Weekend Things

Welp. I've gotten some stuff done:

Ep 17 of the Dragel's Song is almost live. It'll probably finish uploading tomorrow.

Got Payhip updated with all the other eps in the meantime -- 13 thru 17, so it's live there.

Updated Ko-Fi shop front for the Season 1 boxed set, but that took longer.

Still have to get some edits done today and the next chapter of his Loyal Shadow, hopefully before tomorrow. lol.

Chapter 7, The Prewett Circle:

Harry wasn’t sure how she did it, but after picking up the pastries and running a few other errands, Sarai managed to have them back in front of the shops—an armor shop, this time—only a few minutes before Gideon and Fabian exited, followed by a scowling Inanna. Her timing was impeccable. 

Sarai clicked her tongue against her teeth. “Most Gheyos would be absolutely thrilled if their Submissives bought them a new set of armor,” she muttered under her breath. 

Harry pretended not to hear the comment. He was sure that Inanna would be pleased eventually, and that she would have a different way of showing it than other Gheyos.

She wasn’t dragel, after all. Her instincts—and his—meant that their emotions and instincts would be portrayed differently sometimes.

Not that she would portray that stuff normally in the first place, even for a Phoelix, Harry felt. Her two most commonly used adjectives for people were “annoying” and “stupid,” after all.

I think I answered this somewhere already but I can’t find the post. Oh well. 😅

Ferros dragels are those who have feral potential. Feral potential is a 5-to-25% increase of raw strength and magical power. It’s a temporary boost but has permanent side effects of toughening scales, and rapid healing. It gives heightened instincts that makes a dragel extremely possessive, protective, and territorial. It has to be triggered, often showing up during a fight and will usually turn the tide in their favor.

Bonded Ferros dragels tend to have their dragel attributes more obviously on display or they may just keep claws, fangs or scales visible at all times. They are quite physically affectionate—requiring extra hugs/cuddles/skin-to-skin contact and often need a routine schedule to keep healthily occupied and content.

Unbonded Ferros dragels can fall into madness much faster than a non-Ferros, as it forces them towards an instinctive edge where they have no one or nothing to protect and forces them further into their instincts. Because of their destructive power, they’re usually called in to use their powers to boost spells/Circles.

It looks like stretch marks on their dragon form, but these marks will glow the same color as their eyes/magic.

Even if they are born with Ferros potential, it isn’t something that is cultivated. But, a 1% Ferros may never even activate or show obviously in their lifetime. Having that doesn’t automatically mean a dragel is able to access or shift into that peak potential at will.

Ferros dragels require at least three Pareya in their Circles and tend to have a higher ratio of Gheyo Jokers because they like to spar.

why is soula´s circle so small and with no gheyo joker?

I don’t think I’ve actually said how many Bonded she has at the end of the story? 🤫 😏

Her circle is the way it is because it suits her best. 😉

But dragel circle sizes depend on the Submissive’s preference and needs to balance their magic. Some are perfectly happy with a triad and maybe one Pareya or Gheyo, while others have more magic and want more ranks or have a specific type of Circle.

Some just hunt slowly or very gradually over decades. Usually, once emotional and magical needs are being met, a dragel rushing for a full circle will stop and rethink that. Some of it is instin and other times, they are hyper aware of whether it’s good for them or their Bonded.

For example, like with Saera, she held together the Suite for Ryder even though she wasn’t bonded to him and it worked, for a little bit. A lot of dragels with family and friend connections might just hover around each other without ever needing to bond and helping to fill in gaps and stuff.

So you’ve said Gheyo queens are I guess flashy? So is there things that kinda indicate the other ranks of Gheyos?

Yep!! There’s a couple of ways.

Queens tend to be the bait/flashier fighter to draw attention so the King or Prince or whoever they are paired with can finish off the opponent.

