvents?
Solvents are chemicals capable of dissolving, suspending or extracting other substances they come in contact with. Some solvent molecules have a polar (hydrophilic) region and a non-polar (hydrophobic) region; water is the best-known example of this type of solvent. Solvent solutions can be used as paint thinners, nail polish removers, spot removers for clothing, and in many other household cleaners.
Industrial solvents (otherwise known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs)) are the most widely used chemicals in today’s society. They are routinely encountered by people who live or work near industrial facilities, workers in industries that produce or use them, and workers in carpet, furniture, and paint stores. People can also be exposed to them near automobile service stations and dry cleaners.
Common Industrial Solvents:
Acetone
Denatured Ethanol
Ethyl Acetate
Ink Wash
Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA)
Lacquer Thinner
Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK)
Methylene Chloride
Mineral Spirits (150 flash)
N-Methyl-2-Pyrrolidone
N-Propyl Bromide
Propylene Carbonate
Tetrahydrofuran (THF)
Knowing how to dispose of solvents waste is an essential part of your business. And knowing where to dispose of solvents can be tricky – but that’s why you hire third party companies for things like:
Isopropyl Alcohol Recycling
Acetone Waste Disposal
Waste Thinners Disposal
And other Hazardous Waste Disposal
But these removal costs can rack up. Most companies will just chalk them down to overhead costs- but what if you found a way to just about eradicate disposal costs? What if your company could, for example, reuse paint thinner while enjoying the benefits of reduced costs? Recycling a solvent can dramatically reduce not only your company’s waste stream, but can boost profit too.
What is Solvent Recycling?
Recycling solvents is a process that recycles used solvent back into their original form. Using recycled solvents not only reduces the amount of hazardous materials produced but also reduces overall solvent costs.
By recycling your chemicals, solvents, and other chemical waste products for reconditioning and resale to the original manufacturer, you can achieve dramatic cost savings. The money spent on materials, equipment, and operating costs savings far exceed what you will save in disposal costs.
It’s a paradigm case for effective waste management, and the scenario is all too familiar for companies- in the EU alone, the average company produced over 101.7 million tonnes of hazardous waste in 2018. These solvents are often incinerated or landfilled, destroying up to 90 percent of their value. Fortunately, there’s a better option with Solvent Recycling Systems.
How Solvent Washer Can Earn You Profit Using a Solvent Recycler.
Our technology enables a complete transformation of your solvent production plant in a simple and fast retrofit. It works with the systems you have presently in place, with practically no changes to your current installations. Solvent recovery units are designed to enhance or supplement existing process units. We use proven technology that is easily maintained and versatile in handling a variety of solvent streams from many different sources − from traditional processes to emerging technologies.
Benefits of Using Solvent Recovery:
Quick Look: Benefits of Solvent Recovery & Recycling:
Substantially Reduces need to purchase new solvents

ROI in a matter of Months
Simplify regulatory reporting
Improves control over hazardous waste liability
Minimize on-site storage of hazardous wastes
Saves your company tons of money
Save money by buying and using only the solvents you need.
Reduce your solvent usage and your costs by up to 80% without sacrificing performance.
Provide the same performance as before, even though you might dedicate more funds to “Hazardous Waste Management”
Benefits of Recycling Industrial Solvents
The primary advantages of solvent recycling are to reduce costs, minimize wastewater treatment requirements, and maintain an acceptable level of environmental safety.
If you’re like most companies, you want to recycle your waste solvents to minimize the hazards they pose to your workers and the environment. But don’t forget there are other benefits to reducing waste solvents. Recycling reduces your generator status (which is good for worker safety) and can help maintain or improve your company’s environmental image, especially in an eco-aware community.
Solvent recycling can be beneficial to your bottom line in two ways. First, it reduces the volume of waste you create and transport to disposal facilities. Second, it can reduce the cost per pound (which is roughly calculated by weighing your waste before and after treatment).
With a robust chemical solvent recycling program, you can demonstrate your commitment to the important issue of environmental impact and your sound environmental practices. The key is a well-executed solvent recycling system that does not impact operations and doesn’t leave behind bad odour or hazardous residue. Thousands of companies currently operate these kinds of programs.
A solvent recycling program is one of the most important things you can do to protect the environment. It safeguards the air, water and soil where your company operates while making good business sense. It pays for itself in reducing waste disposal charges, easing collection logistics and flagging your environmental sensibility.
