before I started writing fanfics to post online, I always wondered how these people could have writer's block and then suddenly write a song so amazing... I literally wrote 1100 words last night at 1am because I got inspiration...it's real

Kourtney!! yes!! I'm so excited to see a Kourtney centered plot line now, even if it is kinda her early S2 one about believing n herself and whatnot.

I'm sorry but Ricky in this episode is really just him flirting with Gina, Jet and EJ, in that order.

I desperately need to know what Carlos erased on the cast list. like more than anything I need to know if he erased his own name or Ricky's. he erased around the middle of the page so maybe they got a lesser role and he doesn't want that?

Script Writing

Danielle sits on her couch in her South Philly apartment reading. The sound of footsteps flying down old creaky stairs is followed by Danielle’s roommate Kate bursting into the living room.

Kate: “Do you wanna help me pick an outfit.”

Danielle: Flips a page, silence for another few moments, then she smoothly sets the book down. “What for?”

Kate: “We’re going out tonight.”

Danielle: “What do you have in mind?”

Kate: “Literally everyone’s going to that new bar on 13th. I say we go too.”

Danielle: “Yeah, I’m down.”

Kate rushes back up the stairs and Danielle follows. They enter Kate’s room with clothing thrown everywhere.

Danielle: “How about … your new black top. Definitely with those purple pants. Oh, and the boots you wore last week.”

Kate: “That was what I was leaning towards.” (She says with a sigh). “But I can’t drive in boots that’s the only thing.”

Danielle: “You’re driving tonight?”

Kate: “Yeah I definitely don’t wanna spend money on drinks. Also, it’s gonna be SO crazy at this bar I’m not sure how long we’ll actually wanna stay.”

Danielle: “Fair enough. I’ll go get ready. I’m gonna text my coworker Jenna to see if she wants to meet up with us. I promised her I would if we decided to go out.”

Later when Danielle and Kate are arriving at the new bar.

Kate: “It’s chilly out.”

Danielle: “Girl, I told you to wear your new black top because it was long sleeve! Shouldn’t have changed last minute.” Danielle shakes her head but smiles.

Kate: “Yeahhhhh . . . like usual I probably should have listened.” Kate says with a smirk

Danielle: “Wait … no way … is that the place we’re going?!” Danielle points to a rambunctious crowd.

Kate: “That is the longest line I have ever seen.”

Danielle: “OMG there’s Jenna towards the front. I forgot to tell you she’s 18, but she never has any trouble getting into the bars.”

Kate: “No way that girl is 18 looks 34 for sure.”

Danielle: “Yeah exactly. Acts like it too. Honestly, I’m not sure I wanna wait in this line tonight.”

Kate: “I’m with you sister. I’m exhausted and already cold.”

Danielle: “How bout we just head over to our favorite Mexican spot. You know the one we went to all the time when we first started college.”

Kate: “El Limon? I like that idea. I’ll text the group chat and say we’re going there instead.”

Danielle: “Yeah I got a quesadilla from that new place on our block, and it made me think of our old hang out spot. That quesadilla gave me what’s the word . . . Oh my god what is it? Ohhh nostalgia.”

Kate: “I forgot how good their quesadillas are! Oh, now I’m really excited.”

Danielle: “Wait a minute. Did you watch Bachelor in Paradise yet?”

Kate: “Random. But no, I had too much work on Tuesday, so I missed it and haven’t been able to get caught up yet.”

Danielle: “I know, it just popped into my head. But Kate. The episode was so so good. You have to watch it asap.”

Kate: “Okay okay. Not tonight though. When we get home wanna watch a movie?”

Danielle: “Sure. Let’s go get some margs and brainstorm some movies to watch.”

Kate: “No margs for me. But guac on the other hand . . . calling my name. Text your friend Jenna that we’re leaving too. Maybe we can give her a ride home later?”

Danielle: “You’re too kind Kate. Yeah, I’ll text her. Let’s go.”

Danielle and Kate exit.

Working Day in the Life: 21 Months Old

Hi friends! It has been ages since I did a day in the life post – especially a day in the life post on one of my work days vs. mom life days!

We have childcare twice a week – on Mondays from 10 to 4 and Wednesdays from 10 to 6. I can get a little work done on my mom days during naptime as well, but Mondays and Wednesdays are my days to get more focused work done, to take AnneTheRD nutrition client meetings or calls, and occasionally to go to appointments or attend to other stuff that’s not toddler-friendly. :)

So – here’s what I was up to this week on Wednesday!

