GMMTV randomized shipping wheel pt.2

here we go again, I had too much fun with part one & a few of you wanted a part 2! so like last time, I put the current gmmtv cast on a virtual spinning wheel, spun it 20 times to create 10 random couples & rated them!

OFF X FLUKE GAWIN

I SWEAR I DIDN'T FAKE THIS LMAO 😭 so um... I did write a seandan not me fic & simply adore both of these babes, so... yeah of course I'm into this lol. I think they did have great enemies to lovers chemistry in not me, and them being work out buddies irl was adorable! they're also kings of having chemistry with literally anyone so I know given the opportunity they would absolutely SLAY 😌 also they would be such an attractive couple lol, sorry I need to mention that since both of them are two of my absolute ultimate celebrity crushes 🥰 and lastly since I've always wanted to see off in a ship with a guy who's taller than him this would be *chef's kiss* 9/10

FORCE X POND

hmmmmm... I don't really see it but to be fair, I didn't see force & neo either and that didn't keep them from absolutely eating each other's faces in the only friends mock trailer 😂 and I ABSOLUTELY didn't see pond & nanon together and that didn't stop pond from being so good at flirting with him in dirty laundry! so all of that to say that both force & pond have very flirty energies and are good actors so while I wouldn't pair them together out of my own volition, if it were to happen, I'm certain they would 100% make it work! 6.5/10

LOOKJUN X ARM

so I love both of these babes individually and they're both the king & queen of ig imo, but together on-screen? I'm gonna be honest, I can't really see it :( I do think if it were to happen they'd make it work bc they're both great actors, but idk why I feel like their chemistry wouldn't be great. 3/10

JJ X AYE

I... ain't mad at this in concept, but also can't see it at all?? I think it might be bc I've literally never seen these two interact before & they feel like they are just part of two very different worlds, but as a side ship?? maybe. I mean jj was really cute paired with neen in my gear & your gown and that was pretty random, and aye literally has chemistry with everyone, so... 4/10

OHM PAWAT X WIN

lmaooooooo I know this is probably some people's wet dream, but for me I'm like 😶😶😶 the nepo baby & the homophobic bully together?? to be fair, the visuals, acting & chemistry would probably be great, and honestly these two do have a common point: they both disappointed me on different levels lol 😬 4/10

KHAOTUNG X BRIGHT

so fun fact I am posting these pairings in the order they were chosen lmaoooo, this timing truly reminds me of that one very good fanfic that put sarawat, tine and fong together :'))) so anyways, I love khaotung & think he's an excellent actor who has chemistry with everyone, but... I think even him couldn't pull it out of bright lol. like bless bright's soul but even in 2gether it was a struggle trying to see him portray a queer character, and imo he's just one of these straight actors who is just too straight... 3/10

PLUEM PUSIT X DUNK

girllllllll 💀 be fucking for real lmao, I love pluem a fucking lot, bless his heart, but it's clear he struggles to portray good chemistry with another guy, and even dunk's good chemistry couldn't save it 💀 also physically they would look a bit weird together, idk I don't see it at all, 1/10

LOVE X CIIZE

NOW we're getting somewhere!!! so love & ciize would be amazing together imo, even though obviously I love milklove more. first of all, both of them have had queer roles before, love in bb and the upcoming 23.5 & ciize in my tee and waterboyy, so I know they'd do great! and also physically I think they'd be an adorable couple bc they're both pocket sized but look quite different which is great for on-screen couples imo! overall I will give it an 8/10!

KRIST X FLUKE PUSIT

lmaooooo, krist be collecting the fluke's of gmmtv at this point 😭 so as many know I love fluke pusit so fucking much & think he's an excellent actor who has amazing chemistry with everyone, but... even he can't save this trainwreck 💀 2/10

PODD X FAH

now THIS??? random yet interesting 😌 love them both, think they're both way too underrated & deserve a lot more, and I seriously think they could do a good job together! I also think physically they complete each other well & would look good together, and I could see them in a push & pull, enemies to lovers type of show. I'm sold! 7/10

NEO X MARK PAKIN

this one is obviously a bonus pairing bc they're gonna be a ship in both cooking crush & only friends haha, atp the wheel is getting too smart 😭 I'll give them an 7.5/10 bc I liked them from the trailers but I also do deffo still prefer neolouis

