hi please i am absolutely obsessed w the colours u use in ur art n i wondered what ur technique was to making palettes ?? i struggle sm w it ):
ok bestie I’m afraid to tell you this but I don’t rlly have a technique I just go with what pleases my eye, and that is usually analogous color schemes because they’re very harmonic n nothing rlly stand out.
I also try to stick to one level hue and saturation, so I either go for low saturation (standard) or high saturation (unusual in don’t rlly work with bright colors) . also temperature I either choose warm or cool tones and it’s usually warms
and you can track whether you’re sticking to one analogous palette and one hue & saturation & temperature level by paying attention to the color wheel? like if i choose my 1st color (usually skin), I try not to stray too far from my starting point in the literal sense like I don’t use a low saturation beige (hair, skin, shirt) and then jump to bright blue (eyes) that wouldn’t be harmonious anymore etc etc
so yeah what it boils down to is kinda knowing how to navigate the color wheel I guess and I’m still working on that so idk what else to say other than trying to choose one color and to not go crazy with multiple levels of hue, saturation, temperature etc etc then it’ll look harmonious?
also I don’t use black and white, I pick softer alternatives (dark blue for black or light beige for the white in the eyes etc etc)
anyway maybe look at this screen recdoring and pause to see how I navigate the color wheel, as you’ll see I stay in one field and don’t choose from extreme points? Like howl’s pants are black but I didn’t wanna use a pure black because it would’ve stuck out so I used a dark brown, and the white of the eyes isn’t a pure white it’s his skin tone but in lighter so yeah it’s all about contextualizing your colors
alsooo I like looking at other artists color choices and try to figure out how their process might’ve been or why exactly I like their colors? @/pfeffersteakk isn’t on here anymore but they had this tutorial up a long time ago and I think it demonstrates p well how to go for a harmonious color palette and mine aren’t THAT analogous I think but yeah I hope this helpsssssssss
