Autumnal Shades around Ben Ledi, Trossachs
We caught Autumn at its Best while going up Ben Ledi in the Trossachs National Park. This area of Scotland is really growing on me and I want to explore there more often. For now, enjoy all the beautiful Autumn shades and the light and shadow effect created by the low sun. At the end of our walk the light was failing us and it became harder to capture the colours, but I think you still get a good idea.
Head over to my Youtube channel for a full hiking vlog.

The Brigand Path, Calabria, Italy
An hiking trail of over 100 km in the middle of the Aspromonte Park, rich in history and natural beauty
An extraordinary "Path" in the footsteps of rebels, brigands and fugitives from every era, in an area strongly characterised by identity and authenticity. An unexpected welcome in what, for too long, has been considered as a hostile and impenetrable mountain.
An evocative journey on foot in the Calabrian mountains, from Aspromonte to Serre, through areas of great naturalistic interest, lush forests, rushing torrents, placid streams, waterfalls, alpine and Mediterranean landscapes, rural settlements, noble residences, inhabited centres, architecture, sites of industrial archaeology, evidence of an important, unknown, controversial history, still to be written.

Beech Blight Aphids
What might look like warm weather snow at a distance gets even weirder up close.
The white and fuzzy “boogie-woogie aphids” may be called a blight on beech trees, but they don’t really do the tree much harm.
Their colonies may begin with only a few members but will soon amount to armies of the weird little bugs.  When threatened, perhaps by a bounced branch, they’ll lift their hind ends into the air and wiggle about.  Hence their boogie-woogie reputation.
Look close enough, and you can make out the golden droplets of their honeydew excretions.

These aphids feed on the tree’s sap and produce a sweet liquid which in turn feeds a bizarre, black and spongy fungus.  The creepy fungus soon covers the beech tree’s branches, twigs, and leaves, devouring the sweet nectar produced by the aphids.

Even after the aphids have long gone, it isn’t hard to tell where they’ve been.  The fungus stands out and is a telltale sign the bugs were there.
Again, though, the tree is unharmed as the fungus is only there to feed on the honeydew.
