"Such a pleasant day. Spring is quite beautiful. If I get done early, I'll spend some time in the garden with Ethan," Aru thought as she walked towards her office for a meeting with the diagnostic team.

When she reached her office, she felt her throat itch and a bit sore. Fortunately, she had a few lozenges in her bag, and she popped one in her mouth before the meeting, not thinking much of it.

The following morning, at 3:00 am, Aru woke up with a blocked nose, headache, and cough.

Ethan, a light sleeper, also woke up when he heard Aru groan while trying her best to get some rest but failing, as was evident by her constant turning.

He took a minute to realise what was happening and made a cup of tea to soothe her.

"Ethan, could you please sleep in the guest room? Or let me go there? I don't want to get you infected because of me," Aru said while sipping some warm tea. 

"No, honey. I'm not going to do that. I want to look after you, okay? I know how you are and that you won't look after yourself. So, let me take care of you", he replied while rummaging in their medicine kit for a Tylenol. Aru eagerly took the pill from Ethan when he found it, hoping to get some relief.

The next day, she woke up quite later than usual and panicked that she would get late for work. Just when she started to rush to get ready, Ethan chimed in, "Aru, I have requested a holiday for both of us cause you are sick and I don't want others to get infected, especially your patients. I'll stay at home for today to take care of you, my love."

"That’s very sweet of you, Ethan, but I will be fine in a day or two, I don't want you to ignore your work."

"I'm not ignoring my work by looking after you, Aru. In fact, I'm doing both."

"Okay, love, thanks a lot for taking care of me."

A while later, Aru sat down with her blanket in front of the TV while Ethan made her favourite tomato soup and watched her comfort movies, Welcome and Om Shanti Om.

After finishing her delicious soup, she went to gargle with warm salt water and a quick bath under instructions from Ethan while he made her favourite comfort food.

When she came back, Ethan gave her a cup of kadha, whose recipe he had procured from her mom on a visit.

Ethan then checked her temperature because he found her hands and forehead cold.

He realised she had a fever, so he got her some Tylenol and asked her to rest until lunch.

She protested, saying, "It's just a little fever, I'm fine. There's no need for medicine. Let my body fight it out."

"Aru, my love, you have a fever. I want you to get better as soon as possible, which won't happen if you don't take your medicine," he said.

"Okay....if you get well soon, we'll go out to eat some chaat," Ethan continued when he got no response from Aru.

"E, are you trying to bribe me? Because this is new stuff. I have only seen you do this to little kids when they don't listen."

"Well, I have to find a way for you to ingest your meds."

"You know it's nothing major, right? I'll be fine in a few hours even without the pill."

"I know that, honey. But I can't bear to see you like this, even if it is a minor thing."

"Ethan! This is nothing to worry about, and the doctor in you knows that."

"I know that very well, my darling."

"Then why are you worrying?"

"Because I hate to see you like this, in pain! I love you, Aru, and this is too much for me to bear."

On hearing this, she could barely contain his happiness and moved to kiss him, but she suddenly moved away.

"Ethan, I don't want to infect you."

"Sorry, Aru, I understand," he said, as planted a soft and assuring kiss on her forehead, "come on, let's eat Rajma Chawal."

At the end of her long and tiring shift, Arundhati went to meet Ethan eagerly, anticipating a chance to unwind and relax.

As she entered his office, she heard Ethan ask his assistant to check if any other work was left for the day.

As Arundhati peeked inside, she noticed Ethan's face light up with a smile, filling the room with warm and welcoming energy.

His assistant noticed his smile and looked at the door, already knowing who it was.

They bid goodnight to the staff on their shifts and headed to Donahues to unwind.

They ordered their usual drinks and went to get seats to enjoy their time together.

While getting to her seat, Aru bumped into someone.

"I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention. I hope you didn't get hurt......, "Aru trailed as she recognized the person she bumped into.

"Mridula......" Aru paused for a while and felt her throat become dry. 

"Hi Aru, how are you? I didn't expect to see you here. It's been so long since we last met!"

"Hey, Mridula..." Aru managed to say after a few seconds, which felt like a lifetime to her. 

Fortunately, the drinks she had ordered earlier came to her rescue, and she took a few sips to calm down.

At that point, Ethan's phone rang and displayed a call from his dad.

"Excuse me please, ladies, I'll be back in a moment. I have a call to attend," Ethan mentioned. 