6:15 a.m. – I always seem to wake up right around this time which is annoying if Riese isn’t up yet and if I’m not trying to do an early workout! I usually do early morning workouts (6 or 6:30 a.m.) 2 or 3 days a week, but this is not one of those days, so I try to fall back asleep.

6:45 a.m. – No dice, can’t fall back asleep, and I hear Riese waking up anyway. Matt is in the shower so I get myself up and going and head in to get her up, change her diaper, etc.

7:15 a.m. – Come downstairs and start breakfast! This basically entails Riese flipping out and refusing to be put down, so I do everything one handed. Usually I’ll get her started in her high chair with some fruit before I give her the rest of her breakfast, especially if I need two hands to make whatever else I’m making!

I have some leftover Veggie Egg Casserole and some fruit and muesli, plus yogurt that Riese feeds to me. ;) Sidenote – Riese LOVES banana and I’ve been giving it to her with a little nut butter on each bite – helps keep her full longer than just the banana alone… especially if it’s a day where she only wants to eat the banana and nothing else.

We say bye to Matt at 7:20 – he has an early meeting to get to.

7:45 – 9:20 a.m. Bumble around the house cleaning up from breakfast, playing with the dog and cat and various toys, feeding the dog and cat, and getting myself and Riese ready for the day.

I love that our sitter doesn’t come until 10 a.m. – our previous nanny used to arrive at 8 a.m., and while the extra hands were helpful, I love our new routine and am grateful to get to spend morning time with Riese every day of the week now. :)

9:25 a.m. – We finally make it out the door! Every weekday morning Riese and I take the dog for a walk or a jog. I’m always proud when we finally get out the door because it’s so many logistics… getting dressed and ready for me and Riese, getting the (outrageously excited and jumping all over us) dog ready and waiting by the door with her leash, collar, poop bags, etc., getting a snack for Riese ready and both of our water bottles ready, grabbing (/trying to find) my phone and hat, getting Riese in the stroller while the dog waits inside, THEN bringing the dog out and attaching her leash to the stroller, then putting sunscreen on both of us… OMG so much. Ha. I can only imagine this with more than 1 child… (not pregnant, just a comment)!

Sidenote – thank you for all your helpful comments on Monday’s blog post about bribery and strong toddler opinions… I’ve been reframing things with the morning stroller and now instead of “please just get in the stroller and I will give you a snack” – I’ve been talking it up and saying “Let’s get dressed, and then you can enjoy your snack in the stroller when we walk the dog.” Same outcome, but framed more positively for both of us. :)

9:30 – 10 a.m. – Stroller run with Riese and the dog! It’s pretty hot out already but I was craving a workout and our dog is always super happy if we run vs. walk. ;)

We probably cover about 1.5 to 2 miles, which is about my max when the stroller is in the mix. That ish is hard!

10 a.m. – Arrive back home just as the sitter arrives – perfect timing! I always try to time it like this so that Riese is still in the stroller and I can quickly show our nanny the food situation for Riese for the day and then send them right off to the playground, vs. Riese coming inside first, clinging to my legs and crying, etc.

She’s still sad when I say bye, but if she’s still in the stroller at least it’s easy to quickly get her distracted and off to their adventure.

10:10 a.m. – Hop in the shower and get ready for the day.

10:40 a.m. – Head out the door with my work stuff in tow. #WetHairDontCare

I take a bit of a roundabout route to avoid going by the playground or down the street where Riese and our sitter could be walking around… if Riese sees me she’ll get really sad all over again (and so will I)!

I also eat a snack while I’m walking – a peanut butter oatmeal ball from Stomping Ground in Del Ray + an Oatmeal Banana Coconut Cookie (

I packed two of each so I save the other two for the afternoon!

10:50 a.m. – Grab a quick iced latte because I realize I forgot to have coffee this morning and I’m dragging.

11 a.m. – Tour a co-working space in Del Ray! I mentioned last week that I tried one out in Old Town, Alexandria that I really liked, but I discovered there’s one walking distance to our house so I wanted to give it a shot too because not having to drive (and deal with expensive/annoying Old Town parking) would be ideal.

11:05 a.m. – It’s a small space so it was a quick tour! They let me stay and work for the day to test it out, which is what I was hoping, so I set up shop and get going. It’s SUPER quiet (only one other person around) which I actually don’t love because I’d rather have more life/action going on, but the convenience may mean I go with this place over the Old Town one even though I liked the more lively vibe better in Old Town… we’ll see.