Turtles Catches Up With Old GMMTV: SOTUS S and Our Skyy x SOTUS Edition

[What’s going on here? After joining Tumblr and discovering Thai BLs through KinnPorsche in 2022, I began watching GMMTV’s new offerings -- and realized that I had a lot of history to catch up on, to appreciate the more recent works that I was delving into. From tropes to BL frameworks, what we’re watching now hails from somewhere, and I’m learning about Thai BL's history through what I’m calling the Old GMMTV Challenge (OGMMTVC). Starting with recommendations from @absolutebl on their post regarding how GMMTV is correcting for its mistakes with its shows today, I’ve made an expansive list to get me through a condensed history of essential/classic/significant Thai BLs produced by GMMTV and many other BL studios. My watchlist, pasted below, lists what I’ve watched and what’s upcoming, along with the reviews I’ve written so far. Today, I’ll cover SOTUS S and Our Skyy x SOTUS, to close out this series and the KristSingto ship.]

Listen -- I did it to myself. All in the midst of my absolute INSANITY for Our Skyy 2 x Bad Buddy this week, and Our Skyy 2 x ATOTS next week. I did all this to myself! My mind’s mush.

For some reason, as I was scrolling through MDL last month, I thought my OGMMTVC watchlist wasn’t complete if I didn’t finish the rest of the series of GMMTV’s first HUGE BL in SOTUS (2016). A lot of my priorities regarding learning about the history of Thai BLs have changed over the course of this project, and the watchlist has definitely expanded from @absolutebl‘s original three suggested BLs to watch to understand the old GMMTV brand of BLs. And, as I’m inching ever closer to He’s Coming To Me (2019) -- I realized that there would be quite the gap in my seeing the development of Singto Prachaya as an actor from when he first premiered in SOTUS to HCTM. I felt that, in order to be REALLY prepared to become a SUPER FAN of HCTM -- I needed to freshen up on my Singto.

What I wanted to see was -- could he save the franchise at all, simply by way of his acting? As ABL Sensei noted about the original SOTUS -- it was problematic enough to be emblematic of a style of BL that GMMTV is now moving away from.

From that point of view? I’m honestly VERY glad I finished out SOTUS as a franchise. I think it was hugely important for the OGMMTVC project, and for me to understand what GMMTV was experimenting with, and how the channel slowly developed with more expertise in making BLs and/or queer media over the course of the last eight years, particularly under the production eye of Aof Noppharnach as he took more control of GMMTV’s BL steering wheel. It was worth it for me to take the pain of dealing with Krist’s acting again, and as many of the WONDERFUL Tumblr family noted for me: SOTUS S and Our Skyy x SOTUS were by far easier to watch than SOTUS.

So -- I’m making a few assumptions, since I don’t concretely know the detailed history -- by the time SOTUS S comes out, KristSingto are an established pair. Fans are likely chomping for more (and spending more), and SOTUS S comes through as a means of continuing Arthit and Kongpob’s relationship.

Fam, all of you were right. Our Skyy x SOTUS was WAY, WAY better than either of the seasons of SOTUS.

SOTUS S was fine. It reminded me of the Korean period dramas I used to watch as a young woman when they first started airing in America, ones that I’d watch with my mom. Lots of, like, sitting at long tables with your trusted war advisors on how to take over the Goryeo dynasties. SOTUS S was like a Japanese work drama, where like, the STORY of the WORK is PART of the POINT of the drama (maybe a little like Step By Step right now? I think it’s always hard to create DRAMA around, like, a WORK PROJECT, but anyway. Minor quibble.).

Whatever. As with the original SOTUS: it took fucking FOREVER in SOTUS S to get to the meat of the story of where the relationship was landing with Arthit and Kong.

But let me give Krist a little credit. After Arthit got used to Kong being an intern at the company -- I will say that I felt Krist, in his acting, loosened up a bit. A little wink here, an actual smile there. Instead of playing defense at the baseline, Arthit/Krist started hitting some shots at the net. (I see he’s “loosening up” even more right now in Be My Favorite... yeah? I dunno, I ain’t watchin’ that.)

Did I feel like Krist’s betterment in acting was in response to Singto’s acting? Not... quite. Not yet.

