The last in the sequence of this beautiful African Hawk eagle taking off from a waterhole where we were locked a battle of will with body, camera and eagle to see who would cave first. See my story board for the 4 shots caught as the African hawk eagle caved first and flew off. #africanhawkeagle #africanhawkeagles #eagleinflight #eaglephotography #escimage (at Ingwelala) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxjRMSVg3SH/?igshid=9s6w9xt5ges1

All baby elephants are born blind, but they can stand up almost immediately. Elephant are highly sensitive and caring animals. If a baby elephant complains, the entire family will go over to touch and caress it to soothe the baby. #elephant🐘 #babyelephants #elephantphotography #elephantphotos #escimage (at Mashatu Game Reserve) https://www.instagram.com/j.p.visee/p/BxMKb_Gg4Ho/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1gk92criy3d9g

For the most part White rhinos are solitary animals and like to avoid each other. But White rhino may live in a group called ‘crash’, which will be made up of a female and her calves. Although they are solitary animals they do spend a lot of time with Oxpeckers, which keep them free from pesky parasitic insects living on their thick skin. #whiterhino #whiterhinos #babywhiterhino #whiterhinophotography #escimage (at Ingwelala) https://www.instagram.com/j.p.visee/p/BxBxLcohhAX/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=11vsuv4s3jlcp

The Crimson-breasted shrike was first collected by William John Burchell in 1811 near the confluence of the Vaal and Orange rivers. He named them atrococcineus meaning ‘black/red’, finding the colour combination quite remarkable. The shrikes generic name Laniarius was coined by the French ornithologist Louis Jean-Pierre Vieillot and was meant to call attention to the butcher like habits of shrikes. #crimsonbreastedshrike #shrike #shrikes #shrikebird #escimage (at Pilanesberg National Park) https://www.instagram.com/j.p.visee/p/BwyQ4W0AKqE/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1ujmb5qf00o6s

Baboons live in groups called troops. The troop is generally made of about 8 males and twice as many females and their offspring. Dominance of the troop is decided via fights between the males with the strongest leading. The females in the troop are responsible for deciding if newcomers can join the troop. Baboons use 30 different sounds to communicate. They are able to grunt, scream and bark. Besides vocalisation, baboons can yawn, smack their lips or shrug their shoulders to communicate. #baboon #baboons #baboonphotography #baboonphoto #escimage (at Mashatu Game Reserve) https://www.instagram.com/j.p.visee/p/BwvwHdPg6pU/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=lj5knrgkmka7

Even though the female Saddle-billed stork is slightly smaller then the male. The only accurate way to tell the difference is the female has yellow eyes while the male has dark brown eyes. Saddle-billed storks were significant in Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs dating back as far 6,000 years ago. The Saddle-billed stork was used to represent the letters ”ba” and the Egyptian Pharaoh, Khaba, used this stork in the hieroglyph depicting his name. #saddlebilledstork #saddlebilledstorks #saddlebilled #stork #escimage (at Ingwelala) https://www.instagram.com/j.p.visee/p/BwtHiDeAPmX/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=64v5408leomn

Blue waxbills generally build their nests in the foliage of an umbrella tree or sickle bush. The nest is oval in shape with a short entrance tunnel on the side. The nest is made up of grass stems and inflorescences and lined with feathers. They often choose to build the nest near the nest of a wasp, but there is no evidence that the wasp deters nest predators. Main reason seems to be that the wasp nest deters arboreal ants from nesting in the tree. #bluewaxbill #bluewaxbills #waxbill #waxbills #escimage (at Ingwelala) https://www.instagram.com/j.p.visee/p/BwqmUrsg9c3/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=6w3i2g3xmj19

One of my favourite areas of wildlife photography is catching birds in flight. I especially love when you come across eagles that are drinking at water holes. As you get a whole new perspective in your photo being at ground level with them as they take off. Just wish it had been a still day so the reflection could have been clearer. But this gives another reason to keep chasing that perfect shot. #africanhawkeagle #eagleinflight #raptors_only #wildeagles #escimage (at Ingwelala) https://www.instagram.com/j.p.visee/p/BwoDEyKBN_f/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=aqz45b3l26lg

When food is plentiful lions will gorge themselves into a food coma. On days like these they can consume anywhere up 15% of their body weight in food. No wonder when they need to take a food nap they will pretty much nap anywhere even if it’s on the carcass of the animal they are eating. #lioneating #lionsleeping #lionpride #lionphotography #escimage (at Ingwelala) https://www.instagram.com/j.p.visee/p/Bwdz-tQgm4D/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1q7abwr5sm7td

The Small-spotted genet is a cat-like carnivore common throughout Africa. Nocturnal, shy and secretive, this slender small-spotted gent features black marks on the face, which makes it look as though it is wearing a mask. Like cats, Small-spotted genets have retractable claws and thus are able to climb trees. They are known to share communal latrines with civets, some mongoose species and other genets. #smallspottedgenet #genet #spottedgenet #commongenet #escimage (at Ingwelala) https://www.instagram.com/j.p.visee/p/Bwbp-5WBQOx/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=h2druopyo4cl

White-Crested Helmetshrike are quite interesting for the fact that they are cooperative breeders, with an “alpha pair” in the group bonding for life. The “chosen” pair gets to choose the nest site, but all group participants get to look after the nest site. The nest site is made up of bark and held together with spider web. This is where their tufted foreheads, after which they are named come into play. As not only does it give them a comical appearance, but they also serve as a great means of collecting spider webs. #whitecrestedhelmetshrike #whitehelmetshrike #shrikes #shrikebird #escimage (at Ingwelala) https://www.instagram.com/j.p.visee/p/Bvf1EqFAQiS/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=grcb76luzxfq

The beauty of a female Impala up close and personal while drinking, her reflection caught by her side. Fills one with complete wonder to how majestical this exquisite rock we call Earth really is. I am truly grateful and humbled that I have been given such opportunities to experience nature in the way I have. The memories and experiences that live with me on a daily basis, keep me grounded with a deep sense of appreciation for all that surrounds me. I thank you Mother Nature. #impaladrinking #femaleimpala #impalaphoto #impalaphotography #escimage (at Mashatu Game Reserve) https://www.instagram.com/j.p.visee/p/BvdV_22gc7P/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1aavag4r0nnev

There is something magical experiencing a herd of elephants swimming and playing around a water hole. I find myself sitting for hours with camera in hand enjoying the experience. Something so soul rewarding about the moment. Some little know facts about elephants and swimming. Elephants are the only animals with a built in snorkel (their trunk). Elephants are strong swimmers and have been recorded swimming up to 50 km across water. They can swim for six hours continuously without rest. #elephantsswimming #elephantsdrinking #swimmingelephants #elephantphotography #escimage (at Ingwelala) https://www.instagram.com/j.p.visee/p/BvYMNZpA34u/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1h7bf2cxt3k2a