What if Industrial Solvents are not Recycled?
Consumers are becoming increasingly demanding of the products they buy. Rising expectations of sustainability, health, and convenience are driving companies to innovate. Using solvent recycling to repurpose waste solvent is a key strategy in continuing to meet those demands. Solvent recycling allows your company to ensure that none of its products leaves emissions or hazardous waste as a part of its value chain, and contributes to a greener society as a whole.
In the relatively rare cases that it cannot be reused, there are hazardous waste brokers who would be happy to purchase recovered products from you. This provides a residual benefit when compared to traditional hazardous waste removal where there is no scrap value. Hazardous waste disposal costs can be quite costly, and hazardous waste disposal companies typically charge by the pound. Recycling your hazardous waste products and brokering them will still result in significant cost savings compared to the expense of traditional disposal methods.
If your solvent is not being recycled, then it is going to waste. Or, you’re wasting money using solvent waste collection. Which is not only detrimental to the environment but a waste of resources. According to the EPA, approximately 90% of solvents are not recycled- that’s a lot of businesses who are leaving money on the table by not recycling their solvent. Are you one of them?
If you switch to becoming a solvent recycler, your company could end up repurposing up to 90% of used solvents. This translates to thousands of dollars, in your company’s profit margin, every year. Simply by recycling solvent.
Still Not Convinced? Check This Out:
For a simplistic example, let’s look at the recovery of used solvents generated:
$6,100/year relative to the cost of traditional hazardous waste removal.
If these used solvents could not be recovered, they would have to be incinerated at an estimated cost of $50,000/year.
The net tangible benefit of the recycling project can be around $44,900/year.
Process to Recycle Industrial Solvents
Getting started is easy. Simply request a quote and we will help you identify the perfect solution that will not only benefit your company’s environmental footprint but the company’s bottom line too.
Industrial solvents can be processed at waste processors to render a percentage of their bulk into reusable products—typically as much as 80 percent. Depending on the system employed, either the original solvent or its recycled surrogate may serve as a vehicle to cross-linked thermoset polymers used in composites, adhesives, plastisols, and other industrial applications. With the exception of chlorinated solvents, it is also possible to recover aromatic components intact.
The waste solvents are placed into a machine that cleans the formulation. This is typically done using vaporization and distillation. The solvent is recovered by cooling the vapours until they turn back into a liquid. When that happens, the solute separates from the solvent, thereby making it ready for reuse. During the distillation processes, the solute (the polluting substance) and the solvent are separated. The vaporized solvent is then cooled, where it changes back into its liquid form. The vaporization helps to separate the two so that you are left with the clean solvent ready for repurposing.
Another process is called fractionation. Fractionation involves purifying waste solvents by forcing them through small tubes at different temperatures. The result is the same as with distillation: The solvent is purified to its original state and is ready for reapplication.
The Bottom Line:
Solvents and thinners are hazardous substances not fit for disposal in your regular garbage.
The amount of waste generated by industrial operations is unnecessary with today’s environmentally friendly waste solvent recycling options.
Spent solvents can actually end up increasing your company’s profit. Transportation and disposal of solvents and chemicals have a high cost, and companies are beginning to embrace the benefits of solvent reclamation for their industrial solvents and chemicals.
In today’s business world, many enterprises would prefer to avoid the disposal of any waste material. As a result, a properly planned and executed solvent recycling program would be a wise investment. An effective solvent recycling program can improve the overall efficiency of an organization by allowing for greater material reuse, reduce compliance risks and liabilities, and help achieve significant cost savings over time.

How exactly to GET RID OF Paint From Windows
Tumblr media
Removal of accidental splatters of paint from windows can be difficult If you have the right instructions and tools, you are able to turn this troublesome task into an enjoyable experience. The following blog article will teach you how to clean paint from glass by using various methods and tools.
How to Remove Paint From Glass
If your property or office is the victim of graffiti or a bad paint work, here are quick tricks to swiftly remove paint from windows. These techniques also work when you're trying to get rid of the spray from your windows.
Buy the Ideal Solvent
Solvents can be described as liquids that dissolve and soften the paint. There's a wide range of solvent strengths with varying strengths from soft to plastic dissolving strong. Since stronger solvents may damage window films or tints, it's recommended to begin with a weak solvent and only switch to stronger solutions when weaker solvents do not soften the paint.
