      She felt guilty for the position she had been given. It was a good thing, heavy though it was for her. She had not gotten her rank through ambition or greed. She mourned her fallen captain, and wished to carry on his legacy. Ashitaka had ALWAYS admired and appreciated Ukitake the most out of the captains. The man’s morals had been almost aligned with his own. He gave Kuchiki a small smile. ❝ I knew Ukitake for a very long time. ❞ They had been about the same age. ❝ I believe he would feel at ease with entrusting the heart of the division to you. ❞ Ashitaka did not know Kuchiki Rukia personally, but he had known many young Shinigami. he doesn't buy it , but he lets her be for now. between the arranged betrothal and settling into both a new and familiar dynamic of being in the same squad together again since his return, it's a lot to take in. most days, he feels like decisions are being made for him rather than his own. which he feels is nothing like him at all. but, he's always been good at seeing the grander importance, willing to succumb to uncomfortable situations to help the greater good. this --- was doubtfully for the greater good. though, he'd done it anyway.

" eh, a little discombobulated. i know we've been headin' in this direction for a few months now with the preparation and all. but, it still feels like it happened so fast. don't you think so ? "

kaien doesn't expect rukia to bare all her feelings or even delude either of them into thinking they owed each other the same things as other married couples do. but, he didn't want for there to be any loss of respect or honesty between them.

"Hey! You!"

The world almost seemed to move in slow motion for a moment as a figure crashed through the roof of the building, tiles and wooden splattering across the hard floor. Standing in the center of the room was none other than Desmond Hayden, renegade of the Soul Society. His tattered shinigami robes speaking to years of hardships, countless and innumerable fights to the death that had forced him to grow stronger. His face since last seen by her had accumulated more scars, his bare chest holding heavy jagged lines which tore across his flesh. But his eyes, those green irises, still held the same fiery passion she had seen all those years ago- unable to be tamed by man or beast.

"I don't have time to explain, but you have to come with me now."

His baritone seemed deeper, fuller. More confident, assured in his power. He had to be if he was currently busting into her division barracks with no warning, especially as a wanted man. No doubt alerts pinging all across the Seireitei that the wanted man was now within their gasps. It had been years, countless years, since they had seen each other. And now here he was, busting into her office with very little explanation!

"You gotta trust me, Rukia. I know, I know I just up and left. But I had a reason, and.." He struggles for words as the doors of the office are kicked open but numerous shinigami, bearing all manners with ill-intent for Hayden. Without stopping he reaches out to grasp Rukia's arm, pulling her along as he takes off. He'd explain later.

And he knew, she wouldn't fight him. Not yet at least.

With disbelief over how quickly time seemed to have passed, the lieutenant was quick to turn his sights to the wall-mounted clock, and blinked when he saw where the shorter hand rested. Hunger struck Kōtarō just as soon as he realized just how the morning slipped by him, and now he was no longer as absorbed as he was reviewing their subordinates’ field reports for the last month.

Supposed now was as good a time as any to grab a bite, so he relented to Rukia’s request with a nod and a growl from his gut. He pushed his chair back from under him, rose to his feet with a forceful stretch with his arms over his head, and as he made for the open door, he slowed to a stop within the frame.

When he felt his Captain’s puzzled gaze looking into the back of his head, he turned to face her properly... with a cheeky grin on his face.

“Would you want to come with, or are you just going to snack from your secret stash while I’m gone?” Oh yes, Kōta knew full well about the macarons she had hidden in the office.

     That tiny Captain! Every time Nnoitra saw her, he thought she looked like a little rabbit. Her tiny frame and big eyes... Literally the least intimidating person he could imagine ( mah, maybe apart from some of the ones in the 4th ). He had to concentrate not to laugh when thinking about the fact that she was actually a captain. Which meant that YEAH, she was pretty powerful. Nnoitra lifted a hand to greet her. The 11th was not known for their manners, and like hell he was going to bow. She was ( probably ) not pleased to be working with him. It wasn’t often the 11th was pared with the 13th. Nnoitra had to admit that it could’ve been worse. He’d rather work with miniature-Kuchiki than the older version. He had a stick so far up his ass it would be impossible to pull out. ❝ Yo. I look forward ‘ta workin’ with ya. ❞ He said, somehow making it sound like sarcasm. ❝ I heard ya been ‘ta ‘da World ‘a ‘da Livin’ plenty ‘a times. ❞ / @candidaluna​ ,, starter .
