Last month was the inaugural North Africa Dreamin event in Morocco. Here’s what our CEO, Phil Walton, had to say about his time at this new event… The first African Salesforce community event” was too tempting a tagline to turn down! When fellow MVP Houssam SAOUDY invited me to speak, I was very excited about my first speaking trip to Africa, and being a part of something unique.  Immediately on arrival, Houssam, Doria, and Abdelhakim, introduced themselves, and I felt welcomed into the local Ohana of a country I had never visited, and a continent I hardly knew. Note, as well the main languages in Morocco being Arabic, Berber, and French, I had zero skills with Arabic and Berber, and my french is pretty awful. Thankfully we all spoke Salesforce, and had the combined skills of friendliness and openness.   On the day of the conference, I noticed many of the sessions were in French which made me worry that my session might need some local input… So Mehdi, one of the event volunteers (and Salesforce Consultant & Trailhead Ranger), joined me on stage for the presentation and helped with any translations and also helped chip in with some good content, thanks again Mehdi! My session ‘The Free Stuff’ was an updated version of a presentation I have given a number of times, and seemed to be well received. The most important part of it is that it’s an evolving session, with different content depending on the audience and location, and feedback given. I made a point of prompting the audience to share their most useful Salesforce resources – in return for some Manchester United swag – which then helps the audience and helps me for the next version!   Any mention of North Africa Dreamin would not be complete without a (detailed) review of the food. I think this may be my 9th community event in five continents, and it may just have to win the Best Food prize! Lunch was a spectacular spread of Moroccan food which thankfully was spread over one and a half hours in two large banqueting rooms. The Moroccan tea in-between sessions was sweet, minty and refreshing. We then went out for an evening meal with some of the speakers, sponsors, and Salesforce visitors, which was immense; complete with belly dancers – thankfully I managed to avoid being dragged up to join the dance, others were less lucky, I think all social media evidence has since been deleted..! Photo Credit: Cyril Louis So why should YOU attend a Dreamin’ event? You don’t need to travel to a different continent (although coinciding an event with a holiday/travels is a great idea!), but check out Dreamin events in and around your home country such as* Singapore – Singapore Dreamin, 15th January 2020 Japan – Japan Dreamin, 25th January 2020 Canada – Banff Dreamin, 13th March 2020 UK – London’s Calling, 20th March 2020 Spain – DreamOle, 24th April 2020 USA – Texas Dreamin, 16-17th July 2020 France – FrenchTouch Dreamin, 24th September 2020 * There are many many more Dreamin events to choose from, plus new ones all the time, so keep an eye out and give them your #TrailblazerCommunity support!  In my opinion, these are the events when you can really learn new things. You can easily attend five or six plus sessions in a day, no queuing, no registering for each session in advance and joining a line to get your seat. No long treks against the tide to find the session location. It is also easier to meet people. With the average attendance being 200-300 people, you can easily introduce yourself to people, and get a chance to chat with speakers, Salesforce attendees, community leaders etc., that you struggle to do at a World Tour or Dreamforce. Hope to see you at a Dreamin event soon!