"Aru, it's from my dad. I'll speak to him and come back as soon as possible," he said as he went outside to attend his call, away from the songs being played loudly.

"Sure, love, no problem," Aru replied before she continued her conversation with Mridula, "I'm good, thanks. Yeah, I know, it's been way too long. By the way, what brings you here all of a sudden?"

"I was in the area to meet a client, and our meeting ended early, so I decided to come here to wind down."

"That's great, how's your business going?"

"It's going great, thanks, Aru. How about you? How's everything? Do you get along with the leader of the Diagnostic Team?"

"Well, I'm doing great. I have been promoted to the leader of the Diagnostic Team."

"Wow, that's great news! When did it happen?"

"About a year ago, the chief retired, and he appointed Dr. Ethan Ramsey as the chief. Dr. Ramsey then appointed me as the leader of the Diagnostic Team."

"That's great! Congratulations, Aru!"

"Thanks a lot. Why don't you sit down?"

"Sure, so how are you finding the leadership of the DT?"

"Oh, it's been nice, a bit stressful, but I enjoy it as it challenges me and helps me improve."

"That's really cool. I wish you all the success in life."

"Thanks a lot, Mridula, that's extremely kind of you."

"Can I ask a question floating in my mind?"

"Yeah," Aru replied as she sipped her drink.

At that exact moment, Ethan entered inside, searching for Aru, reflecting on his chat with his dad. He heard a question as he made his way through the bar back to Aru.

"Are you dating Dr Ramsey?"

"Yeah, we have been dating for a few months now."

"That's so cute! I remember when you were dying to meet him."

"Yeah, I remember that was a long time ago."

"You had poured over all of his books so many times! You had learned every word of his books. I'm completely sure that you still remember all of it. Does he know this about you?"

"Do I know what about her, miss?" Ethan asked Mridula as he approached the table.

"Oh, sorry, I forgot to introduce you to each other. Mridula, this is Dr. Ethan Ramsey, chief of Edenbrook. Ethan, this is Mridula, a wedding planner and a good friend."

"Nice to meet you, Mridula," Ethan replied as he shook her hand.

"Aru, come on, girl. I have to get going."

"No, no, please sit down for a bit more. I want to catch up with you. Please, Mridula", Aru said while holding her elbow to stop her from leaving.

"Fine, if you say so." 

"Aru, you can chat with your friend. I'll get going."

"No, Ethan, please, stay here for some while," Aru said while pouting at him, which she knew he couldn't refuse.

Aru continued her conversation with Mridula while Ethan sat down.

"Mri, what happened to the couple that only got married because their parents found out about them?"

"They stayed married only for about three years. You won't believe it, but they quarrelled so much that their parents had to beg them to get divorced", she giggled while slurping her drink.

"So, Mridula, how do you know Aru?"

"Ethan, I'll be back in a few minutes, okay?" Aru said as she thought of escaping from the problem for a while. Aru started hyperventilating because she dreaded what would happen once Ethan knew about her. 

"I should go to the restroom and leave from the back door," Aru thought as she got up.

"Come back soon, my love," Ethan replied.

"We dated for four years when Aru was in medical school and broke up a few weeks after she got into Edenbrook," Mridula continued.

"Oh. It's good to see that you are such good friends even now."

"Yeah, you could say that...," replied Mridula. 

"You know, Aru was so obsessed with reading your books that I started feeling jealous of you," Mridula said, trying to change the topic.

Meanwhile, Aru was in the toilet pacing nervously, worried about how Ethan would react. She knew Mridula very well and knew that she would tell Ethan about their relationship. She hadn't come out to him yet and was afraid of his reaction and thoughts about her and their relationship.

However, no matter how she felt about the situation, she knew she couldn't break Ethan's trust by leaving him alone and vanishing.

So, she returned to join them despite the anxiety and discomfort she felt with each step she took toward Ethan.

Meanwhile, Ethan and Mridula were chatting pleasantly, and Aru felt a sense of relief when she saw Ethan as she made her way to him. Seeing him made her feel calm and reduced her anxiety, and she knew that he would support her no matter what.

"Aru, it was fun catching up with you after a long time, but I have to get going now. I have a meeting with a client early tomorrow."

"See you soon, Mridula. I hope we get to meet again soon enough," Aru said, trying her best not to burst into tears.

"Yeah, it was good to meet you," Ethan replied.

