          it wasn’t that grace wasn’t thankful someone was throwing a memorial for their family—they didn’t have the means to do so right now anyway. grace felt like this was forced, there was something off about the situation and they didn’t like it. if grace didn’t want to be here, then she couldn’t imagine anyone else wanted to be here either. while grace had friends, it seemed like the people that she talked to didn’t understand the loss that she’d gone through. they didn’t want people to go through what they were going through now, but at some point, they didn’t really know what else to do or say to make people understand that her grief was normal. what grace didn’t want, was a bunch of people who had barely ever spoken a word to her before, coming up and saying how sorry they were. they wanted answers. still, they had a part to play. “thank you so much for coming.”

“yep, still free,” she answered, nodding her head, “although tips are always appreciated.” she pulled on her bright smile, mina beaming over the bar top at the person before her, forgetting the other guests mingling around for the time being. it was kind of quiet around the bar just then, it seemed most people who wanted them already had drinks, and she had nothing but time. “so what can i get you, then?”

the waves can be heard lapping at not so distant sands as a lone violin plays in the rest of an orchestra without players. and with those first few notes the couples take to the floor. beautiful ladies dressed in white on the arms of gentlemen in black dress robes sweep across the floor, their every turn watched under the hawk-like gazes of dozens of mothers and fathers and aunts and uncles and siblings and cousins.

a staple of wixen society's busy summers for nearing in on three centuries, surviving war and scandal, affairs and political intrigue, the black family's debutante ball, held at the families devon summer estate, is not only an important party for those looking to network, but a symbol of status for all who receive a coveted invitation.

tradition is the foundation of all for those who enter the ballroom, and what was branded as glorified way to cement beneficial matches for only those with the finest blood has not strayed far from it's roots — except now the matches are made between dances, the finest champagne easing the way for intricate politics and favours exchanged, and for a lucky few who are in attendance who escape the ballroom battleground; betrothals already set are announced.

the memorial takes place on the evening of july 23rd, 1977 in character.

while the ball has always been a mixture of pomp and circumstance and political intrigue, details as to who started the cauldron lock-in have been lost to time and copious amounts of alcohol — some recall a disgruntled member of halfblood society whose invite never arrived, others simply a man intent on lifting the spirits of those around him. either way it was one hundred years ago this very night that the doors of the pub swung shut with the wave of a rogue wix's wand, a night of revelry all of their own ahead. and every year since it has been repeated, at first by copycats much to the chagrin of those that ran the cauldron, but now official and supported with the centenary set to be the biggest night yet.

so come one, come all, and celebrate nothing in particular and everything at once while those who deem themselves above you prance in lavish ballrooms — you're sure to have a much better time!

in less one days time, beforedawn will be holding the next and final event before the start of the new school year! the situation is simple: diagon alley has been warned of a raid on j. pippin’s apothecary. the order to vacate the shop was given just three days before. local wix were warned of the raid on august 31st at 7pm, and told to vacate the entire premises or remain safely within their shops during the expected two hour length of it — the rest? well, you'll just have to wait and see!

for this event, we asked muns where their characters would most likely be found. you will find each of your suggested characters within one of these locations, either in a pair or stationed by force of their profession. characters that are not a part of the event (per mun request) will have not been present at any of these locations, and may react to news of it instead (e.g. via self-para, an owl to a friend). more information can be found under the read more, so make sure to have a read!

aurors, hitwix, mediwix and healers will be canonically called into their locations, and must post an open starter to reflect their job.

any character can post and reply to event starters within their location at any time. where they end up and progress throughout the night is entirely up to you, so long as they stay where they are assigned.

holding the raid during a quidditch match was by no means an accident. it seemed perfect — early enough to catch j. pippins before the new school year, but not as busy as the time frame would usually imply. most should be at the game, right? safe and sound and out of the way — by the time the pitch dispersed, they would have their man interrogated, and the prophet would have a news filled day.