Epcot Flower and Garden Festival Springs to Life
Tumblr media
When it comes to special events, Walt Disney World never disappoints. The Epcot Flower and Garden Festival is up there with the best.
For 90 days from March 6th to June 3, 2019, Epcot explodes in an amazing array of colors and aromas. Tapestries of petals of every hue and shape. Flowers and blooming plants vie for dominance in a sea of breathtaking arrangements.
The bouquet wafting from plants is carried by the breeze. Unless you suffer horribly from hay fever, the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival is a delight.
Fifteen Outdoor Kitchens serve up exotic and delicious food and drink with an international flavor. For regular Festival goers, there is a new treat in store. The Honey Bee-stro Hosted by National Honey Board present a menu of all-natural food and drink with a touch of nectar.
The Garden Rocks Concert Series completes this treat for the senses. Four days a week, music fills the area of the American Gardens Theater from the likes of Lonestar, Herman's Hermits, Rick Springfield, Survivor, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Village People and many more.
The Epcot Flower and Garden Festival lifts the beauty bar to another level. It's perfect for a slow, relaxing stroll between beautiful flowerbeds, wildlife habitats and over 100 topiaries.
It truly is a photographer’s paradise with so much color expertly combined by Disney’s professional horticulturists to create the perfect canvas.
Many of the favorite regular topiaries will be making an appearance, as well as a  new one. A brand new Welcome to the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival topiary at the main entrance will feature Mickey, Minnie and Goofy.
Horticulturists are on hand for seminars and are happy to give you their time and advice.
They are also kept busy changing the flowers and plants as they wilt half way through the Festival, planting new ones that thrive in the hotter temperatures.
The Epcot Flower and Garden Festival is a tribute to the beauty of nature and how produce can be transferred from garden to kitchen to table.
A little bit of accompanying music goes down as well as the food and drink.
GAZE AT THE GREAT GARDENS DURING EPCOT FLOWER AND GARDEN FESTIVAL
And take your time; it took around 400 Disney horticulturists a year to prepare for the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival.
Keep a lookout for the plethora of exotic blooms have been carefully planted in around 700 gardens.
Alpine Containers is an education about plants that survive at high elevation.
The Bonsai Collection at the Japan Pavilion is a display of the beautiful miniature trees.
Check out the close to 225 small groups of plants that combine to form the Floating Mini-Gardens between Future World and World Showcase.
The popular geraniums can be seen in all their glory at Geranium Grandeur.
Plants that are known for their healing ability can be found at The Land in the Health and Healing Garden.
Also at The Land Pavilion are the world’s hottest peppers in the Pepper Fire Garden.
Prehistoric Plants that existed in the dinosaurs' days are, ironically, at Future World East.
The United Kingdom Pavilion plays host to the stunning Shakespeare Garden.
Nature Works Everywhere is an important exhibit which instructs youngsters about creating gardens at their school yards. This helps to filter water whilst improving the soil and wildlife habitats.
Several selected Flower & Garden Festival areas and topiaries are beautifully lit as darkness falls to produce the Illuminated Gardens.
Wander among Butterflies in their hundreds in Tinker Bell’s Butterfly House at Future World. Or pay a flying visit to Future World East and listen to a chorus from Blue Martin songbirds.
TREASURE THESE TERRIFIC TOPIARIES AT EPCOT FLOWER AND GARDEN FESTIVAL
Over 100 topiaries are on display during the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival, many with Disney themes. Each year, the topiaries seem to get more lifelike as techniques evolve.
The 2018 Epcot Flower and Garden Festival Topiaries:
Epcot Main Entrance - Mickey, Minnie and Goofy - New for 2018
Between Future World and World Showcase - Figment
Future World East and West Lake - Festival Blooms
Near Mission: SPACE - Buzz Lightyear
Near Test Track - Lightning McQueen and Cruz Besouro of ‘Cars’ fame
Near MouseGear - Stitch
Norway Pavilion - Anna and Elsa
Showcase Plaza - West Towers - Bambi and Friends

United Kingdom Pavilion - Tinker Bell

GARDEN ROCKS CONCERT SERIES
All these choices to consider and resolutions to be reached. What to eat. What to drink. Which topiaries to admire first. And if that wasn’t enough, you have to decide which day to go and which Garden Rocks Concert to see. The Epcot Flower and Garden Festival attracts headline acts every year that pack out the America Gardens Theater.
If you're an Annual Pass Holder, you can watch them all.

Plant growing techniques including hydroponics (No, me neither) will be related to you and you will go home with a handout which may be of some use to you in your own garden.

THINGS FOR KIDS TO DO AT EPCOT FLOWER AND GARDEN FESTIVAL
Kids may love the gardens, topiaries and unusual food but it’s important that they don’t get bored. All taken care of - there's plenty for kids to do at the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival.
Spike's Pollen Nation Exploration: Budding gardening enthusiasts can take part in a scavenger hunt starring Spike, the cutest busiest bee around. Kids can explore and hunt down Spike's best blooms as he pollinates the gardens of the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival. Maps are available for $5.99
Interactive Play Areas: Imagination Play Garden: Situated along the Imagination Walkway between Future World and World Showcase, this fun zone has musical instruments such as drums, chimes and xylophones where kids can discover an unknown gift for creating beautiful tunes.
The How-To Garden: Located in Future World West, kids can get botanical tips, ideas on crafting and learn how to build a butterfly house.
Road To The Florida 500: Along the Test Track walkway, this desert-themed mini park will have the kids racing about beneath the canopied jungle gym. Topiaries include “Cars” stars Mater, Lightning McQueen and Cruz Besouro topiaries.
Kids will love the Fab Five topiaries; Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Goofy and Donald Duck, plus all the other Disney favorites throughout the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival.
Butterflies on the Go Take the kids through this exhibit, home to 1000 butterflies. Learn all about the life of a butterfly and see cocoons in various stages. You might even see a butterfly emerging from its cocoon. There are interactive areas and knowledgeable Cast Members on hand to answer questions. The kids will love it if a butterfly lands on them.
Purple Martins These songbirds have flown an incredible 3,000 miles all the way from Brazil to visit Walt Disney World. Truthfully. They’ve come all this way to raise their families. How cool is that for a fledgling!
The Disney Conservation Fund (DCF) is making efforts to reverse the decline of wildlife which may be at risk. It is also encouraging families to spend quality time outdoors, learning more about our surroundings and hopefully assisting the DCF’s achievements.
Get the kids to be on the lookout for the DCF logo at gardens, exhibits and habitats.
