Alright, give me everything you've got // Rules and the Specifics
EVENT SCHEDULE:
Signups Open: October 29th Signups Close: November 15th Assignments Given: November 20th Check-in: December 6th Deadline to submit your gift: December 20th Posting: December 25th
Mods will message all participants on November 20th with their preferred method of communication and give them the wishlist of the person they will be making a gift for. Everyone will have a month to create their gift.
There will be a check-in midway through to ensure all participants are working on, or are still interested in working on their gift. This is mandatory, but please don't stress about it even if you haven't started on your gift at that time! It's just us checking on your progress and ensuring we have active contact with all participants.
Submit your gift to [email protected] by email once you're finished. If you'd like, you may include a message to your recipient in the same email, which will be posted publicly alongside your gift on December 25th. Submitting finished gifts through email is highly preferred, but if you're really not comfortable with that, or don't have an email, you may private message us your gift instead.
RULES:
Your gift must follow your recipient's wishlist and respect their blacklist.
Your gift must be finished. We're purposely keeping the definition of "finished" vague, but it should at the very least have color and, if your gift is a drawing, have little to no sketch or construction lines. If you are submitting writing, your finished work must be a minimum of 1200 words (but can be however long you'd like) and should be able to be read standalone, with no additional context or chapters needed.
No NSFW/18+ content is allowed in this event. You may not request it nor gift it. Any romantic pairings involving minors and adults together are also banned.
Do not post about your gift or who you're gifting for before gifts are revealed. This also extends to not posting WIPS and not messaging your giftee. Additionally, if you have a question for your giftee, message us and we will relay the question for you.
If during the event, you think you need to drop out, or need an extension, please message us as early as possible.
Be respectful and have fun!
WISHLISTS:
Tumblr media
Make a wishlist using Google Docs or a .txt file. If using Google Docs, your wishlist must be able to be viewed by anyone with the link. If you do not know how to make your document public, click here for a tutorial.
List at least two characters and at least three prompts. Order them top to bottom from most wanted to least wanted.
At the bottom of your wishlist, have a blacklist section listing what you do not want to gift and what you do not want to receive for any reason. Make the "gifting blacklist" and the "receiving blacklist" each their own section. The gifting blacklist will help us assign you to a suitable partner, while the receiving blacklist will inform your santa what not to make for you.
To make this event friendly to all artists of all skill levels, characters from other series are not permitted. OC's that are not Kirby OC's or not in the Kirby universe are also not permitted.
Gijinkas and Kirby OC's/FC's are allowed, but you must provide a link to their design.
Here's an example wishlist including examples of all of the criteria above. Feel free to copy it and use it as a template if you'd like. [link]
POSTING:
All gifts will be posted on this blog on December 25th, listing both the gifter and giftee along with a note the gifter left, if they left one. Once the gift you made is posted, you may post it on other sites and show it anywhere you please.
PORTFOLIO:
The sign-up sheet will ask you for a portfolio.
For artists who draw and crafters: make a Google Drive folder showing at least three (but up to ten) finished pieces of yours. You can also just link to any art posts you've made, or include links to the images themselves. As long as we can see your art, it's all good. We ask this to ensure all participants are eligible to participate (for example, we wouldn't accept someone who has no finished art, or is unable to take photos of their art in good quality). Depending on the results of this poll, we may also use this portfolio to assign partners. Again, if you use Google Drive, please make sure your folder is visible to everyone who has the link.
For writers: Please link any clean writing work you've done. You are only required to show one piece minimum, but at least one piece (out of however many you chose to link) must be at least 1200 words. The work(s) you link do not have to be considered finished, but they should be clean (not drafts, and with reasonably good spelling and grammar).
If you can gift multiple types of art, you can include examples of all of those types of art in your portfolio. It's not required, but it will help us pair you. Please follow one set of requirements above, at minimum.
Other things to keep in mind:
You may make as many gifts for your recipient as you'd like, as long as they follow their wishlist. The more the merrier, as they say. But the minimum (and the default!) is just one gift. Don't feel pressured to make multiple.
If you're gifting traditional art, make sure youre able to either scan it, or photograph it in good lighting and in good quality. Ideally the picture should be cropped so that any sort of background is not visible.
Physical crafts and other gifts of that nature should likewise be photographed in good lighting and good quality.
Going a little wild with your gift is a-okay. Extra things like animation, comics, fancy backgrounds, etc, are very welcome. (Though if it happens anyone doesn't want to receive these things for whatever reason, note it on your blacklist).
Reminder: submit your gift to [email protected] by email once you're finished, or private message us your gift if you really don't want to use email. Include a message to your giftee in the same email/message, if you want to. It will be posted alongside your gift on Christmas.
Ready to sign-up? All links are at the bottom of all information posts. Send us an ask or message if you have any questions.

