@donesurvivin: “aren’t you tired?”
it’s late as she as she takes a stroll with her daughter down the quiet streets of their new ( maybe, temporary ) community, and he’s right, she is tired, but it’s the first time she’s seen her all day, and these are the moments she used to look forward to back home. ❝ i don’t even know what that word means anymore, ❞ she admits, offering him a small smile as she glances down at the baby, resting peacefully in her stroller. ❝ just got off shift a while ago --- wanted to spend some time with her before i called it a night. what about you? out lookin’ for some kind of party? think i heard one a few blocks down. ❞ she’s teasing, her tone almost mocking, because while she’s adapting here easily --- it’s just as strange and uncomfortable for her, too.

she will come : three words written on a wall , and a strangeness hits her . it’s odd to know who exactly the person is referring to . especially when she knows it’s herself ... actually , that just makes it extra weird . mia does not call attention to herself , as there’s a reason for anonymity ( especially in this post - apocalyptic climate . ) she still has enemies —— many of them . she also has gained a small following , at least for her good deeds . make no mistake , the fixer finds that she isn’t prideful about it . it’s all the more of a reason to keep herself at a distance from what she represents —— [ rebellion , courage and strength . ] her eyes shift behind a pair of sunglasses ( yes , she stole someone’s sunglasses ... probably off of a soldier ) and settle on joel . “ we close to the checkpoint yet ? ” she asks , now closing the distance between them . “ we could find a place to take a break . looks like you can use a little rest . ”

“second truck from the left. that’s the fueled up one.” his head peeks over the weathered wall and he scans the parking lot for just a second. a small church, a row of cars and two armed men, fogging up their gasmasks with acrid breaths. one of them says something, his partner hesitates before laughing.
“if you want to this to work, you could distract them while i jack the car.” finally, aiden looks over to the other man. he also seemed fine stealing from a church. in a way, it wouldn’t be a shame if one of them died here. in some cosmic sense, it would be alright. expected even.

“how would sasha describe their friendship with joel?” ↺ @donesurvivin
i think in a lot of ways, joel reminds sasha of tyreese. but he also reminds her of themself. joel is very much in between sasha and tyreese in a way that’s very comforting to sasha without even realizing it, most of the time.
sasha’s big brother has always been the most important person in their life. not just their brother but their protector, their role model, their safety net, their best friend. she’s always looked up to him and always found that she is most herself when standing next to him --- because tyreese never gave sasha the chance to be anything other than themself. he always provided that comfort zone for her that she sought but never knew how to ask for. he knew what sasha needed, most of the time, before they ever knew themself. that doesn’t mean she was always willing to listen / take his advice right away, but his words always stuck with them until they eventually clicked.
tyreese always kept her in check, for good or bad. and i think sasha starts to understand that after he’s gone and when she spends more time with joel. she finds herself stopping herself from doing something that tyreese would have warned them against. sasha looks at joel and hears tyreese’s voice in the back of their head saying “this man is counting on you to be there for him, remember how important you are to someone else.” because sometimes she does forget that --- they’re very well aware of how capable and valuable they are, but putting themself next to someone else and truly understanding that they can be valuable to someone specifically is.... hard for her to comprehend, but tyreese, though he’s gone, does help guide her along.
i think that joel would have been exactly what sasha needed exactly when she needed him. at a time when they were so adamant about not letting anyone else in, yet --- there was some resonation with joel that she found comfort in. because he does remind them of their brother, in the way that joel was so strong and so loving and caring even if he isn’t always outwardly about it. sasha sees the love and care that joel has for his brother, and it makes her feel very comfortable because tyreese was sasha’s best friend. and then she sees the love he has for ellie and that makes her feel comfortable, too.
i think in a lot of ways not only does joel reflect who tyreese was, but there’s a level of comfort and resonation with who sasha is, how they both may not always be so open about how they’re feeling but they can sit down next to each other and just understand that the other is down but doesn’t want / need to talk about it, they just need to be there. so that’s what they do --- they’re just there for each other, and they don’t always have to talk about it, and that’s okay. too many people have tried to force sasha to talk or to dig into how they’re feeling and it makes her feel so uncomfortable in their own skin because often times, sasha would rather act than she would talk. and i think, to some degree, joel can be like that too? which means that maybe, the two of them can catch the other doing it and helping them through it more than they can help themselves, which gives them a really strong balance in their friendship.
sasha is just comfortable around joel, and in their current state after she’s lost her brother, that’s a very difficult feat. they aren’t comfortable around most people once they lost their brother, but joel breaks that barrier because i think he just understands what sasha might need without having to say it out loud and that’s what she clings to. if sasha’s pissed off, she trusts joel enough to talk her down without making it worse, like some people might if they don’t understand her. if sasha’s sad, they can count on joel to just distract them in a way that he would know she needed ( keeping her busy / distracted / doing something productive rather than just sitting with those feelings. )
sasha didn’t want to get close to anyone again after losing tyreese. they’ve lost every good person in their life and they think it’s just easier to be without anyone, so it’s scary to get close to joel, but it also feels so rejuvenating. i do really think there’s a lot of parallels between them ( and perhaps i’ll rewatch someday and note them all because it’s a bit blurry to me ) but i see that being a very big thing of comfort for sasha. joel’s love for his family reminds sasha of tyreese’s love for her, and his demeanor is a very big comfort zone for her because it really matches their own in some ways --- without her even realizing it. that’s why they like being around him, even if it’s not exactly something sasha realizes.
anyway this didn’t answer your question from sasha’s pov, but --- i think sasha would describe it as a friendship that was good for them, a friendship that she always needed and always wanted, though they didn’t realize it until they met him. he’s the only person that she is truly, fully comfortable around because he doesn’t make them feel like they’re wrong for feeling what they feel and he also isn’t forcing her to put on a smile “just because,” like a lot of people she comes across. he feels very real and genuine to sasha and they like that.

