Employee evaluations shouldn’t be regarded as a nuisance, that tells the employee that you don’t care about them.
I write my evaluations like a desperate love letter. Like this is the last chance I have to keep you. I want you to cry and feel appreciated. I want you to know what you mean to the team and how your contributions have caused the company success. I want you to know that you’re worth it. I want you to know that without you, I couldn’t be me, as your boss. Essentially, thank you and I love you.
That’s how you do an evaluation.

The psychological effects of employee appreciation at the workplace
The science of ‘appreciation’ is really simple. It has the capacity to change and strengthen the brain in remarkably positive ways. Studies have shown that positive emotions correlate with effective immune system function, which likely affects the ability to fight diseases that can lead to fewer absences and sick days for employees. In this article, we examine the importance of appreciation in the workplace with respect to their impact on employee satisfaction and productivity.
Apart from its positive effects, appreciation in the workplace also promotes psychological safety. Appreciation also influences the attitude of others, as support from superiors and colleagues leads to increased satisfaction in interpersonal relationships at the workplace. A supportive work culture, rooted in the habit of giving appreciation also contributes towards employee well-being – by providing a positive environment for employees who experience mental illness such as depression and anxiety; especially in the current pandemic times.
Can appreciation bring about behavioural change?
Here’s an interesting approach to comprehend the impact of employee appreciation. Consider this, neighbor 1- Alex and family who have a child named Ron, age 8 year old vs neighbor 2- Rahul and family who also have a child named, Rohan, the same age as Ron. They both go to the same school in the vicinity. Alex’s family is focusing on learning and growing the kid and appreciates their son for every little task he does. Be it a small win, they appreciate and celebrate the moment when Ron tries something new even if he is slower at picking up things, their approach is to motivate Ron to complete the task and always be ready to learn something new. On the other hand, Rohan is a bright child with superb creative skills and does amazingly well at school. He is always amongst the top graders, but his family is still not convinced and pushes him to strive to get 100% results. They have stopped all of his extracurricular activities for him to focus on his studies.
As you would agree, the impact of the approach in upbringing on both the children works differently. Ron who is an average kid and a slow learner but appreciated for his work turns out to grow more confident and an enthusiastic learner with a never giving up approach whereas, on the other hand, Rohan despite being a talented kid turns out to be under-confident as he is more focused towards perfection. The non-recognition resulted in him doubting himself even after achieving more.
The same psychology plays out at the workplace where an employee who is never appreciated or recognized for his/her efforts, in turn, doubts his capabilities and may resist trying something new.
So the question to ask ourselves is, how often do we appreciate our employees or colleagues for their efforts?
Appreciation may seem a small thing but often neglected and we don’t try hard enough to make it a habit. A great way to recognize your subordinate or to promote peer-to-peer recognition is to have a centralized social recognition platform like Buzzz that allows you to recognize anyone from anywhere through text, audio and even video messages. The recognition is visible to everyone across the platform in the organization where others can interact by liking and commenting on the post. This tool gives the power to make the recognition more prominent and visible for everyone to see the great efforts put by an employee and also motivate others to achieve more.
Let’s find some ways to express appreciation to those who really should hear about it, as well as some of the benefits of appreciation in the workplace. Here we unpack the psychology behind appreciation by explaining how it works and explore some tips on how to cultivate it not just for ourselves but also for others.
1.    Appreciating changes the giver, not just the receiver
Appreciation is not only about the impact you have on others, but also about yourself. If you take your appreciation seriously, you will see the positive impact it can have on your mental health. Appreciation of the workplace has a huge impact on a person’s happiness and wellbeing. Even when you feel self-conscious, the positive effects of expressing appreciation to an individual can outweigh any passing sense of embarrassment. Expressing appreciation and expressing it in the form of a positive comment, such as a smile, a hug or even a handshake, is a great way to ensure that your appreciation is conveyed e sincerely and genuinely.
2.    It boosts productivity
People who feel valued experience greater self-esteem and thus increase their satisfaction with their work and their ability to contribute to the company. This also has an impact on how employees see their role in their work environment, as those who have received rewards & recognition feel valued and happier in the workplace, which in turn leads to a stronger relationship between employees and the people they work with and feel better about their company. Whether you thank a stranger for holding the door or sending a thank you note, recognizing other people’s contributions can also lead to new opportunities.