Writing/Art Update 3/7/2023
What even was last week? I don't know. It's gone now. I spent a lot of time putting medicine in my dog. The children had a three-day weekend. (The dog is recovering very well from her surgery, thank you all for your kind wishes).
I continue to write sentences. This fanfic. I don't know. Remember when I said I expected it to be between 5 and 10k? Well, it's over 12k now. Granted, a couple hundred words of that is working-scrap text that'll get deleted when I get a few of the scenes finished up. On the other hand, it's not done. This is not one of those fanfics that has such a sophisticated thing as a plot, so it's just... whatever I put into it, but I would like it to have some sort of narrative progression, and I'm not even sure I'm there yet. Have I even told you what it's about? I don't think I have. It's about the two weeks Rukia and Renji spent at the  District 70 Consolidated Shinigami Recruitment Station, waiting for approval to travel north to take their entrance exams. It's weird and rambly and it's kind of a break-up story and there's a old dude shinigami who noped out of the Gotei who teaches them a bunch of world-buildy stuff that I made up. I usually don't mind when my stories go long, because usually my writing is funny or at least enjoyable to read, but I am really questioning whether anyone wants to read 12k worth of Renruki doing SAT prep. Truly, I am in my weird art era.
I was able to tally up what I think is left to do, which is as follows:
4 partially written scenes I need finish
2 scenes to port over from the original story (how have I not done this yet???)
6 scenes to write completely
3 more optional scenes
Anything else i come up with in the interim
Edit edit edit edit edit
This seems like about two weeks of work, but I'm sure it's more like three, and maybe more than that. I'm kind of counting it to all magically come together in the end, but I think it may need a little more work than that. I'm also mentally preparing myself for a longer trip to the beta than usual. I can see my way to the end, though, and that's pretty exciting! I even have a title! I've thought about giving you some preview bits, but I think it's still a little too early for that. Maybe next week!
Ahhhh, also this week I started writing a porno. I'm sorry. You know how it is. The urge hits and I grab catch the wave or it just passes by. Don't get too excited. If you've followed these updates for any amount of time, you know that if I start writing an adult fanfic, there's about a 50-50 chance I'll get 1/3 of the way into it and just give up. It's 1500 words at the moment. Working on the porno does not count towards My Sentences, so I'm sort of using it as a bribe for myself to work on once I've already met my daily goal on the other one. It takes place in the Advanced Team Arc and they Do it in the Urahara Shouten storeroom. Unfollow me if you want, it's not like there's a glutted market of spicy Renruki stories.
I did not draw anything last week. I should draw something this week.
5500 words this week! I haven't had a 5k+ week since last November! I need to get over the fact that that 10k weeks aren't things that happen to me anymore, and this was a really good one, actually!

I'm not really part of the death note fandom anymore but Ive noticed an interesting bit of fanon.
A lot of fans draw/describe Light with tanned skin, when in the anime and manga he's fairly light-skinned. The only canon source I can think of where he has a tan completion is the official illustrations by Obata. (Comparison below)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway I don't really have a point here but I would like to say, keeping drawing him with tan skin. It's an improvement from the show in my opinion.
It differentiates him further from L, making his pale skin look even more stark. It also makes it harder to confuse him for a white dude, which is good since Death Notes story is so rooted in Japanese society and its Justice system. Also generally tired of people making jokes that Light is a white man.
Edit: changed some of my wording and added the last sentence

