Some rambling notes on the new Unexpected

I’m trying to come up wth a way to redesign things for the unexpected AU turned original story first things first! Redesigning species! Both humans and trolls will have to be new!

under a cut because this is long rambles about alien biology and evolution of species and society

For the humans I definitely want kinda adorable monkey people. More on this later. Like, ok a few more things, they are excellent climbers, they have long fingers (and have 6 of them), and hand like feet as well. + tails, natch. No claws, can’t have them scratching up people from the inside! You know spiderman? Yeah, they kinda have sticky hands/feet! This makes notJake falling on notKarkat’s face all that more pathetic. They do have massive sharp fangs, like gorillas but total fangs is 6, four on top, tow on bottom. but that aint gonna help you once swallowed. Also, and this is for my reference: their society is kinda now a mimic of the larger pred race, still based on kibbutzim, but now with a in universe reason for why it is like that.

For the “trolls” I really need to reinvent the wheel so I’m not copying.

Obviously I can’t have blood castes but maybe I can draw inspiration to have an interesting blood feature. Im thinking green to blue-ish because I like vulcans and they have green blood. The color (green to blue-ish) mighty depend on elevation of where one lives, or the mineral content of ones diet. But have no other significant meaning. Ok I've decided! It's based on diet, not food though, water/liquid. Neutral or slightly acidic water will result in greenish blood, while more alkaline will result in blue-ish. Because of the high amount of Nickel (ii) nitrate in their blood (see this http://fphoto.photoshelter.com/image/I0000vpoLch6JuUU ) So it's a regional thing and if you travel and the water is different, it will change after a day or two.

There are still “castes” but it’s just based on the social level you were born into. these are very strict, movement between levels is rare and usually people move down as punishment rather than up (which is done by promotion for achievements or rarer, by marriage). once i design the race, there will be racial features that are distinguishable between them, but are not set in stone, it’s just years of not interbreeding.

ONTO THE MORE FUN PART: the vore! how is safe vore possible? Well, im going to use my favorite excuse! Evolutionary Necessitation! There are many ways to do this, but the one Im using is that at some point, long long ago, millions of years back, before society was a thing, the species had to be able to swallow it’s young (always born in a litter) whole to transport/protect them. basically, as infants, they were very small and vulnerable, and weak. At night it gets cold and also they would be exposed to other predators!

Well the timline is like this:

1) small-ish creature, must hide young from larger predators (usually birds)

2) larger, more social creature. now that they they all live and sleep together, there is no worry of infants being carried off. BUT, after so many years of infants being hidden in the stomach, infants are born so small and so vulnerable that the night is too cold! it is deadly and so infants are kept in the stomach at night! In addition, their muscles are very undeveloped, so even during the day it can be necessary to take in the young to be able to run away from threats. Even just young getting tuckered out and need to be transported somewhere. This is INFANTS ONLY. not toddlers, infants.

So, this is basically “if the pred falls asleep, the prey is not in danger of being digested!”

at this point the species is built for speed on the ground. not good at climbing. They are a quadruped!

3) now bipedal but still able to run on all fours, society is starting to evolve

4) society is a thing! equivalent is like, tribes of people, they have clothing! they no longer have to swallow infants and instead some start to wrap them in swaddles

5) the advanced futuristic society of today! Swallowing young is basically not a thing anymore. In fact, to maximize efficiency in society, nobody raises their own young. Before it was a tribal/community effort, but now there are designated Life Bringers, who are chosen as the best for giving birth, are seeded with random (but known) fertilized eggs, and produce the young for society. Life for them is boring, but they are fairly pampered. Those who are chosen to give birth to higher castes are used only for that. very pampered. if you give birth to a defective child you lose your job and become a lowest of the low worker.

Children of the highest caste are raised by their parents (two is the minimum to have a fertilzed egg it an be up to 5. The chromosomes are mixed and divided up evenly somehow to make the correct amount and correct length)

the next few get to know who their parents are, but are raised apart from them by nannies hired by the family in small groups. basically, raised in groups of extended siblings and cousins, with a specially hired teacher to raise them.

getting to the bottom you have no knowledge of who your genetic parents are since their genetic material is more of less demanded so that the working class is sustained. Children are raised in large communities with few adults (basically overseers and supervisors) and robots.

While these castes do interact, everyone knows their fucking place.

[you can see, im trying to keep the children as separated from adults as possible without it being exactly like the trolls]

BUT the trait of being able to hold things in their stomach and not digest them just never left! It’s a trait used by smugglers to smuggle drugs/contraband. So it’s a known trait.

ANYWAYS The premise is still the same. The spacefairing imperialistic species conquered a planet of small but sentient creatures. The planet was rich in culture and resources. The culture was completely done away with, all the inhabitants were killed or captured. The planet is currently being mined for all it’s resources (it has no unique plants or animals, all resources were in metals and the like). The captured small people were brought back to the home planet and just, released there, because it was thought to be amusing.

In addition, of course, they are delicious! Most of the large species will not hesitate to capture and eat a small person if they find one, and more often then not, kill them. They are not hunted, only a few will actively seek them out. It didn’t take long for the small people to reform society and try to avoid the larger species, but it’s very hard since the entire planet is inhabited. It’s still the same as in the original AU.

So that’s my notes so far.

as you can see, i’ve been thinking about this a lot.