My blog post for the day (my Watermelon Mojito Sorbet) is already live (I wrote it and pre-published it on Monday so it would appear on Wednesday morning – I usually do this nowadays since I’m not actively online as early as I used to be), so I spend some time sharing it around on social media, sending the links to the client, and then catching up on emails and blog comments.

12:40 p.m. – Break for lunch! I walk over to Stomping Ground and order their beet salad with roasted chicken added.

It’s really delicious!

While I eat, I listen to an episode of Janet Lansbury’s parenting podcast “Unruffled” that a bunch of you recommended to me in the comments section of Monday’s post. I love that the episodes are mostly only about 20 minutes – perfect!

I listen to the January 22 episode about how to set limits with children (even those as young as Riese). It’s really interesting and helpful! I also got her book (“No Bad Kids: Toddler Discipline Without Shame“). Matt downloaded it on Audible and is going to listen to it in the car on his commute so we are on the same page.

1 p.m. – Take a quick walk around the block (technology free) to reset and get some fresh air.

1:15 p.m. – Back to my desk!

I spend the rest of the afternoon catching up on emails, working ahead on some blog stuff (like starting this post, and another recipe post that’s in the works), and working on some blog redesign to-do items (reviewing old recipe blog posts to see which ones I want to keep/feature – they sent me a massive spreadsheet of links to go through, oof).

At some point I get tired of sitting and set up this makeshift standing desk using a filing cabinet. ;)

Around 4, I eat the rest of my snack from the morning. I probably should have brought something savory and crunchy with me as well because I’m still a little hungry and craving something not sweet or chewy, but oh well!

5 p.m. – AnneTheRD nutrition client call.

5:30 p.m. – Send my client a follow up email, wrap up a few other loose end emails, and pack up and head out the door.

5:55 p.m. – Arrive home – yay! It’s always so fun to come home to Riese – she gets SO excited and runs towards me. It’s the best. :)

6 p.m. – Say farewell to our sitter and go upstairs to play with Riese.

6:45 p.m. – Riese starts getting a little manic (throwing heavy wood toys down the stairs, and when I ask her to please keep the toys upstairs with us, she instead starts throwing them at me… ahh, toddlers) so I decide it’s time to get her ready for bed. Usually Matt gets home between 6:30 and 7 but he texted that it would be a late one, so I know I’m not trying to keep Riese up to see him!

7:15 p.m. – Finally get Riese wrangled into her jammies, drinking some milk, and reading a book/singing with me to try to calmmmm things down a bit before bed.

7:30 p.m. – Lights out for Riese. Night, night!

I come downstairs and snack on some crackers and guac while trying to decide if I feel up for making an elaborate dinner. ;)

I eventually decide to throw together a simple rice, beans, and fish situation.

I pan sear some fish rubbed with a little Mexican-themed seasoning…

And then serve it with 90 second brown rice, microwave string beans, and some canned black beans. Easy and fast! Enjoyed with a magazine. :)

8:30 p.m. – Clean up the kitchen, tidy up downstairs, and then sort through some mail and packages.

My new purse came – cute, right? Less than $20 on Amazon and comes in a ton of color options, too! I needed a new everyday purse that would match everything – I had two I alternated between but both were basically falling apart after many years of use. I was nerdy excited to put all my stuff away in this. I like the size – not too big, but big enough to fit a water bottle, phone, wallet, etc.

9 p.m. – Head upstairs and get ready for bed.

9:15 p.m. – In bed! Getting in bed early to read is my fave. I start reading the “No Bad Kids” book – interesting, although I wish she went into a little more detail about how to carry out her advice…

9:30 p.m. – Matt is home! Wow, that was a late one. Poor guy! We catch up on our days and relax.

10 p.m. – Lights out! I’m wiped and I have my alarm set for 5:33 am (yes, those 3 minutes matter) to hit a yoga class – oof!

So – here’s what I was up to this week on Wednesday!

We say bye to Matt at 7:20 – he has an early meeting to get to.

uh yeah so I wasn't planning on watching the episode until the weekend but my sister woke up super early and started like dancing or swinging from the ceiling fan or something and it woke me up so now I will bring back the guac episode text blocks :')

this episode was insane and it's hard to believe that the next few episodes could be any better. I honestly wish the season started off as strongly as this because now it's just like from episode 7 onwards we're just being hit with action and drama.