it seemed perfect — until the first explosion hit. a blast, screams of shock — shouting and running, the high set stands swaying with the movement . there are no casualties, as far as anyone can tell... at least not yet.

the fire came right from the quidditch field while players were in the air. it's the smoke that gets them — clouds of dust filling up to the air and over the stands, players try to find ground and the crowd dispersing into the nearest exits but meeting a barricade of bodies desperately trying to escape.

and then the walls begin to break. not much, but enough to reroute the building smoke and leave people scattering rather than lined along the rows of the pitch. almost everyone is lost at once in the fumes that still haven't let up, the panic as smothering as the black clouds surrounding them, and suspicions grew.

those were nearly all confirmed when the game finds itself in the crowd. bludgers thrown into stands, the quaffle hovering and dashing about like it's looking for something — someone, anyone, but unrelenting in its task. the common enemy finds itself again — portkey networks are gone, and someone's anti-apparated the pitch. they're stuck, and was... that a glimpse of a hooded figure?

no one seems to know what in the wixen world is going on, but one thing's certain:

the snitch must be somewhere... right?

in summary:

a pre-season friendly match between the wimbourne wasps & ballycastle bats (in the ballycastle home pitch) was held on the same day as the diagon alley raid. part-way through, however, an explosion happened on the field that send debris off over nearly the entire stands.

only minutes after the hogsmeade call-in, another had to be made to cover the quidditch field. the usual department of magical law enforcement team is now split up into thirds with chaos coming from all ends.

everyone’s initial reaction is to apparate, and they soon find they can’t — stadium lights begin to go dark, and nothing but the eerie, setting sun left in the distance remains. some make for the nearest portkeys and floo networks and once again, no word from the ministry at all, save for the scraps of help they could bring in — whether they want to or not, these wix are on their own.

members of the league frantically try and come down for the pitch again, some trying to collect their balls, but find quaffles behaving strangely and bludgers heading for the stands. the snitch is still nowhere to be seen.

the crowds make for exit points, but not all of them are so secure or even open. random watchers and players alike find themselves trapped in changing rooms, broom closets, bathrooms, and even just hallways with ceilings caved-in on either side. 

as much as they may try, your characters are stuck in the arena no matter their efforts otherwise... good luck!

the bell rung slow and heavy for a second time with promises of trouble and turmoil as the news reached the minister that the diagon alley apothecary was clear. but how could it be? the information had been checked, research had been done, and they'd been so sure they would find something... but oh! of course, there was still hogsmeade. what better place to hide your crimes than hogsmeade?

the next course of action was not a plan: it was a grumbled barking of orders despite everyone else's warnings, with no one of enough importance in the room to diffuse the bomb that slipped from harold minchum's lips.

they would raid the hogsmeade shop. no preparation, no warning, no coordination — they would justify the hours and manpower put into this investigation, one way or another.

the bell rung a second time and round two was a go. in a quiet office in the ministry of magic, a pair of tired secretaries added another tally to the parchment titled "minchum versus the world". the world, unsurprisingly, had won every round thus far.

from frantic scurrying to panicked barricades, everyone was trying to hide from the sudden onslaught from the ministry, until the ministry itself went dead quiet, leaving them all to pick up after themselves.

in summary:

after the failed raid that occurred at diagon alley, the minister of magic, harold minchum, was at his wit's end and scurrying to save his reputation. other reputable names were quick to argue that there needs to be strategy before there’s another hit, but harold minchum had convinced himself that the intel he had gotten hadn’t been false. instead, he felt hogsmeade’s branch was the actual culprit of evidence and hastily sent reinforcements there with full force.

with the quick infiltration of aurors and other prominent ministry workers, store owners began to close their shops and encourage everyone roaming the streets to seek refuge. like diagon alley, the raid closed off means of apparition and floo. except this time... no one knew exactly what was happening? was it an attack? were those aligned with the so-called dark lord roaming the streets?