3.    Encourage employees to go out of their comfort zone
While appreciating if the giver does not express in a meaningful way and if the receiver does not feel like his/her sense of self-esteem grew, then such an appreciation will become yet another tick box that managers can tick and continue to stay detached from the employees’ performance. Appreciation has the power to infuse confidence that cannot be taken away, as we saw in the Ron and Rohan example above. Appreciation at the workplace not only motivates employees but also encourages them to go out of their comfort zone and they certainly will then try to achieve more.
4.    It boosts team spirit
Appreciation means the world to employees, especially at times when they learn a new task and may make personal sacrifices to get the job done. And sometimes a pat on the back is simply not enough. If you use techniques that encourage the expression of appreciation in the form of gratitude, everyone will feel appreciated and positive, turning daily stress into a daily grin. Providing a culture that encourages appreciation can promote positive mental health and produce happier employees, as demonstrated by the fact that many employees and managers agreed that showing appreciation in the workplace is extremely motivating and boosts team spirit.
5.    Steadily it becomes a habit or culture
You don’t have to be an expert in emotional intelligence to show gratitude and appreciation in the workplace. Before looking at the psychology of recognition of workers, try practicing on a smaller level as it helps to understand some of the proven benefits of appreciation for employees. The saying ‘preach before you teach’ fits well here- before asking your employees to express their gratitude and appreciate their colleague’s efforts, it is important for leaders to practice this by saying thank you for the job done and express how grateful they are to have them in the company. Slowly and steadily you can see it becoming a part of employees’ habit and sooner will be a part of strong work culture.
If you don’t focus on showing appreciation to your employees and only on compensation, chances are they will view your efforts as disingenuous. Simply asking staff how they want to be recognized is a great way to make formal recognition processes more meaningful and personal.
As an organization’s  HR leader or team manager, the most important thing is to find reasons to be grateful and to remain open to appreciate everything, no matter how small it may seem. Even on the worst days, it is gratitude that we find in ourselves to realize that a bad day must come to an end. Offer reassuring and affirming words of appreciation and gratitude to your employees when they deserve it. Whether you write a handwritten note, email or comment, employees know that their hard work is being recognized and that it will make them happier, healthier and more productive. They will do their best to be recognized and know that you are an appreciative employer, even if it is only for a moment.
If you are an employee, you can create your own grassroots movement of gratitude by expressing your appreciation and encouraging your colleagues to do the same.

Employee Appreciation - 1/1 | westallen fanfiction
A/N: Inspired by a tweet I saw. This could be a hidden scene for a fic where Iris is CEO and Barry is her employee who is hopefully in love with her. Let me know if you'd like to see this. If not, this could just be a cute standalone. Enjoy.
...
Synopsis: An unexpected surprise at the office delights no one like Barry Allen, who is smitten for CEO Iris West.
...
Barry shut the door to his car after heaving his briefcase out, then locked it up and headed towards the 3-story office building. He had to scan his card over the device beside the front door to get in, but since he wasn’t juggling anything more than his briefcase and a paper bag lunch, he was able to manage it.
The lights were dimmed low, but as soon as he got to his floor and walked into the main room, the lights lit up across the full stretch of the building.
He was early, as usual, but unexpectedly, a blonde man burst out of CEO Iris West’s office on the far end of the floor seconds later. Barry scooted out of the way of the clearly angry man and avoided eye contact, then looked over his shoulder to see him disappearing into the elevator.
Clutching his things, he made his way down the way the blonde man had come from, since his personal cubicle lay directly across from Ms. West’s corner office and set his things down. Abruptly when he turned to take his lunch bag into the break room, the corner office door slammed shut. He was only aware of it because it had been so loud and was immediately concerned.
More daring than any of his co-workers probably would’ve been, he approached the closed door, intent on knocking when-
“Allen!”
He spun around, greeted by one of his said co-workers.
“David, hi.” He was much older than him but treated him like an equal, which was nice. “What going o-”
“Did you see this?”
Barry’s eyes focused on the flyer David held in his hand. He skimmed it until he landed on the words in the middle of the page.
“She’s giving us free bananas?” he asked, elated.
David seem to take the hint.
“Yeah, one per person, to thank us for our service here at the company. Can you believe that? How about a salary increase? That would be nice.”
Barry frowned.
“It doesn’t say where we’re supposed to get the bananas.” He paused. “Is she giving them out in person?” His heart leapt into his chest.