I've got a lot of thoughts on this finale.

starting with the length.

27 minutes? really?

I'm not asking for a 2 hour episode but cmon, at least give us something closer to 40 minutes.

next, the characters

the characters just didn't feel like themselves, especially portwell.

all season long we saw how much potential they had, how well communicated they were, how good they were at being a proper, healthy couple, and now they just can't talk to each other?

it doesn't feel like them.

portwell had arguably the best set up of all the other ships, they showed us how good they had the potential to be only to throw in a cheap plot to wrap it up? I would understand that they want some angst to make the ending all the more satisfying, but this was pathetic.

there I said it.

of all the ways to add drama in a ship, don't use the one that completely contradicts their entire development.

paired with the length of the episode, it seemed even more poorly written.

here I made a lovely, handy dandy homemade graph to represent how I see portwell's storyline:

as i said before, we saw the build up being nearly perfect. they peaked during episodes 9-11 because they just had the chemistry, the communication, and the most potential to be the endgame couple.

they just got eachother.

then we get Jamie popping in for 10 seconds and erasing a lot of that, only for mediator Ashlyn to jump in and solve their problems.

then there's the "kiss".

I know that Sofia is underage and that even if she/her legal guardians consent to the kiss, the writers can still decide not to show it, but still. In my opinion, if you're not going to show the kiss, then don't bother.

there are other ways to establish a relationship that would work better in this situation. Of course if they get together they'll have to kiss sometime, but one way they could postpone it is by having Gina be a bit more reluctant to give away her first kiss like that. it could also show how accomodating EJ is.

I like to think that Gina is very meticulous when making decisions so she'll probably want to be very sure of the relationship before giving him her first kiss. perhaps she'd stick to cheek kisses until she's ready, and then she kisses him and he's surprised.

that would've been, in my opinion, a sufficient way to hold off the kiss while still wrapping up portwell until season 3 when Sofia would be 18 (assuming they get picked up for S3 this summer then start filming fall-winter. Sofia will be 18 in January).

as my friend @rtcosley (idk why it's not letting me tag them, so their page is linked) said,

"They created like 10 plots

And instead of wrapping it up

They added 4 more"

there's just so much more they could've done...it's the season finale for crying out loud.

I get that seblos already had (what I assume is) their storyline for the season, the fight and resolution. Ignoring the fact that that only lasted for 2 episodes and didn't have anything to do with what we were expecting, (i.e.the financial differences between their families, as mentioned in episode 1, the fact that everyone treats seb like he's stupid, this being carlos' first show and the drama that the stress of that caused, etc.), seblos had to purpose this episode than to stand next to eachother and be gay.

I get that they're not part of the core four or anything, but the poster for season 2 has all of them, as opposed to season 1 just being the core four.

They deserved better, just like redlyn and kowie.

redlyn's arc was pretty early in the season compared to the other ships. they had Ashlyn confessing her insecurities in episode 3, antoine stirring the pot of confusion and causing a bit of distance between them briefly, and then big red confessing his goals and plans for the future in episode 8 and for the rest of it, we just see them getting closer and more comfortable with each other and caring about each other more and more.

they had a good arc together.

but that's just it. I wanted to see them have their own arcs. but then again, this show can't seem to balance multiple storylines. I think it is possible, but not when they keep adding new characters that don't contribute anything much to the story(more on that later).

kowie's storyline is... confusing.

I really like their dynamic, how carefree and happy Kourtney gets around him, how she's remaining true to herself and managing a million and one things, plus a relationship in her own without losing herself to it all.

but the main issue I have is that the entire development was never shown.

we went from strangers, to coworkers, to friends that flirt, to lovers that text constantly and went on numerous dates (and Howie met her mother at some point). but all of that, was off screen.

it's like the writers made every episode with them in it kind of thrown in at a new stage of relationship progression and said "here, accept this, no questions asked because we don't have answers"

I just wish we could've seen more of howie trying to get in her good side again after episode 7 because it seems like that's when a lot of it happened.

I appreciate the Rini scene in this episode, seems to be the very end of them, for good this time.

i'm happy about that.

Ricky especially deserves to be free for a while to focus on his development, and Nini has the chance now to really shine through her talents and make a name for herself.

