falling in love at fifteen is almost exactly as taylor swift wrote it to be — god knows how much gyuri wished it wasn't. melancholia became her best friend when she least expected and she welcomed it all at once, probably for the rest of her life. holding the door now and looking directly in the eyes of a storm, she couldn't help her heart from flooding completely. from everyone else around it might be another ordinary night and it could be for her too, maybe, in another life. she laid restless in her bed last night, overthinking every single thing like she would any other night when her boyfriend was away. hearing the sound of her own voice wishing him a good day in the morning, whilst her heart was asking him to stay.

"dylan, it's late." the drive to her house wasn't a hard one, at this point he might even have it engraved in his heart. countless where the days were they hid in her parent's house, making it a sacred place for their relationship. the small hiatus days would always lead gyuri there, in the hopes maybe that she could have the privacy much needed to open her arms to her famous boyfriend on any ordinary night, much like today. she opened the door freely, her fingers tingling from the anticipation to be able to hold him. she did so with cautious, almost nonchalantly and quite naturally, assuring her hand on his arm while pulling him inside. "it's cold too, you shouldn't have come." it was pointless saying any of this, she was glad he had and he knew it.

none of this would have been even been possible if both of them didn't choose the same career path if neither them had the same goals. it was exciting at the same time it was scary, being young and so in love. most days she would even get herself thinking that it might not even be real or ever healthy, loving someone just as much as she loved dylan. gyuri found his hands in hers, right there still by the door, taking both of them to her lips and kissing them tenderly. as if to warm him up too she didn't dare stare at him too long before pulling him into a hug, burying her face on his chest. he was still cold from the outside, she could tell he was in a rush by the sound of his heartbeats going even harder now that they were so close.

still and all, they remained stunned and cozy for what felt like minutes, hours, or even days but mere seconds passed until gyuri shoot her eyes at dylan again. "i love you." every time she said it, it always felt like the first time even though they've been saying it long enough to not even remember when it started. she grinned, her eyes shining brighter than ever, her world feeling complete, holy, evermore. "thank you for coming." — "to me and to my life", she wanted to say but she felt like that was enough commitment for now.

feeling like yourself it's for the people with the luxury of knowing who they are. that's what gyuri told her mom last week. since then it has been a quote she couldn't get over because she maybe realized she doesn't know who she is as well as everyone says they do. that was the reason she asked dylan to meet her in the middle of the week, it was the due date of their training week. the good thing about what they had going on was holding onto each other every other day. it wasn't like their peers, friends, and even teachers didn't know they were dating. everyone seemed to know and the best part was that nobody seemed to give it attention, despite the demanding "be careful, take it easy" advice they got once or twice, nothing else bothered the company. which just leads them to keep their things private and their feelings secure. today, like any other or so she didn't want to spend time anywhere besides home with him today, just the feeling of the old familiarity that his body and presence could give her. gyuri also tried to tell him something important, something that might change their relationship forever.

gyuri opened the door to her boyfriend still in her running clothes, she didn't even have time to shower since she went out for a run after dinner. dylan smiled, hugged, and kissed her because he was so familiar with her routine that if he was lucky she might ask him to help her clean her hair. they might have stayed so long from the door to the stairs just hugging and mumbling about how much they missed each other, even though they saw each other just this morning, had two dancing classes together, and even went out for lunch with friends later. but she knew how hard he was training, how much he was getting on for his dreams. dylan even had afternoon courses, everything well prepared and carefully distributed over the week so he could have the best skills to present as a trainee. he was one of the best, she couldn't contain how proud she was.

"i have something to tell you." still wrapped around his arms and everything, feeling the scent of his body filling her insides with nothing but tranquility. "let's go to my room." she let go of his hug to guide him by the hand to her room in the floor upstairs. gyuri was still one of the trainees that lived with her parents, she knew it wasn't that common. most of them were from other parts of south korea, different parts of the world even and so their families would trusted the company to rent out rooms for them, they had nice apartments to live with other trainees and have tight schedules and disciplines to learn how to live together and so on. gyuri couldn't imagine herself living away from her parents when they were so close and she wasn't even remotely ready to divide her space with strangers. when the proposal came, her parents trusted her with the decision, gyuri was fourteen and she said no, thanks. she admires her friends that do it though and sometimes she even feels left out on a couple of things they share and do just because they get to live together, but she wouldn't trade her privacy and the comfort of her home for it. maybe that was one of the reasons she and dylan could still date, she wouldn't wanna imagine bringing him to a dorm room, she wasn't even allowed to visit his (although she did, a few times).

her room was as you would expect it to be, clean and organized. it had a double comfortable and made bed, a work desk with her notebook, and a lot of her favorite things like her books, diary, and a wood box she got from her sixteen birthday that she kept all of the memories from her relationship with dylan, like the paper from the very first gum he gave her. her wardrobe was the same white color as the walls and there was a full-body mirror next to it that she moved last summer after her she and dylan started having sex, it grossed her the times she would catch herself looking at it while in the act. dylan sat at his usual spot at the edge of the bed, even making friendly eye contact with her buzz lightyear stuffed animal that he gifted her. she closed the door, she knew her parents didn't like it but they didn't mind as much now as they did when they started dating. "look, i wanted you to be the first person to know." gyuri sat next to him, took his hands like she was gonna say the most important news of their life, maybe it was, she wasn't sure yet.

the most nerving part was how dylan was gonna take it. doing it was easy, leaving the company and enrolling in college was way less challenging than telling her boyfriend that they didn't share the same dream anymore. "i want you to know that this is about me and i'm doing this for my future too. a future which i still want you to be a part of, i always will, but just different than the one we were projecting." her freshman history teacher once told her she had a way with words and an endearing way of using them, gyuri needed to use that now to reassure herself that everything was going to be alright. "i don't wanna be an idol anymore." she couldn't even look dylan in the eye, her voice changed and she shakes a little bit but it was all good because she finally had the courage to say it out loud. they stayed in silence for a moment, she wasn't sure how long, but it was short and like one of those decisive moments of your life when you know deep in your heart of something even though you're not quite sure what, he just lifts her chin up and kissed her. it was soothing but passionate, everything that she didn't know she needed. gyuri was sure he was going to say something that would stay forever with her when their lips parted and their eyes meet each other's, but before she could hear his voice she found that part of herself she didn't know existed in those kind eyes.