Aru tried her best to control her emotions, worried about their relationship and what Ethan would think about her.

When they reached their place, Aru ignored Ethan and went straight to the bathroom to clean up. Despite her best efforts, she started sobbing quite loudly, which caught Ethan's attention.

"Love, what happened, why are you crying?" he asked, to which he got no response.

Concerned about her silence, he asked again, "Aru, can I come inside, please?"

To Ethan's relief, she opened the door, letting him in. His heart sank when he saw her, teary-eyed and trembling.

"Aru, is everything alri-?"

Before Ethan could finish what he was saying, Aru left the bathroom, trying to distance herself from Ethan as much as possible.

"Aru, please, don't do this! Please talk to me. Did I do something wrong, Aru? Are you upset with me? Please, love, I can't see you like this", he begged, not understanding the sudden shift in her behaviour.

At that moment, she realised what a grave mistake she was making. She then let Ethan in, prepared for anything that Ethan had to say.

Ethan rushed to comfort her, unable to understand why her behaviour changed so drastically in such a short amount of time. 

"Cry all you want, Aru, but please don't estrange me from you. You know how much it hurts me."

Arundhati, unable to speak, just nodded and hugged Ethan tighter.

After a few minutes of comforting Aru, Ethan decided to make a cup of coffee for her, hoping it would help her relax.

"Do you feel comfortable telling me what happened?"

"E.... Ethan..please promise me you won't leave me."

"Why do you think I would do that?"

"Did Mridula tell you we were dating?"

"Yes, she did...... wait a minute...Aru, did you think I would leave you because of your sexuality?"

"Y.....yes. I didn't know how you would react, Ethan."

"So, you assumed that I would break up with you? You know me well, don't you?"

"Yes...I do. I'm sorry for assuming so, Ethan. Is this going to cause a problem between us?" she whispered, afraid of what was to come.

"Not at all, love. I intend to marry you, you know. Nothing you say would deter me."

"Not even that I'm already married?" she smiled weakly.

"Not even that", he joked back. "In all seriousness, Aru, I love you just the way you are, for who you are and what you do. So, no, your sexuality won't cause a problem between us. You don't have to come out until you feel comfortable," he said before kissing her forehead gently.

Arundhati breathed a sigh of relief.

"I'm so glad. Thanks, Ethan. But I do want to come out to you."

Arundhati took a deep breath to calm her nerves and proclaimed, "I, Arundhati Kulkarni, am bisexual."

She burst into happy tears, realising she could finally stop worrying about not revealing her true self to Ethan.

"I'm glad you feel much better now. Come on, let's get some sleep. You have an early shift tomorrow."

"I'll just clean up and be back."

While cleaning up, Aru could only think about how better the world would be for queer people if everyone was as understanding as Ethan.

As she sunk into her bed, hugged Ethan, and closed her eyes, she silently thanked the universe for Ethan being such a supportive partner.

After Sienna's recommendation, Aru headed to the store to buy her dress. She was excited to surprise Ethan with a fancy date as he was always the one to do so.

Ever since she told Ethan about their date, he had been curious about the plan.

Aru had kept him in the dark about everything, just asking him to wear an elegant suit and meet her in the parking lot.

Ethan knew it was futile to get more information from Aru, so he agreed to meet her in the parking lot after her shift without asking for more details.

Aru was glad he did not ask for more particulars, as she knew she couldn't lie.

Ethan was delighted to see Aru walking towards him. Even after being with her for over a year, his heart still beat wildly whenever she was near him. She was like a magician who had cast an enchanting spell on him.

When Aru met him, he immediately pulled her in for a hug and gave her a quick peck on the lips.

"Mmm. You give me such warm hugs, Ethan."

"You look wonderful, love. Have you bought this dress recently?" asked Ethan, being observant as always.

"Yes indeed. I got it today. How do I look in this dress?"

"Aru, I absolutely love how gorgeous you look right now. You look absolutely divine and ethereal, darling."

"Aww, thanks, babe," Aru said, blushing. "You always know how to express yourself beautifully."

"Thanks, love. So, where are we off to?"

"Ma Maison," Aru said, as a matter of fact.

"Ma Maison?!" Ethan said, shocked. "Babe, that's a high-end restaurant. Why are we headed there? Is today a special day?"

"No, babe. It's nothing like that at all. I just wanted to take you to a fancy place for our date."

