The Difference with Horrortale and The Horrortale Sister’s AU
Trigger Warnings: Mentions of Abuse, Starving, Slight Angst, Information Dump, Feels, Famine, Death, Blood, Cannibalism, and a lot of Death.
Sour Apple Studios created Horrortale. The plot begins when Frisk stops at a Neutral Run and never returns. The monsters are starving as a result of their power loss (I believe). Undyne is the ruler of the Underground now that Asgore is no longer alive, and so on.
The premise of Horrortale is similar to the AU of the Horrortale Sisters, but there are significant differences. For starters, there are a few humans in the Underground with SOULs that are too weak to SAVE the monsters. Mist, unlike Horrortale Papryus and Sans, defended her sister, leaving her with a permanent scar on her face. The Skeleton Sisters, like the Humans in the Underground, aren't afraid to try to kill Aliza (or, in this case, a half-skeleton half-human named Sal and Sal's sister Kasie). Unlike Horrortale Sans and Papyrus, Mist and Lulu are unable to stop caring when they kill someone in order to survive; they are frequently shown regretting their actions or giving their victim a proper burial. Lulu encourages Sal to leave the Underground and live elsewhere because she believes the Monsters, Mixed, and Humans in the Underground are practically unsalvageable at this point due to the crimes they have committed. Sal witnesses Mist praying for the deceased. Mist believes that anyone can be a good person and makes every effort to ensure that Sal is not afraid of anything. Kasie is extremely abusive, and this frequently causes Sal to lose hope until Mist demonstrates that anyone can be a good person.
When there isn't enough food, Humans will offer themselves up for other Humans, Monsters, or their Children (whether mixed or not) so that they can survive and eat. Typically, this is older humans who would have died of old age eventually. Sal is unable to communicate with the majority of the family members of the people who become food because they are either catatonic or too violent to approach. The Skeleton Sisters lost their father and mother a long, long, long time ago, but Mist does her best to keep the Hopes of the many creatures in the Underground alive.
Sal and Aliza are the most notable differences in this AU. Sal was raised by an abusive mother who starved her, hit her, scratched her... Basically, she was subjected to any form of abuse (except sexual). Aliza, on the other hand, had loving parents; however, at the age of six, Aliza began to suffer from monophobia, a fear of being alone that makes one feel horrified. As a result, her parents' marital problems became exhausting. Sal is considered an orphan by the Mixed, Humans, and Monsters after telling Lulu about her parents. Her father was never known to her because her mother murdered him, but because he was a monster, his murder was not treated as such. Lulu and Mist quickly adopted the half-skeleton and began to raise her. Lulu took on a more maternal role and became more like Sal's mother, while Mist maintained an auntly presence. Another difference is that Aliza is eleven years old, whereas Sal is seven or eight. She is aware that she is in that age range, but she is unable to recall her exact age. She also has Kasie, the golden child who was unconcerned about what happened to her sister until she was forced into the Underground. Kasie is thirteen years old and acts as if she is younger than Sal. She hurts her on a daily basis and ruins her hope..
Sal  has a familiar, and yes, it is her deceased father. It's not a butterfly, believe it or not. Her familiar takes on the appearance of a wolf. Her "mother" and "aunt" aren't that insane and would prefer not to kill anyone. They're also not monsters; they're half-monsters. There is a distinction. They only have scars and are a little bigger than average.
Sal is essentially the daughter Lulu has always desired, and Lulu is the mother Sal has always desired. Lulu is a fierce protector of Sal and Mist. She is more than willing to sacrifice more than a few hands and heads to protect Sal and her sister. Even if she would later come to regret it. She is more concerned with her family than with some insignificant Humans, Monsters, and Mixed who would dare to harm them. Lulu and Mist dislike Kasie because she is extremely toxic and harms Sal whenever they are not present. Lulu physically harmed Kasie by placing her hands on Sal in her presence, making the older half-skeleton terrified of her and
Sal later told Lulu not to harm her sister, and Lulu agreed ONLY because she asked. Kasie is still entitled and devoid of redeeming qualities, but Sal adores her sister and strives to mold her into a good person. Kasie gradually began to learn from her mistakes and attempted to correct them. Kasie is gradually becoming a better person as a result of her experiences, and she is now working to make amends for everything she did to Sal.
Facts about this AU of an AU (Inspired by an AU inspired by the Original AU of this AU):
Sal refers to Lulu as “Mama Bear” (or “Teddy Bear”) and Mist as “Auntie”.
Lulu gave Sal the nickname “Baby Bear”.
Lulu developed the nickname “Baby Bear” because Sal refers to her as “Mama Bear”.
Sal’s mother has no name because Sal doesn’t even know it.
After bathing the small half-skeleton, Lulu nearly went insane when she saw Sal's scars for the first time.
Sal did not learn how to form her human form until Lulu personally taught her. In human form, she resembles a younger version of Lulu, but with the bone structure of her father.
Her familiar is named Bear and her father was named Verdana.
Verdana loved his daughter, but three years after running away with her, his ex-wife murdered him.
Verdana can take physical form to communicate with and show Lulu and Mist. He can also communicate perfectly in Skeleton form or not.
Verdana can also manifest a form for Sal so she can hug him and he can comfort her, even though she is unaware her familiar is a relic of him.
Verdana refuses to show himself to his eldest because he despises who she has become. He will only appear if she redeems herself.
Sal's main SOUL trait is KINDNESS, with DETERMINATION and JUSTICE as strong subtypes.
Kasie's main SOUL trait is a tainted version of JUSTICE, with a strong subtype of PERSERVERANCE.
Verdana has only shown himself to his oldest once, when she discovered he was her "worthless" young sister's familiar and accused him of favoritism. In which he delivered a "how much you suck" speech before never speaking or appearing in front of her again.
Lulu will tuck Sal into her jacket and carry her around if she is too tired to walk.
If you share food with anyone from the Horrortale AU here, it’s considered a romantic and close gesture. Similar to a SOUL bond.
SOUL bonds are a bit different in these AUs.
SOUL bonds in the Horrortale AU: When a monster/mixed/human loves a human/mixed/monster as much as they do in this AU, they use their magic to mix it into their food (this is a more common practice in the Underground because Humans are much more in touch with their magic here). A SOUL bond is formed when a person's partner shares the same feelings as them, causing them to become SOUL bound. SOUL bonds differ from one relationship to the next. Siblings share food, forming a sibling SOUL bond; lovers form a more romantic SOUL bond; and friendship remains a friendship SOUL bond. This also applies to adoptive families. Most Monsters, Humans, and Mixed try to avoid SOUL bonding because when one of the SOUL bond’s halves dies, it feels like they've lost their entire world and becomes catatonic and violent.
Mist and Lulu shared food with Sal, and as a result, they are now SOUL bound to her and are essentially Sal's only family, being her mother and aunt. SOUL bonding with a sibling, lover, or friend involves sharing memories over food. So Mist is well aware of the resets, as is Sal. They are acutely aware of each other's experience, and Sal burst into tears and hugged her adoptive mother tightly as her Mama Bear began to cry as well. For the first time in a long time, the small family cried.