From Weakest To Strongest, Three Common Solvents Are:
Mineral spirits
Alcohol
Methylene chloride
Use a Razor Blade to Remove Cured Paint
Before you apply the solvent, employ a sharp blade to get rid of as much paint as you can. To ensure you don't scratch the glass, follow these steps:
The bucket should be filled with a sudsy blend of warm water and dish soap.
Completely soak the window in your soapy water.
The blade should be held at a 45-degree angle and gently scrape off the paint.
The most important thing is to make sure the glass as well as the blade remain moist while scraping. Utilizing a dry blade on dry glass is a guaranteed way to scratch up your window.
Apply the Paint Solvent
If the razor is unable to eliminate the stubborn patches of paint, then it's time to break out your solvent. Before you do that, make sure to wear safety glasses and gloves. After you've been protected, take these actions:
Pour some solvent onto an unclean rag, and then hold your rag against the paint. After a couple of minutes the solvent should soften the paint.
Use a clean cloth to wipe away the softened paint.
Wash the paint off with a wipe, apply more, and repeat this process until there's nothing but paint visible on your window.
Once all the paint is removed from the window, use a dry, dry rag to eliminate any solvent that remains from the window. Clean the glass using cleaning solutions for windows to return it back to its prior paint clarity and shine.
How to Commonly GET RID OF Decorate From Glass Without Razor
If you're looking to get rid of any paint on your windows and not using solvents or razors, here is an easy and natural method that you could apply to clean paint off of glass:
Fill a plastic or glass container with 1 part water and one teaspoon of vinegar.
Pour this mixture into the microwave and let it heat for 30-40 seconds.
Put a cloth of microfiber in the vinegar that you have heated and press the moist paper against the painted.
After the paint has softened the paint, you can use your cloth to wipe it away.
Use your fingers to scrape away the stubborn paint spots.
Once all the paint has been gone, fully dry the glass and finish by spraying it down and cleaning it with a window cleaner to revive the shine of your windows.

How in the world do you decaffeinate coffee?
Tumblr media
If you’re here, we know you love your coffee! Whether you drink five cups per day or are more of a casual frappuccino drinker, you want and expect the best taste in every sip. I know that, as much as I absolutely love the taste of the best Kona coffee, sometimes it’s too late in the day for caffeine! That’s when I turn to decaf. But I was wondering -- what is decaffeinated coffee?
Decaf coffee was discovered accidentally when a ship full of coffee beans was swamped with seawater, rinsing the beans and removing the caffeine!
As you know, all coffee beans naturally contain caffeine, so how does that get removed in order for us to have delicious decaf coffee? There are a few ways to decaffeinate coffee beans. Each method begins with green coffee beans, before they are roasted into the beautifully aromatic coffee beans and grounds that you buy from us.
Decaffeinated beans are hard to roast, so you do run the risk of decaf coffee being less flavorful than regular coffee, but our premium organic Hawaiian Kona coffee is still the best you’ll find anywhere!
For the direct method, to extract the caffeine from coffee beans, you (don’t try this at home!) must first steam your unroasted beans. You then rinse your beans multiple times with a chemical solvent -- typically ethyl acetate or methylene chloride -- in order to wash the caffeine out of the beans.
If you use the indirect method, your beans and the chemicals never touch. Instead, beans are soaked for hours, and then removed from the water, and then the chemical agent is put into the soaking water to suck up all of the caffeine. After that, the beans are put back into this water -- which tastes like coffee beans! -- to soak their flavors and oils right back up.
Now, don’t fear -- ALL of the solvents evaporate during the roasting process, so you have nothing to worry about when you’re enjoying your afternoon or evening cup of joe. I’ll be taking mine with a big slice of chocolate cake!
The main method for decaffeinating organic coffee beans, the Swiss Water Process, doesn’t use any chemicals at all -- it uses only water and carbon filtration. Hot water is used to extract caffeine and flavors from green coffee beans -- “green coffee extract” -- and then this water goes through a carbon filter which catches large caffeine molecules. The next batch of coffee beans is washed and filtered through this water. This method is the best for helping beans keep their flavors.
One last method uses pressurized carbon dioxide to liquefy and dissolve the caffeine inside the soaked coffee beans! This method changes the taste the least of all of the other methods because the structural carbohydrates and proteins inside the beans stay intact.
All of these methods are equally safe! The decaffeination process removes about 97% of caffeine, meaning that decaf coffee has 2 mg of caffeine, compared to the 95 mg of caffeine in a regular cup!