Once I watched Our Skyy x SOTUS, I realized a couple of things. The style of workshopping that GMMTV BL actors go through NOW, CLEARLY didn’t exist at the time of SOTUS. I felt like SOTUS and SOTUS S WERE the workshop for these two.

And then Our Skyy premieres, and I’m like -- OHHHHHHHHHH. OH! Krist kinda has it in him to pull out some real acting!

The Our Skyy episode also had 1) great structure, 2) a CONCISE and CRISP storyline, and 3) SHARP dialogue. It didn’t seem like these guys needed to IMPROV their emotions, the way that Krist DID, and seemed to STRUGGLE to do in the first two seasons.

But most importantly, for me -- in relation to what I said about Singto earlier -- I realized something about Singto. Like I said in my review of the original SOTUS -- Krist could not catch what Singto was throwing.

I think in SOTUS S, Singto... didn’t give up, per se. He just STILL didn’t HAVE the means by which to ACT RESPONSIVELY to someone who WASN’T RESPONDING to him. I didn’t see Singto grow, at all, in his role in SOTUS S. He was still the same seme automaton. And there’s a problem with that, I think. I could not see, AGAIN, for the LIFE of me, why Kong would be ATTRACTED to Arthit -- EVEN IF Krist were playing Arthit as a very held-back, stuffy type. Kong/Singto radiated with energy and a POTENTIAL of love -- and watching them interact in SOTUS S was like watching the emanation of an incorrect math equation.

I was surprised. I thought I’d see more development, more flexibility, more comfort in the role of Kong. Both Arthit and Kong seemed to be playing their robotic TYPES.

Not so in Our Skyy. Finally. The guys seemed looser. I felt this most greatly after Kong cooked Arthit breakfast, and Arthit scoffs (as usual) away from Kong’s affections. And Singto/Kong opens his arms for a hug.

FINALLY. Wordless communication! IT WAS GREAT. And the message of the hug -- we don’t know if this will be our last hug, so let’s hug and make it count -- it was a great and meaningful message.

If I had to get through SOTUS S to get to that moment, and to see these two be able to share well-acted emotion by the time of Our Skyy -- I would argue, for my sake and sanity, that it was worth it for this project. Because that ship/pair was so important for early BL. I had to think that there HAD to be some art, AT SOME POINT, between those two, and we got just a taste in Our Skyy.

I want to think, and to say, that for GMMTV -- that may have been a bit of a breakthrough moment, that Our Skyy x SOTUS episode. Many of those other first Our Skyy moments, like Puppy Honey and Kiss The Series/Kiss Me Again -- those were appendages to existing series where the BL aspect was secondary. I think that wordless communication, the emotion and the hug from Kong and Arthit, mayyyyybe potentially showed that, hey -- we can create a bit of a foundation of emotional art here, with this format.

Some quick other thoughts on SOTUS S and Our Skyy before I move on:

1) I liked Cherry. Yes -- a femme-ish character set up for the laughs. But Cherry wasn’t designed nearly as problematically as the femme characters of Love Sick. I think, by adding Cherry, that the writers of SOTUS were beginning to acknowledge that their brand of BL NEEDED to step its toe into queer recognition -- especially considering that other shows that had aired around the time of SOTUS (namely Make It Right) dealt with queerness so head on.

2) WHERE WAS NAMMON IN OUR SKYY??? Come awn! He and Guy Sivakorn had AMAZING chemistry! (Guy Sivakorn, y’all, great GMMTV stable guy!)

3) I REALLY LOVED SEEING KONG’S CLASSMATES in Our Skyy, even for a second. All the homies with their flashy hair. I felt total nostalgia for all of them during SOTUS S and Our Skyy.

4) Durian’s outing of Kong and Arthit was bullshit. THAT was problematic AF. Judgy and shady.

5) Oh, speaking of non-continued couples: no Earth and Tod in Our Skyy. Dang. I thought Earth would come around. (The whole SOTUS franchise REALLY left couples hanging. Remember Prem and Wad?? Wtf! Graveyard of potential!)

Anyway. Listen. I don’t really consider this review over until I watch He’s Coming To Me. I now need to see Singto in a pairing with an actor who ACTS RESPONSIVELY, who is able to CATCH what Singto is PRESENTING.

