watching willy’s wonderland (finally!!!) and i am absolutely loving the 1930s—1950s B-movie horror vibes!!! like the wooden acting and horrid script + the cheap practical effects and prosthetics are all great, but oh my god,, the cinematography n editing are by far my favourite. like the nonsensical camera angles and the shot compositions and the jump cuts and the shot/reverse shots with nic cage vs the animatronics???????? brilliant i loved it so much

#where are my toronto friends #anyone go to tiff midnight madness!? #aka the best part of tiff hands down #(tiff = toronto international film festival; for those who don’t know!!) #midnight madness was/is (???) a program #of specially curated films at the festival #each one debuts at midnight and they’re all like horror/future cult classics #ugh the best <333 the midnight madness crowd was THE BEST #anyway #the point is willy’s wonderland would’ve debuted at midnight madness 100% had it not been the height of covid #i feel like the people who went into this film expecting it to be good or even vaguely coherent entirely missed the point #like it’s so obviously meant to pay homage to golden age b-movies and grindhouse films and early 80s slashers (friday the 13th!!!!) #with the ridiculous gore and so obviously fake prosthetics like it’s just all so perfect #i loved it #if ur a fan of b-movie horror u will love it too #i feel like it’s for a niche audience in that respect #like if you don’t already know the classic conventions of b-movie horror then you won’t understand the appeal of this film yk??? #but anyway i digress #i still recommend it to everyone and anyone #the aesthetics are on point too #like genuinely good #the rest is intentionally bad #which makes it good HAHA #clari chatters #clari chatters film