"Aru, you don't need to spend that much on me. You know I would be happy even if we had a lazy date and ordered takeout, right?"

"Ethan, you pamper me by taking me to elegant places all the time, don't you?"

"Yes, I do."

"Then, don't you think you deserve to be pampered as well?"

"That's true. How do you end up amazing me every time, love?"

"Babe, that's a secret I'll never tell you."

"But Aru, you will let me pay the bill, alright?"

"No, Ethan. I want to treat you today, okay? And that includes me paying the bill."

"Yes, my love. As you say," Ethan said, with a twinkle in his eyes. He hadn't expected Aru to surprise him with a date to Ma Maison.

Ethan was in for more surprises as he received a bouquet of orchids, his favourite flowers and a bottle of good quality expensive blended scotch whiskey.

Out of all the women he had been with, only Aru had taken him on a date and presented him with gifts close to his heart.

He was pleasantly surprised by Aru's plans and thoroughly enjoyed his evening.

In late January, Arundhati and her family were invited to attend her distant relative, Radhika's wedding in Mumbai in March. Their grandmothers were close friends, so Aru and Sahil spent a lot of time with Radhika during their holidays when they were young.

They kept in touch even when Aru and her family moved to Boston and basically were like cousins. Naturally, she called them at her wedding, wanting them to participate in her happiness.

Radhika's fiance, Nikhil, knew Ethan since their work in the Amazon and had bonded well with him and became his good friend, who was still in contact with Ethan. As a result, Nikhil invited him to his wedding.

"Ethan, I wanted to let you know that I won't be able to come into the hospital for the first week of March. I have to go to Mumbai to attend my relative Radhika's wedding", Aru told him. 

"That's fine, but make sure to submit an application. Just so I can note it down officially so that no one reprimands you later."

"Got it. I will mail you the application in a day or two."

"Great. By the way, you know Nikhil, right? He's also getting married in Mumbai during the first week of March."

"That's great, maybe we could go together if it is around Radhika's wedding. Who is he getting married to?"

"His fiancee," Ethan looked at the e-invite on his phone before continuing, "Radhika Deshpande, who is a statistician."

"Wait, what?" questioned a shell-shocked Aru.

"Aru, what's wrong?" Ethan asked when he saw her too stunned to speak.

"Aru, come sit down and have some water. Whatever it is, we will face it together," Ethan said while helping her sit down and bringing her a glass of water.

"Thanks. Can I see the e-invite, please?" She asked, after managing to recover her speech.

"Sure, here you go", he said, handing her the phone but not understanding why.

Aru quickly took out her phone to compare the e-invites.

To her surprise, the e-invite she received was the same one that Ethan had gotten. She spent enough time staring at the phones in her hands that Ethan got worried.

"What's wrong, Aru? Can you tell me what's going on in your mind?"

"Ethan, I think we have been invited to the same wedding."

"What do you mean?"

"Here, look at these two invites, and tell me if there is anything different about them", she said, handing him the devices.

Ethan treated the images like a diagnostic case and inspected every pixel of them for any difference.

After about 15 minutes of peering at the screen, he grunted.

"So, my conclusion was right," Aru responded.

"Yeah. We are going to the same events", Ethan sighed. 

"Ethan, you haven't told Nikhil about us, have you?"

"No, not at all."

"No matter what, we can't reveal our relationship to them", Aru mentioned.

"Why not, love?"

"Because everyone who knows Radhika and Nikhil will be present there. I don't want to be judged for dating you and neither do I want anyone to judge you or make snide comments about us."

"Okay, I do get your point now", Ethan nodded.

"So, just for a week, we will have to pretend that we aren't dating. I'll go there with my family and you by yourself. 

"Yeah, okay. We don't have any other option, do we? It's a shame because I would have loved to introduce you as my girlfriend."

Before Aru could reply, her phone started ringing and displayed Sahil's call.

"Hi Kiddo, how did you get reminded of me suddenly?"

"Did you get Radhika's invitation?"

"Yes, I did. But there is a huge issue, bud."

"What is it?" Sahil asked, not knowing what would be coming next.

"Radhika's fiance is a good friend of Ethan's."

"And they don't know you both are dating."

"Exactly. I don't want to give anyone a chance to gossip about us."

"Yeah, I get it. Some people can be downright nasty and disgusting. But are you sure that Ethan's friend is marrying our relative, Radhika? Because both Radhika and Nikhil are extremely popular names."

