Trek of the 4 Plateaus to Matheran & Panther’s Cave!
RAMBAUG FOREST RAMBLE OF MATHERAN:
This was the route taken down by British officer Hugh Malet, when he first discovered Matheran in 1850. We retraced his steps & it was a kind of self discovery for us. Though described as ‘one of the most gentle routes up Matheran’, the sun made the uphill climb a bit difficult for us even in winter!

1) HOW TO GO?
Trek route: Karjat - vehicle - Pokhardwadi - 1st plateau - trek starts - Dhanwadi - Burujwadi - 2nd plateau - Chowki - 3rd plateau - Rambaug forest is 4th plateau - Rambaug point at Matheran.

2) TIME FRAME:
06:30 Train to Karjat.
08:00 reached Karjat.
08:30 completed breakfast.
09:30 travel in tumtum from Karjat to Pokharwadi & trek started.
14:00 reached Rambaug Point at Matheran.
21:00 home sweet home.
3) EXPERIENCE:

4) EXPENSES:
30/- rickshaw from home to railway station.
60/- return train ticket.
35/- breakfast of misal pav & tea.
30/- tumtum (300/- for 10 passengers from Karjat to Pokharwadi).
20/- tea.
600/- (350/- for 600 gm honey & 250/- for 1 kg crushed groundnut chikki).
30/- rickshaw from railway station to home.
Total = 805/-.
All done in our usual TTMM way!