what came next was a village scared for their lives, people pushing each other, children letting go of their mothers' hands, and everyone wondering if they'd see the sunset for the last time as it disappeared behind the outline of old roofs.

for the characters that could be found in hogsmeade during this attack, quick action needed to be taken. all found that apparition and floo directly within the town was impossible. suddenly, everything just went dark, and outside a few call-ins, the ministry itself became missing in action.

many would try and run back into the stores, others trying to make it out to be able to fly or apparate again. some would even end up stuck within pippins, not knowing there’d be a raid at the hogsmeade branch as well. some... would prepare for a fight that weren't yet sure was coming.

were you to ask harold minchum, the plan was flawless.

sleepless nights and secret tips had traveled perfectly into his first big move against the so-called dark forces rising from the shadows: a raid. and not just a simple party raid as they'd tried before, for that, but one on the great julius archibald pippins (oh, what a coincidence that they had gotten on terribly since their days at hogwarts). pippins would finally get dethroned as a potioneer magnate — the information had been solid, and they were ready to move.

for weeks, diagon alley was warned to be prepared for aurors to storm pippin's facilities. students and parents rushed the worn-out cobblestone streets for back-to-school shopping, and store owners ripped their hair out in frustration. but no, no, it was a necessity. a bother, an annoyance, but a necessity indeed.

were you to ask harold minchum, the plan was flawless... but since when was the minister ever right?

all it had taken was one rash decision for it all to crumble — the order to 'go' came an hour too soon. when the auror teams descend upon diagon alley as a united front, the streets had yet to be cleared... and all hell broke loose.

pippins was no longer the only shop affected, and the people around the area were found moving left and right trying to get out of harms way. unfortunately, harm appeared in more than just the panic. the area went dark, and floo network access was gone from all sites. apparition became nonviable and the only thing the people knew for sure, was that they needed to stay calm in whatever way they could.

in summary:

the minister of magic, harold minchum, had been planning for weeks a raid upon j. pippin’s apothecary shop under the intel that pippin was a suspected death eater.

while business owners was made aware of what was happening in the shadows, it didn’t exactly stop business in diagon alley. most shopkeepers had planned to simply lock up about thirty minutes before the supposed raid, while shoppers would simply be encouraged to apparate or floo out as usual.

what was thought a flawless plan always seems to have some cracks, and harold minchum, once again, was outsmarted by those in secret power — the voices in his ear with allegiance with the dark lord managed to make him crack, using this as an opportunity to cause chaos and disorientation among the public. their pressure worked, and the raid call came an hour too soon.

with the sudden early strike on pippin’s shop, panic and fear set in as to what was truly happening, and many people went into hiding with shopkeeps. all found that apparition and floo directly within the town was impossible — it had been part of the plan, to make sure pippin's wouldn't get away... suddenly, communications halted, and outside only a few remaining call-ins. the ministry itself became missing in action.

some chose to go through the back door of the leaky cauldron into an eerily quiet muggle london and as for knockturn alley? it has always been a sense of gloom going down there alone, but compared to the chaos in diagon alley, anything was better.

the shock of the tuft family loss is beginning to settle into acceptance across the wixen world. sunless skies typical of scottish summers see rays starting to creep through cloudy filters, and chief warlock, rodolphus lestrange, sees the perfect opportunity for a proper send-off. hogsmeade burgh hall holds the grieving magical community for a memorial, with every wix and their family receiving the invitation to hear the elected chief warlock lead a toast to the late political strongholds.

it’s with heavy silence after a tight, respectful speech on lestrange’s part that the crowd awaits the extension to a word from grace tuft — the last surviving member of the family at twenty years old. rigidly, the crowd begins to shift into fleeting eyes and lifted brows as grace hints at a further revelation: that maybe the tuft family — what’s left of it — is no longer as neutral in the ever-growing war as was thought.