I will admit Krist DRASTICALLY improved, even from SOTUS S to Our Skyy.

BUT. I now know, from Make It Right and Bad Buddy, that few actors can hold like Ohm Pawat in BLs (but I’ve yet to get familiar with Gun, and I can’t wait to do some talent comparisons between the gold stars of GMMTV soon enough).

And that’s what I’m looking forward to watching -- the SUBVERSION of a huge ship for the SAKE of getting two damn talented actors together for what I know will be a fucking gem of a show in HCTM. I cannot wait to get to it, and it’ll be really soon.

[Alright! On to Love By Chance, with darling Perth Tanapon and my first ride with Saint Suppakong. I’ve mentioned this here and there, but many thanks to the WONDERFUL @bengiyo for filling me in on all the deets of the break-up of the PerthSaint ship. As I get closer to He’s Coming To Me, understanding Perth’s and Ohm’s reputations -- especially as I close out watching Double Savage this week, and understanding how their ship subversions affected their careers in and out of BLs -- is super helpful context.

Here’s the list as it stands. i’m so tired of like,,, promoting bl shows where the actors become a couple?? like i know that’s the culture in bls and all but like?? as a person that can put a strict line between the character and the actor i just,,, don’t get it.

which is why i don’t get a lot of actor ships that come just from the fact that they played a couple in a show, because i love when the actors are friends and they work well with each other but fans turn that thing into more?? and a lot of time the actors DON’T fit into the dynamics of the characters. i just hate when people push the dynamics of the fictional couple into the actors and when they act like just because they played a couple they HAVE to be best friends/a couple too

so I couldn't sleep bc I had a uni interview lol, so I thought "why not put the 100 current gmmtv actors on a randomized wheel to create random pairings that I can in turn rate & judge?" so,,, um... here we go 😅

here are the 10 first ships that were created, if you like this I'll make a part 2 bc it's too much fun:

LOUIS X ARM

honestly I don't think it would be a bad ship per say bc arm has proved with friend zone & never too late that he's a great actor who honestly should get more roles, and louis is also pretty solid & gets along with everyone, so... this is not a crazy idea in my eyes but also this would be a very unexpected ship so idk, 6/10

NAMTAN X MOOK

so here's the thing, I'm so desperate for gl I'd be down for ANY wlw pairing lmao 😆 also namtan & mook are both very good actresses so I'm sure they'd do amazing! my only issue is that they do look very similar & in general couples are more interesting visually if they kinda are opposites, but also queer people often date their lookalikes so it wouldn't be too crazy lol, 7/10

JUNIOR X CHIMON

hmm... I don't really see this lol. I think junior has tried doing bl many times before joining gmmtv & he's not that good in romantic settings imo (though I might be biased bc one of his bl roles was him faking a ship with yoon in the graduate where he looked like such an awkward hetero lol.) but the thing is, chimon also kinda has that vibe? I think he's definitely gotten better but the straight vibes are still poking through for chimon imo, so him & junior together would be too much. but honestly if they were given the chance I can also see them completely surprise me so I'll give them 4/10

THOR X GUNSMILE

bro 💀 this is the weirdest pairing ever lmao, first of all I've always struggled to see gunsmile doing bl, like I think it would require the exact right pairing for him to do great at it & not look awkward, so thor?? noooope! I liked thor in the warp effect but he gives too much hetero vibes for me once again, so him & gunsmile would literally make the straightest bl couple ever lmao 1/10

AJ X PRIGKHING

I love them both so much so I can see it! as an ajploy shipper, obviously they wouldn't be my ultimate pairing, but prikhing is adorable & I think they'd make the cutest little side pairing, 8/10

........... actually? 👀 I don't mind this. like my first thought was "wtf" but then I imagined them next to each other & I think their height/size difference would be cute! I also think aou is a very good actor who has impressed me a lot in all the roles I've seen him in! as for luke, I'm gonna be honest I don't really see him doing bl & he needs to work on his acting, but I've seen stranger things happen in this fandom so never say never :') 6.5/10

now, once again, my first thought was "wtf 💀", but then I removed win from his status as incredibly famous & placed him back right before 2gether aired, and? honestly that ship could work? I imagine them in an aepete from love by chance type of innocent relationship, and I think physically they'd be a good looking ship together. though I can't imagine their chemistry or acting together so I'll give them a 6/10

gmmtv randomized shipping wheel pt.3

here's part 3 folks, this time I included 15 couples bc I can't stop spinning the wheel lol :') as always I put the 100+ gmmtv actors on a virtual spinning wheel & used it to create brand new random ships!

this time I decided to only include one ship per actor in each part, because the wheel loves putting pond & mix with everyone lmao, so I will include their other ships in part 4 & 5 lol. the pairings are presented in order still, though!

