✨Summer in the Garden ✨ 🌺🌼🌴🌲🌫 Dahlia is a small genus with approximately 40 species and is a member of the Asteraceae family. Dahlias are native throughout Mexico, Central America, and Colombia. Dahlias have been cultivated for centuries, notably by the Aztecs who ate the tubers, which are still used in some Oaxacan cuisine. Today, though, Dahlias are more popular as ornamental plants and there are over 50,000 registered cultivars. The dahlia is San Francisco's official flower. The Dahlia Garden located next to our friends at @conservatoryofflowers here in Golden Gate Park is in bloom now, too. These Dahlia pinnata and Dahlia coccinea are located on the northern edge of the Dwarf Conifer Pond in an area transitioning to a new sunny Mesoamerican collection extension. ☀️ More fun summer highlights to see now: • Lilium ‘Lavon’ in Garden of Fragrance • California Native Plant Garden summer specials—coyote mint, sticky monkey flower, and lizard tail (Monardella villosa, Diplacus aurantiacus, Eriophyllum staechadifolium) • Erica with friends and Berkheya purpurea in South Africa Garden • Nikau palm (Rhopalostylis sapida) grove in New Zealand Garden • More lilies and textures in the Zellerbach Garden of Perennials • Albino redwood sprouts in the Redwood Grove • #TraveltheWorldin55Acres #SFBotanicalGarden #Dahlia #Lily #CANativePlants #SouthAfricanPlants #NewZealandPlants #NikauPalm #AlbinoRedwood #Redwoods #WorldEmojiDay (at San Francisco Botanical Garden) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRcI_u9NCeQ/?utm_medium=tumblr