@donesurvivin → “to be honest, you scare me.”
she takes it as a compliment --- it’s intentional, keeping everyone at a distance, intimidating them enough to at least know not to get on her bad side. it’s not where they’re forced to remain --- she can be soft, too. she likes to be, when it’s granted, when she’s with the right people. she just hasn’t made her mind up about joel yet. he’s tough to figure out, tough to get to know --- and that much, at least, intrigues her ( are they the same? or worlds apart? ) if there’s one person she knows she can trust, it’s aaron --- and if he vouches for joel, then it’s a little easier for her to have some faith in him.
❝ that your way of suckin’ up? ❞ she checks her bag one last time, ensuring everything’s in place before turning back to him, her eyes studying him for a moment. ❝ just keep up with me out there, and we got no problem. ❞ it comes with a smirk, a way to tell him that she knows he can keep up --- she just wants to see for herself how well he can handle himself.

badly is an adverb .

@donesurvivin → “do you believe in this place?”
there’s no place in the world that alden believes in more than he believes in hilltop --- and it may have been the first real place he saw that seemed to have real life in it, but it was so much more than that. it was in the people there, the way everyone treated each other with respect, with care. it’s the way people smiled easily, not like they were forced, but like they actually had reason to smile. it’s why alden’s decision was made so easily --- before he even ever had a say in where he got to stay.
❝ ain’t a place i believe in more, ❞ he admits, looking up to joel and shaking his head slowly. ❝ more home than my old one ever was. not just before this, i mean . . . y’know. before. ❞ that home hardly felt like a home, and maybe that’s because he had something in hilltop that he hardly ever had before everything: a family. ❝ hard not to, when we got the people here that we do. real proud to be a part of somethin’ like that . . . always what i dreamt of, just never really thought it existed. you’ve been out there a lot, huh? you ever ---- i d’know, find it hard to dig your feet in anywhere? or . . . did y’always know what kinda place you might end up in? ❞

donesurvivin: “Maybe, for now, three bodies are enough.”
Enough. Fucking Enough. As if he had a daily cuota. ‘Only three bodies today m’am, come back tomorrow we might have room for a couple more. How do you want ‘em? Shot in the face? Beaten to death?‘ She laughs at her own thought and the sound edges on hysterical. She’s been standing there since the fight ended, still clutching the revolver in her hand, the heat of the barrel burning through the fabric of her stained jeans. The wall behind her back is a welcome steadiness. Cool, grimy with ancient dirt but it’s still away from the pool of blood lapping towards her in an eerie slow motion. Thick, like blood. That is blood.
“I don’t know man, two to one? I got room for one more,” again that laugh, though at least she manages to keep her voice levelled. “Remind me not to piss you off.”

❝ let’s not say farewell. i’ve had enough of that to last me a dozen winters. ❞ / @donesurvivin
goodbye has always been the hardest part for sasha, always trying so hard to avoid it instead. their brother’s voice is always in the back of her mind, reminding sasha that they’ll regret it if they don’t say goodbye when they do have the chance. he was right, she just wishes she knew that before he was the one who they never got the chance to say goodbye to. but what’s here with joel, this bond they’ve formed with him, is something they’re not willing to see the END in, not willing to let go of yet.
he’s not going to end up like bob, he’s not going to end up like tyreese. it’s like a mantra she repeats to herself over and over again: just this once, this person is here to stay. just this once, they won’t LOSE.
❝ always knew you’d be hard to get rid of. ❞ it’s their attempt at a joke --- something that didn’t used to be so rare, until recently, but it’s a sign that maybe, they’re getting back to their old self --- or something close to it. ❝ m’not going anywhere. neither are you. so i guess it looks like we’re stuck with each other. ❞ for once, that doesn’t sound so bad.