"Yes, Sahil. I compared the invites we both received. We both have been invited to the same wedding."

"Well, if that's the case, you both will have to stay at different places."

"Why should we do that?" asked Ethan.

"Because there is a huge chance that Nikhil will invite you to stay near him, and if you refuse, it will look weird. Also, Radhika and her relatives might visit us and question about you", Sahil explained.

"Shit, we didn't think about this."

"You are completely right. We can't show that we are together. Only then they will buy the lie."

"Didi, we have been asked to attend all the pre-wedding and post-wedding events. Has Ethan been asked as well?"

"Yup, all the events," responded Ethan.

"Well then, it is settled. We'll stay away from each other for a week."

"Let's see how long that lasts," teased Sahil.

Aru was interrupted by her pager.

"Sahil, I gotta go. There is a 911 call I have to attend to. Talk to ya later, bud."

Aru and Ethan didn't realise how quickly the time flew. They were on their way to Mumbai with her family. Ethan was sitting a few rows behind them so that they could leave separately, just in case Radhika or Nikhil came to escort them to their places.

Before they parted ways, Ethan and Aru promised they would stay somewhat around the other. "During all the events, stay in my line of vision, don't stray away."

"Yes, ma'am. Understood," he said, with a huge grin on his face.

"I love you, babe. See you later. Message me when you get time."

"Of course, love. Don't need to tell me twice. Love you too, sweetheart."

The wedding took place smoothly, and the couple had a great time, enjoying all the rituals they had to perform. 

Meanwhile, Ethan and Aru enjoyed themselves even though they were apart for a long time.

After the wedding, the married couple hosted a reception event which had a DJ playing some hit Hindi, Marathi and English songs. Meanwhile. Aru and Sahil were having some snacks in a corner.

"Didi, you should go dance with Ethan."

"Sahil, no one here knows about us."

"Didi, look around you. Everyone is enjoying themselves. Go and have some fun with Ethan."

"Are you sure? What if someone sees us?"

"They will not, I can fully assure you that."

 A few minutes later, Ethan and Aru met in a dark part of the room.

"Why did you call me here, darling? Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, I just wanted to dance with you."

"Are you sure, love?"

"Yes, Ethan. Please? We haven't seen each other in a week."

"Alright, then. Anything to make you happy."

At that moment, the DJ started playing a song that made Aru swoon because it was perfect for them, and they started dancing.

Even though Aru's eyes were fixed on Ethan's, her mind was elsewhere.

She was busy thinking about how her life had changed for the better ever since she met him. She had transformed into a completely new person ever since she met him.

Ever since they had started dating, her joy knew no bounds. She felt like she was on cloud nine all the time. She started finding happiness in everything around her, something she thought was impossible before.

"Beta, where are you? Nikhil and Radhika have started making their rounds to meet everyone."

"Aai, I'm with Ethan."

 "Come and join us quickly before they notice your absence."

"Ho, aai."

Ethan slipped out of the dark into the light after bidding goodbye to Arundhati but she felt like she had plunged into darkness. She couldn't even get a few minutes with her beloved without someone troubling them.

Meanwhile, the married couple joined Ethan to have a chat.

"Hey, Ethan, my friend! How are you? I hope you enjoyed all the events today."

"Yes, I enjoyed it to my heart's content, Nikhil. It was fun learning about new traditions that you follow."

"That's great. I bet Arundhati had already taught them to you."

"What.. what are you talking about?"

"We know you are with Aru. We saw you dancing with her just a few moments ago", Radhika said monotonously.

"How...how did you know it was us?"

At this, both Nikhil and Radhika burst into a fit of laughter.

"Look at his scared face, Radhika. Relax, my dear friend. We figured it out from the looks you have been giving each other all week. And the fact that whenever she had her phone out, your phone would start pinging. Also, you came up to take your photograph with Aru's family. It didn't take me long to figure that you are more than colleagues."

"As for the dance, doctor, I saw you go to a random spot and then Aru joined you exactly 2 minutes later. I think it's pretty obvious, right?" remarked Radhika.

"Yeah, you are right. We tried to be secretive the entire week, but you can't hide from everyone."

"Yeah, you definitely can't hide it from everyone. Well, I hope you are happy and content with Aru, and so is she. She's like a sister to us, and so we want what's best for her, Ethan", said Nikhil.