The Rini storyline is the only one I'm fully satisfied with.

now, that being said;

what the heck are they trying to pull with Lily and Ricky rn???

just like that.

after lily being the villain this whole season, they're just gonna not redeem her and then have her confess her feelings to Ricky, a guy she barely knows and only talked to to harass and intimidate, and for him to reject her publicly then call her afterwards?

please I hope it's just to say "you dropped something, here it is and never contact me again, thanks." /hj

speaking of the villains, this season was promoted as the season of rivalry between North and East High right? so why did that plot idea only progress in about 3 out if 12 episodes?

we got Zackey Roy in there for a few episodes then he disappeared, Lily just caused Gina to stay true to her friends in episode 2 and 7 and then basically did nothing else?

this is what I mean by the new characters providing nothing to the show.

the writers can't manage having so many characters and plots at once so they start so many promising arcs, only to kick them aside later on.

we already know that the first half of the season felt like filler episodes, so I think they could've cut those down to leave room for the more important plots to take root, rather than have them pop up and get rushed at the end of the season.

all that, and they just add 4 more plots at the end of the season.

this post sounds very negative looking back...but if I'm being honest with myself, I'm just very very disappointed.

I love this show so much and I really expected better for the season finale, especially if they don't know if it's getting renewed or not.

given the IMDB ratings of this episode so far, I don't have very high expectations for the renewal, but I'm still hopeful because this show is a great thing, one of the best things that happened to me over the course of this quarantine. I've become so attached to this show, the cast and the friends I made through it, that I don't know what I would do if it just ends like this. writing these reviews and posts about this season has been so fun for me to do and thinking that this may be the very last one is a painful thought.

I'm sorry if you were expecting this post to be as light-hearted as my other posts about the episodes, I just had a lot to say about this episode in particular.

Anyone else feel like Rini has been off all season (so far)?

Like we started off with 'Something in the air' where Rini is all lovey and happy and "We'll never break apart".

Then we find out that Nini has been hiding the fact that she's moving, until the literal night before she leaves,

”I'm leaving for Denver in t-minus 13 days, on New year's Day"

proceeds to wait until midnight New year's day to finally spit it out, even after the whole perfect gift scene.

Then Ricky blames himself??

"Can you blame her? The last time she said she was leaving, I said wanted to take a pause"

Ricky, baby.

It. is. not. your. fault.

The last time it was her going to summer camp for the summer, this time it's her leaving for an entire year or more at a whole new school at a whole new city IN A WHOLE NEW STATE.

SHE HAD NO EXCUSE NOT TO TELL YOU.

Then it seems like Ricky's the only one actively trying to make their relationship work. I get that Nini's at this new school and it's hard work and all but like, Ricky's moving houses, dealing with his parents' divorce, and as he literally said to nini "you're my rock".

He needs Nini a lot, she's the only constant in his life and as of right now, it seems as though she's being a bit self absorbed.

Nini is trying to find her future while wanting to hold on to her current/past relationship dynamic, when it's not going to stay the same, when everything about the circumstances are different.

In even when/the best part, I noticed that Ricky has a line that goes, "I'm never giving up on us", while Nini has a line at the same time that goes, "I'm never giving up on you".

i think it represents both of their goals in a way. Nini just wants to keep Ricky but at the same time she knows she's changing and growing in her own way. While Ricky is scared of change and needs "his rock" to be there with him through his growth.

Obviously, Nini isn't supposed to be there holding Ricky's hand, helping him cross every road he comes across, but I think that Ricky and Nini have very different idea of how this relationship is going to progress.

In this new episode, Nini is in town all day yet neither of them makes any real effort to see each other.

Rini's facetime calls in episode 3 (summarised) /s

R: "see you after school?"

N: "yeah no, mama c sprained her ankle"

R: "oh ok dinner time then?"

N: "yeah....but actually no cuz it turns out her ankle is actually broken so for some reason I gotta stay here in the hospital waiting room for my mother that is literally a grown woman instead of going to meet my boyfriend that I haven't seen in a month and a half"

R: "oh I could just come see you in the hospital but nope, imma just disappear for the rest of the episode until we decide to sing songs on voicemail at the very last minute"

To summarize this post:

Rini needs to have a serious talk about what they want from this relationship.

Ricky needs to work on his extreme dependency on Nini.

Nini needs to choose what working towards her future really means, does she want ricky in that future or not.

Ship caswen cuz at this point, it's the only thing that's gonna make Ricky happy. /hj