David paused, realizing perhaps that his equal wasn’t as offended as he was – or at all.
“Doubtful. They’ll probably just be put on the table in the break room.”
Barry pouted.
“Well, then how will she know everyone only took one?”
David’s lips parted, dumbfounded, but no words came out.
The corner office’s door swung open, and Ms. Iris West, pristine as always, appeared in the doorframe.
“Is there a problem, gentlemen?”
“No, not at a-” David tried, but Barry burst out.
“You’re giving us bananas!” He grinned from ear to ear, so much so that it made Iris smile a little too. “That’s awfully nice of you. Will you be giving them out in person?”
Iris found herself lost for words. David muttered something about needing to get back to his desk and excused himself.
“I probably won’t, Mr. Allen.”
“Barry,” he corrected gleefully.
“Barry,” she amended.
“How will you know if everyone only takes one though? Someone might take two, for instance.”
She laughed, and he noticed for the first time that her eyes looked a little watery. He wanted to say something, ask if she was okay, but he held his tongue. That was a personal matter, and they were not friends. Why would she confide in him?
“That’s just a risk I’ll have to take.” She smiled warmly.
“Oh. Right.” He cleared his throat and looked down at his paper lunch bag that he apparently was clutching so hard, his knuckles were turning a bright white. “I should put this away.”
“Mm.”
He darted away from her in the wrong direction, and then spun around, chuckling when he passed her again on his way to the break room. How embarrassing.
Once there, he put his lunch in the fridge after labeling it with his name, so no one would steal it. Content, he turned around, about to head back towards his cubicle when he stopped to see a large empty box and a piece of paper pinned to the wall above it that said BANANAS TODAY in large bold letters.
He grinned and shook his head, and that smile stayed in place all the way back to his cubicle. He sighed happily when he sat in his chair and booted up his computer.
“What’s got you so happy?” another co-worker asked – Patty Spivot – who peeked over the top of the short wall between them.
He shrugged and continued to smile, oblivious to how she couldn’t take her eyes off of him and never really had been able to.
“Bananas.”
Patty looked at him strangely and sat back down on her side. Barry looked over his shoulder at the now closed door again and smiled faintly. His heart raced at the memory of his interaction with CEO Iris West. He hoped they would talk again. It was always the highlight of his day.

I just got this shit in my employee email today. It is, hands down, one of the most condescending things my piece of shit company has ever sent. Employee appreciation? Fuck you.
Been working here for five years without a fucking raise, you cunts. And the Dir. of HR, and supposedly the GM and Ass GM both don't believe in giving part timers raises. Ever. Like, the people who are here to carry the load of the work in this shitty company, the people the execs love to throw under the bus for their failures, the people who make significantly less aren't allowed to get raises? And they took part timers work from home privileges away. Yea. I hope every one of these people's homes burn to the ground.

Tips on Showing Appreciation to Your Employees
Tumblr media
In the ever-evolving landscape of business, one thing remains constant – the importance of showing appreciation to your employees. Acknowledging the hard work and dedication that your team members showcase can significantly boost morale, productivity, and overall job satisfaction. After all, employees who feel valued are more likely to go above and beyond for their organizations. Here are some invaluable tips to help you demonstrate your appreciation to your employees.
Personalized Recognition: Generic recognition can feel insincere. Instead, take the time to personalize your appreciation. This could mean acknowledging a specific achievement, sharing a handwritten note, or even remembering an employee’s birthday. These small gestures show that you care about them as individuals.
Regular Feedback: Constructive feedback is crucial for growth, but don’t forget to offer praise for a job well done. Providing regular feedback that highlights an employee’s accomplishments and contributions fosters a culture of recognition within your organization.
Public Acknowledgment: Public acknowledgment can be a powerful motivator. Use meetings, newsletters, or even social media to celebrate an employee’s achievements. It not only boosts the recognized employee’s morale but also inspires others to excel.
Flexible Work Arrangements: Offering flexibility in work arrangements, such as remote work options or flexible hours, can show that you understand and value the diverse needs of your employees. This can significantly improve work-life balance and job satisfaction.
Professional Development Opportunities: Support your employees’ growth by investing in their professional development. Encourage them to attend workshops seminars, or pursue further education. When employees see that you’re committed to their long-term success, they’ll be more motivated and engaged in their current roles.