"I understand. You don't need to worry about Aru. I promise I'll take good care of her."

"Now, we are going to meet Aru to tell her the same thing."

"Let me know how she reacts, please. I can already imagine how much fun you both had. Also, do make sure to ask her in front of her family. They know about us, so you will have triple the fun."

"Sounds good. Talk to you later, Ethan!" saying so, the newly married couple made their way to Aru's family.

"Hi, everyone. Tumhi sagle kashe aahat?"

"Aamhi ekdum majet, enjoying all of your events", Sahil replied.

"Mmhm. I'm sure Ethan must have enjoyed it as well right, Aru?"

"I...I don't know what you are talking about," stammered Aru. 

Meanwhile, the Kulkarni family looked as if they had seen a ghost. 

"Tumhala kasa kalala?"

"Ethan ne sagitla aamhala."

"Nahi..you both must have scared him in the same way. Radhika, mi tula barya peki olakhte."

"Ho...."

"You are absolutely correct, Aru. These pulled the same thing on me."

"Ethan!" Aru exclaimed as she walked towards him.

"Beta, don't scream so loudly..."

"Sorry, aai! I just got excited."

"How did you get this excited even though you met almost...", Radhika said as she checked the time, "ten minutes ago?"

"Radhe, jau de tyana. Almost every couple is like that in their honeymoon phase."

"Aru, why didn't you tell me about Ethan?"

"As if you told me about you and Nikhil? At first, I thought you were set up by your parents."

"No, that's not how it was. It was quite a difficult task to convince our parents about each other. If I tell everyone here that we were together for five years before getting hitched, they'll go crazy, start gossiping and bashing us."

"Yeah, I know. We didn't reveal our relationship for the same reason", replied Aru.

"Well, I hope we hear your wedding bells next", Nikhil mentioned to Aru and Ethan.

"Well...," Aru said as she blushed.

"Ho, aata tujhya lagnachi tayari karayla pahije, didi."

"Sahil! Kay ugach kahi boltos. Amchya lagnala ajun khup vel aahe."

"Ho, ho. Apan baghu."

"Aata ghari jauya, kiddo. Parva flight aahe amchya doghancha."

"Aru.. were you dodging questions on our wedding?" asked Ethan.

"Yeah. You figured it out pretty quickly. But they were joking around."

"Don't sweat it, love. I know that was nothing serious and in good fun. As for our impending wedding, we can discuss that later. For now, I want to spend all my time with you. I've missed you dearly this last week. We are going out on a date tomorrow, so start preparing."

"Ethan, I have missed you a lot and don't want to leave your side until we get to work. I love you, honey."

For her Diwali visit to her family, Arundhati thought of taking Ethan with her to finally meet her parents. She constantly kept changing her decision as she was afraid of her parents disapproving of her being in a relationship with anyone. So, she had never taken her ex home, no matter how serious they were about each other.

Ethan was already nervous about meeting them, but his nervousness increased when he saw how scared Aru was. He had already met her brother Sahil, the only one who knew about their relationship. As a result, he was the only person from her family that Ethan was comfortable around.

"Didi, come on, there is no need for you to worry about aai and baba. Once they find out how much Ethan loves you, they will not have any issues at all", Sahil said when Aru called him to discuss her dilemma.

"What if they don't accept Ethan and disown me after learning about us?" Aru questioned, with a quiver in her voice.

"Don't worry about all of that, didi. Nothing like that will ever happen. Just focus on coming here to meet us."

"How can you be so sure?"

"That's because I know they love their daughter more than anything in the world and trust her completely. If you tell them that Ethan is the one for you, they will fully trust your decision. So, please do visit us, okay?"

"Thanks for your support, bro. I'll discuss this with Ethan and hopefully change his mind about visiting you all."

Ethan was initially extremely tensed to meet Aru's parents, more so because of her nervousness. However, when he saw that she was relaxed, it made him feel better as well. He knew that he would face anything if she was by his side.

Eventually, Ethan and Aru headed to her childhood home to meet her family.

Aru didn't know how her parents would react to her having a boyfriend who was her boss at work. Therefore, she decided not to inform her parents about the relationship as soon as she met them.

Ethan marvelled at the decorations outside Aru's home and how bright they made the house look. He knew what Diwali was but had never gotten a chance to experience it first-hand.