NAMTAN X AUN

hmmm... my first instinct is to say "I don't see it", but actually I could see them being one of those random gmmtv side couples they scrapped together, and I'm sure they'd do a good enough job bc they're both good actors. 3/10

JAN X NA

I... don't see it at all lol, but in a way a ship with these two would remind me of jan's ship with an older guy in the upcoming loveless society, so... it's not egregious to think about either. as a side side ship, I wouldn't mind them. 4/10

MARC X POND

lmaooooo, I ain't mad at this but also don't see it at all :') marc & pond are both pretty boys I love and they're both good enough actors, so they'd probably make it work, but when I try imagining it... it looks a bit awkward innit 💀 4/10

MIX X PEPPER

now THAT is random af :'))) I honestly don't know what to say bc for one we've never seen mix in another pairing than earthmix (unless you count him being cute with phuwin in futs), and pepper is still a very new actor who hasn't gotten a pairing yet either, so I can't picture them together. I guess visually they would look kinda good, but I can't imagine what their acting would be like, 5/10

GEMINI X LUKE

bro 💀 call CPS 💀 so first let's address the age gap, gemini is a baby & luke is almost 10 years older than him, which... hasn't kept some bl pairings to be formed before (*cough* maxnat *cough*), but I find very fucking awkward 😬 moreover, I can't even imagine them having chemistry or good acting together, I just can't 😭 1/10

WIN X KAY

this wheel really is putting win with the most random people lol! I don't know how to feel about this pairing at all tbh... I feel like they could potentially be good, but also I don't really see it, probably bc win is so far removed from normal thai actors now I can't imagine him with anyone lol. I do hope kay does bl one day though bc he was great in good old days! 2/10

SEA X WHITE

nah 💀 love white but I've recently realized I can't imagine him being paired with anyone, but then once he is he usually does a good job? for example he slayed untwo in tol but I would have never imagined him with earth prior to that. with sea it's even more crazy to imagine bc I've never even seen them interact, so I just can't see it at all... 1/10

GUN X LOOKJUN

white & namo??? now THAT would have been a not me twist 😂 I'm gonna be honest, I'm sure they would do a good enough job simply bc they literally had a little flirty moment in the three gentlebros where they did look cute together! but overall without this moment I don't really see them together, so I'll give them a 4/10

BOOM X SING

the random wheel really is random af lmao 😂 I don't see it simply bc I've never seen these two even interact before, so while I'm sure they'd do a good job if paired, I literally can't even picture it :'))) 2/10

PRIM X OFF

so since these two have done the spirited away x loewe campaign together we all know they do look great together, but let's be for real, the 13 year age gap is way too big & kinda awkward if they were to be a ship, so........ 3/10

EARTH X OHM PAWAT

I think this is another ship that might be a lot of people's wet dream lol. separating my feelings about ohm, I think on paper this could be a great ship, but tbh I just don't see it still, maybe they could play brothers, but I think lovers is too weird to me lol. 5/10

TAY X LEE

omg this ghost ship brings me a couple of years back! in case some of you don't know, tay & lee were very close in 2019-2020 (they still are close but we don't see them together as much) and people were shipping them hard bc they're just so sweet together! 7/10 I think they'd be so cute <3

hmmm... my first ever thai crush & one of my current ones... yeah I can't see it lol, I think the masculine energy would be too much, and bc they're both physically quite similar I just can't picture it. 2/10

ooh, I'm not mad at that but I can't see it either lol. honestly I think they'd do a great job bc they're both solid actors, and I think they would look very good together, but since I've never seen them interact I can't say I can fully picture it either lol. 4/10