They are typically the mostly refined/elegant gheyo rank as well and usually the one to aid in a full dress turnout. They serve as an advisor and confidante for the King or Prince. Usually the dressiest of the Suite and proud of it, regardless of element. Also the one that tends to show more skin/scale to draw attention to themselves to allow their Suite to operate smoothly in the background. They usually have two or three skills they can use for entertainment—dancing, target practice, music, etc.

An ACE can always recognize another ACE, even if they aren’t entirely sure what’s caught their attention at first. An ACE has a presence like an Alpha, but with a dangerous/feral edge, with power behind it. An Alpha has tempered power and is more of a subtler aura. They might have a titled blade.

Kings tend to have company. Either their suite or each other and usually can be seen and found by their easy demeanor with their fellow Gheyos. Like an ACE, they are almost always in a Flexi-Suit and are most likely to wear their marks openly. They might have a titled blade.

Jokers almost always have one or more scars that are visible and a weapon or two within easy reach. Their aura is always warning others off and has a feral edge to it. When Bonded into a suite or Circle, that aura becomes deceptively neutral to give them a defensive edge. A Bonded Joker won’t go far without their favored companion/bonded tending to use them as a gauge for their own reactions. They will have a titled weapon of some sort.

Trainees, pages and knights have a uniform they wear so they don’t pick fights that can kill them. Prince and Princess ranks tend to have an obvious piece of jewelry (usually earrings or some other piercing).

So random question I had. Are all the blood titles held by Gheyo ACEs?

And is Isla’s title Blood Wraith or Blood Crown?

Currently yes, but you don’t have to be an ACE to qualify or hold one. You just have better chances, bc an ACE would have all of that extra sparring and practice time drilled into them from their lower ranks. It is a title that can be achieved with a lot of literal work though.

Ilsa is Blood Wraith! I might have typo’d that as Blood Crown in TBDH… 🫢 but it’s usually a reference to their elemental signature spell while holding that title. It’s only possible to cast it while holding the title, bc the elemental casper will assist on behalf of the crown.

Are twins always the same rank?

Are both Bahn’s twins Isla’s? (and who is the third?)

And in the same vein who is the third of Isla’s three?

Lily and Petunia. I know Jun is their bearer, but beyond that are they half sisters? Like different sires/thirds?

Yes. Unless they aren’t blood twins, then yes. They might have slightly different tendencies to a specific rank, but they will be the same. This based on the sharing-a-soul lore I have for dragels, but it gives them a significant boost when combined. While not every twin will share or merge their circle/Bonded, they will keep in contact throughout their lives and their magic will tend to sync and grow mirroring each other.

Yep. This is one of the secondary reasons that Ilsa decides she has to stay. She can’t leave like she did before.

…there’s actually spoilers in there for my Soula Deveraine series, so I’m just going to say we gotta wait to find out. There’s hints. But it’s kinda subtle and you have to look for them. 😏

Yes—different thirds. All Juniper x Briar but different thirds. I think Jasmine was who I had down as Lily’s third, idr Petunia’s.

What would happen if a merrow was soulbonded to a fire type and or fire leaning dragel? I'm kind of imagining those deep sea steam vents that can support life without the sun...

They wouldn’t. 😅 Not to a pure fire element. A fire affinity, yes or a nameless from fire parents, etc. but not from a direct pure fire element. It’s directly opposite of them and while two of them could choose to make a relationship work with a whole lot of work and other elements and adjustments on both sides, magic won’t match them. It’s against their core—too much push & pull.

Now if it’s an affinity or say, a quarter fire type or nameless—yes! That works out fairly alright and does involve living in warmer waters, deep sea steam vents and spicier cuisine. There would be a lot more live lava stones, saunas in the halfling living spaces and more red/silver/black scale combos. They also would have more heat conductive scales.

The key is wet heat. Dry heat can kill. But wet = water + heat and allows for a whole lot more. It also means a Merrow can happily smother their bonded without fear of accidentally drowning them or having to bind/seal aspects of their magic or biology outside of water to survive/not harm their Bonded.