Arundhati's parents were elated to see her after a long time. She couldn't get time to meet them during her first year due to her workload, and she got even busier due to being on the Diagnostic Team. It was only after the attack that she stopped taking her life and family for granted.

Her parents were surprised to see another person with her, to say the least.

They welcomed Aru and Ethan inside, and Sahil greeted them with a hug and a refreshing glass of water.

He was amazed to see how pretty her home looked, especially with the beautiful fairy lights and some flower garlands.

After some nudging from Sahil and confusing looks from her parents, Aru decided to introduce her parents to her boyfriend.

"Aai, baba, this is Dr. Ethan Ramsey, my partner and my supervisor," she said, throwing caution to the wind yet unsure of their reactions.

Her parents were more scared for their daughter than shocked. They knew that their children would date someone once they grew up. However, they did not expect their daughter to date someone significantly older than her. They were unsure if Aru pursued the relationship because he forced her to or if she did it herself to get a better job opportunity. Nonetheless, they made sure to mask their expression until they knew more about her relationship.

"Wait a second, so is this the same Dr. Ramsey whose books you used to read all the time?" Sahil pretended to be surprised in front of their parents.

"Yes, Sahil. He's the same doctor."

"Well, Dr. Ramsey, welcome to our house. I hope you have a good time with us today. And I hope you are taking good care of our daughter."

"Thanks for welcoming me, Mr. Kulkarni. I promise I will never harm your daughter in any way. If I break my promise, you can feel free to give me the harshest punishment possible."

"Well, we'll see about that later. Right now, you are my guest. So, I have to look after you till you are here."

"Well, enough chit-chat for now. Please have these snacks, children. I hope you aren't hungry," Aru's mom said.

"Thanks, Mrs Kulkarni. We had some breakfast on the plane. Thanks again for the snacks."

"Aai, the chaklis are so delicious. How do you always make them this good?"

"Beta, my mom taught me this recipe. I have been practising this recipe for years now."

"Please teach me how to make these!"

"Ho, pan tyacha sathi tula vel pahije na. Tu tar purna divas busy astes."

"Ho na. Amcha kaam tasach aahe na. When I have a free day, I will video call you. Chalel na?"

"Ho, mala chalel. But let me know in advance so I can arrange my chores accordingly."

"Yes, I'll let you know, aai."

"Beta, do you want to show Ethan around by the time I set lunch?"

"Are you sure you don't want any help?"

"Ho. Tu relax kar. I'll call Sahil to help me."

"Are you mad that I am dating Ethan?" Aru asked her mom privately when they entered the kitchen.

"I'm not worried, Aru. I'm happy for you. Ethan seems like a good person."

"I can clearly see that you are worried, aai."

"Aru, we can talk about it later. Go on, beta. Get Ethan away from your dad's threatening."

"Thanks a lot, aai."

Aru made her way to her father to ask for his permission to take Ethan away.

"Baba, is it okay if I show Ethan around?"

"Yes, my girl, go ahead."

"Ethan, come on, let's go," she said, relieved to get Ethan away for a while.

"Where should we start from, Aru?"

"Let me show you my room first."

Ethan wanted to check Aru's room to see how she was as a child. Also, he wanted some material to tease her with to get back at her.

"Well, this is my room," Aru said.

The first thing that Ethan saw after entering her room were some movie posters.

"I see you have been a huge fan of movies since childhood," Ethan expressed, observing her giant posters of different Hollywood and Bollywood movies.

"I know you, Ethan. You love this, don't you? You finally have something to annoy me with."

"It seems you know me very well, my darling."

"I mean, that's..." Aru couldn't speak anymore because of how much she was blushing. No matter how many times Ethan called her his darling, she couldn't stop blushing every time he did so.

"Honey, didn't you used to read classics while growing up?"

"Why yes, I did, and absolutely loved them!"

"What else did you read?"

"Well, I started reading medical books that my grandpa owned. As I got more interested in medicine, I wanted to read more recent books."

"Can I have a look at them?"

"Sure, go ahead."

"Aru, you have almost all the books I have written," Ethan said, as he was pleasantly surprised by the fact that Aru enjoyed his research.

"Yeah, I first got Diagnostic Principles and was in awe of your research. That's when I made it my mission to read all of your books I could get."

"So, you were my biggest fan, weren't you?"

'Well, a fan. Not the biggest fan."

"So, how did you not know what I looked like?"

"I wanted to focus only on your work."

