Your anons bringing up the fact that we never actually see Aegon in the child fighting pits except for Erryk's words reminds me of some thoughts I was having:
Like, Ser Erryk (and almost the entire audience, including green fans) took this exchange to mean that Aegon attends the fighting pits because he has a sadistic glee in watching children fight but like. What if that part was actually wrong?
What if in season 2 we find out that Aegon attends the child fighting pits NOT because he likes seeing children beat up each other, but because he's actually there to support his bastard son? (Who I'm 90% is Gaemon) He's not there for any sadistic reasons, he just wants to make sure that HIS kid is winning. He's actually an overly-enthusiastic sports dad in the worst way possible. He's the loudest one in the stands cheering for Gaemon, he's helping to clean the blood of him and bandage his bruises when it's all done, he's jumping to intervene in the match and yelling at the referee when Gaemon is doing badly/getting too hurt, he's complementing his moves and trying to "coach" him on how best to win, he's saying that he's truly proud of him! Father-son bonding! Aegon thinks he's actually trying to be a good dad! (He's really not) Deep down, he actually really doesn't like seeing his kid stuck in the fighting pits where he's hurt, but he also conveniently forgets that he's a prince and can actually do something about it if he like. Tried.
I would honestly be willing to forgive the writers for introducing this plot element if they go this route because of the dark comedy potential, and it would also be a very strong introduction to Gaemon in general. But mostly just because the interpretation of Aegon getting sadistic glee from watching kids beat each other up is just so cartoonish that I'm willing to take any alternative explanation.
(P.S: Also, it implies that Aegon IS capable of being a present and attentive father to his kids, but he only does this to his bastard son. When it comes to his trueborn children, he just straight-up ignores them and that makes it even more fucked up and hilarious. My personal interpretation is that his trueborn kids remind him of being married to Helaena, which he really doesn't like, so in order to not think about that he just pretends they don't exist. But still, selectively deadbeat dad Aegon is the Aegon in my heart)
i have to say, i've already been in contact with this idea of aegon being the worst soccer mom / momager (dadager?) ever, preoccupied with his bastards' sporting careers in the field of pit fighting, and i have to say it's so absolutely bonkers hilarious that i love it
i wouldn't even be mad if they decided to go with this as an explanation out of the sheer absurdity of it all

aegon as the leader of the stands, making up chants and insults. give me that insane surrealist comedy in my dragon show