Team Building Activities: Organize team-building activities to foster a sense of camaraderie and appreciation within your workforce. These events not only help employees bond but also provide a break from the daily grind, leading to increased job satisfaction.
Surprise Rewards: Unexpected rewards, such as bonuses, gift cards, or small tokens of appreciation, can go a long way. They convey that you’re paying attention to your employees’ efforts and are willing to reward them for their hard work.
Employee of the Month Programs: Recognizing outstanding employees through a formal “Employee of the Month” program can boost motivation and morale. It’s a clear way to highlight and appreciate the top performers in your organization.
Listen Actively: Show your appreciation by listening to your employees. Encourage open communication and actively seek their feedback. This demonstrates that you value their opinions and are open to making improvements based on their input.
Create a Positive Work Environment: A positive work environment, characterized by respect, open communication, and a strong sense of community, can be one of the most significant forms of appreciation. When employees enjoy coming to work, they’re more likely to feel valued and appreciated.
Mentorship Opportunities: Offer mentorship programs within your organization. Experienced employees can provide valuable guidance and support to less experienced colleagues, creating a culture of learning and appreciation.
Celebrate Milestones: Recognize and celebrate employee milestones, such as work anniversaries. This not only shows appreciation but also encourages loyalty and commitment.
Showing appreciation to your employees is not just a nicety but a strategic move to improve productivity, job satisfaction, and retention. These tips are just the beginning – the key is to be genuine and consistent in your efforts. Remember, a motivated and appreciated workforce is more likely to help your organization reach new heights.

Strategic Employee Benefits: Retain Talent, Drive Success
In today's competitive job market, organizations must go beyond salary to attract and retain top talent. Strategic employee benefits have emerged as a key component of talent retention and overall business success. In this blog, we will explore the importance of designing comprehensive employee benefits packages that cater to the needs of employees while aligning with the company's goals. From work-from-home benefits to employee perks and packages, we will discuss how strategic employee benefits can enhance job satisfaction, loyalty, and productivity, ultimately driving the success of the organization.
Tumblr media
Understanding the Value of Employee Benefits:
Employee benefits play a vital role in attracting and retaining talent. Beyond financial compensation, employees seek work-from-home benefits, employee perks, and comprehensive packages that address their needs. These benefits enhance job satisfaction and foster a positive work culture. By offering a range of employee benefits, organizations demonstrate their commitment to employee well-being, leading to increased loyalty and productivity.
Designing Comprehensive Employee Benefits Packages:
Creating effective employee benefits packages requires a thorough understanding of employee needs and preferences. Beyond traditional benefits like healthcare and retirement plans, organizations should consider incorporating work-from-home options, flexible schedules, and wellness programs. Tailoring packages to suit diverse employee requirements ensures a competitive edge in attracting and retaining talent. Companies should regularly assess their benefits offerings to ensure they align with industry trends and remain appealing to employees.
Enhancing Work-Life Balance and Employee Perks:
Work-from-home benefits and flexible work arrangements have become increasingly important for employees seeking a better work-life balance. Organizations can offer remote work options, flexible hours, and family-friendly policies to accommodate diverse needs. Additionally, employee perks such as gym memberships, wellness initiatives, and professional development opportunities contribute to overall job satisfaction. By providing a supportive work environment and valuable perks, companies create an attractive employee benefits package that promotes engagement and retention.
Tumblr media
Communicating and Promoting Employee Benefits:
Effectively communicating and promoting employee benefits is essential to ensure employees fully understand and utilize the offerings. Companies should create clear and accessible information about benefits packages, including how to access and maximize them. Regular communication through employee portals, newsletters, and workshops can keep employees informed about the available benefits. Employers can also leverage technology platforms to streamline benefits management and provide easy access to relevant resources.
Conclusion:
Strategic employee benefits are crucial for retaining top talent and driving overall business success. By understanding employee needs and preferences, organizations can design comprehensive benefits packages that enhance job satisfaction, promote work-life balance, and provide valuable perks. Effective communication and promotion of these benefits ensure employees fully utilize and appreciate the offerings, fostering a positive work environment and contributing to the organization's long-term success.
Incorporating work-from-home benefits, employee perks and benefits, comprehensive packages, and corporate employee benefits will enable organizations to build a compelling employee benefits program that attracts and retains talented individuals while driving overall success.