"Why, Aru, was I that distracting?" Ethan asked jokingly.

"No, Ethan. As much as I love looking at you, that was not the case. I didn't want to look at your picture or look you up as I didn't want to have a bad impression of you."

While Aru was showing Ethan around, her parents sat with Sahil to discuss her relationship.

"Sahil, please tell me the truth here. Did you know about them?" his father asked.

On hearing that, Sahil hesitated a bit.

"Beta, we won't get mad at you or Aru if you tell us the truth."

"Yes, your dad is right. We want to know if Ethan genuinely wants to be with Aru or if he's taking advantage of her good nature," his mother told him calmly.

"Well, to tell you the truth, they have been together since the attack. I saw how Ethan was around didi. He stayed with her all night after they gave her the remedy. When didi woke up, the first person she saw was him," Sahil revealed.

"I talked to her about Ethan then and asked her all about him," he continued.

"Well, what did she say about Ethan?"

"Didi told me that he was gentle and caring. He looked after her when she most needed him."

"Well, that sounds good to me. If Aru trusts him, I don't have to worry about him. But is he still her supervisor now?"

"No, I had the same question. Didi told me that they have reported their relationship to HR. She now has a new supervisor."

"Well then, that's good. But that doesn't mean I trust Ethan. I'll be keeping an eye on him."

"Sure, baba. Do what makes you feel better", Sahil said sarcastically.

"Well, I'm glad she hasn't been forced to be with him. And that Aru finally has found someone worthy of her."

Meanwhile, Ethan and Aru finished their tour of her childhood home and came down to the living room where her family was chatting.

"Aru, done with the tour? Did Dr. Ramsey like our place?"

"Ho, aai. Ethan loved our garden the most."

"Good. Come on, have lunch now. You both must be hungry," Aru's dad mentioned.

"Dr. Ramsey, please forgive me. I had no idea you would be visiting us today. So, if you can't eat the food for any reason please let me know."

"Mrs. Kulkarni, don't worry about it. I'll happily have what you have made."

"Well then, please get started, doctor. Please call me Nandita."

"Only if you call me Ethan."

"So, Ethan, are you serious about our Aru?"

"Baba!" Aru said, surprised at her dad's forwardness.

"Aru, we are asking him this just for your benefit, my girl. So, Ethan, please forgive us if it feels too much. We want what is best for her."

"I completely understand, Mr. Kulkarni."

"Ethan, please, call me Dilip."

"Dilip, I understand what you are saying. I have been serious about Aru ever since I almost lost her," Ethan said while interlocking Aru's fingers with his. I assure you all that I'll never hurt Aru at all. Also, I promise you that I'm here for the long run."

Her parents saw the sweet gesture and felt reassured by his words. They felt as if all of their worries had disappeared.

"Well, Ethan, I'm glad that you care about Arundhati. She's our only daughter, and we don't want her to be with someone who doesn't respect her," said Nandita.

"Ethan, I hope you enjoy your stay here. We hope you can visit us regularly", Dilip said approvingly.

"Aru, I think we should introduce our families to each other, don't you think?" Ethan asked.

"That's a good idea. Alan and Naveen would love to meet you all."

"Aai, baba, Alan is Ethan's father while Dr. Naveen Banerji is Edenbrook's chief, Ethan's mentor, and friend," Aru explained to her parents.

"Yes, that sounds fun, didi. Aai, baba, I have met Dr. Banerji. He is sweet and welcoming. He made me feel as if he knew me for a long time."

"Well, Ethan, I think we can come to Boston for Thanksgiving to meet your family. What do you both think?" Dilip asked his family.

"If Ethan wants to be in Aru's life for the foreseeable future, I think it is important for us to meet them."

"That's true, aai," Aru expressed.

"That's settled then, didi. We will be visiting you! Hopefully, we will also have a chance to meet your roommates without any stress."

"Yes, they would love to meet you at leisure. Aai, baba, everyone would love to meet you both," Arundhati replied, hoping no one would notice her internal freakout. She hadn't told Sahil that she mostly lived with Ethan ever since she went on leave.

Ethan realised what she was thinking and gave her a comforting smile which made her feel warm inside. She relaxed a bit, knowing that all would be well if he was by her side.

By the time Ethan and Aru came back from their vacation, her parents had gotten rid of their inhibitions against him. They had accepted him as their son, much to Aru and Ethan's happiness.