Hey death note fandom, I'm trying to find a fic I read about a year ago.
It was a story on fanfiction.net and it was set in alternative timeline of death note.
Basically it starts of with Sorchiro Yagami's funeral, which L attends. Sorchiro was killed in a car accident, but L is fairly sure it was kira's doing. Sorchiro and him were the only ones looking into the kira case at the time, with Sorchiro losing respect at NPA. They haven't found any new leads on the case.
L's approached by a college age Light yagami who wants to help continue to search for kira. L agrees to work with light, even if he's not exactly trusting of him, as he needs extra help. They both get an apartment by the TO-HO campus to investigate kira.
The fic was abandoned, and was made sometime in the early 2010s late 2000s. It was also a Lawlight fic, with some fake dating in its later chapters.
If anyone can link it or remember the title of the fic I'd be extremely grateful, it's one of my favorite Death note fics and I want to archive it.

My #1 post of 2022
Don't get me wrong I love Taika Watiti's work as much as the next gay atm but the amount of like parasocial worship of him I've seen recently makes me nervous.
I think it's important to remember we all know a very small sliver of him as a person.
At the end of the day he's just a guy whose making and in a lot of good things atm.

Note
I love that you committed to Inktober. I like that I get to see you draw characters that you haven't drawn in a while and seeing how they've changed.
thank you so much anon!! this means a lot to me. i was really worried at first but now the month’s nearly over and i’ve been doing pretty darn well? i think i shook off some art block without realizing it, too. i consider myself largely a novice with my marker skills, but doing this has both made me a faster inker and get more familiar with coloring traditionally which was great-- then half way through i started to draw lesser known OCs as a way to re-familiarize with them (there’s somethin real personal about traditional work so it makes sense?) and it became this really fun thing that helped me out in so many ways. i’m glad you like them too!!
On that note: Starting tonight my inktobers are probably gonna start being late, and/or i may do make-up days in november. i am gearing up for crunch time because my flight to see @dyemelikeasunset is this Wednesday and i got xmas gifts to wrap early and things to pack and errands to run. i’ll do my best to squeeze inks in when i can though because i’ve been really proud of myself this month and want to keep going to the end if at all possible! wish me luck

Conversation
BVB Feiertagsmagazin w/ Marco Reus (28/01/17) - English translation
Nobby: I'm really happy that Marco's here with me today for the return of the second half of the season. He has already announced that it's gonna be a close game of Goal or No Goal today. You're very well prepared, you have watched the last 600 goals of Borussia Dortmund.
Marco: (laughs) I asked Fritz. He knows practically everything.
Nobby: Fritz... that's your Phone-A-Friend lifeline, isn't he?
Marco: That'd be a good idea...although... he can't see the screen... or we do it via facetime but I don't know if he has facetime...
Nobby: (laughs) Or if he knows how to use it.
Marco: Or if he knows how to use it, right...
Nobby: Well, Marco, you had to be patient for a long time. Since the end of November you're back. How was the time before that and how do you feel now?
Marco: Of course that period of time was though. I was really impatient, I'm already an inherently impatient person and it was hard to just sit in the stadium each time and not being able to help the team but I stayed patient and worked really hard for my comeback and I'm working even harder now in order to stay fit and improve a bit.
Nobby: There was a moment of shock against Bremen. I was in front of my tv thinking "Please... not the leg!" You thought you could go past him somehow but then Drobný still hit you hard. You could see it on tv for a second, that looked really deep and severe. But we're glad you got off lightly because we need our Marco, especially against Mainz.
---INTERLUDE---
Nobby: You scored ten goals against Mainz. There's no opponent against which you scored more goals.
Marco: That's nice!
Nobby: Is there anything like a favourite opponent?
Marco: (sighs, starts thinking)
Nobby: (laughs) I can already see that you don't think about such things.
Marco: Not much to be honest. But um yeah... why should the stats lie? Of course, I'd be happy if things continue like this but we obviously know that it's tough, especially in Mainz, that we've always struggled in the last few years and that it has always been a close call. There have always been a lot of tackling and I think it won't be any different this time. It's important that we're focused right from the very first second and...
Nobby: Mainz is just very disciplined. Always.
Marco: Yes absolutely! Especially on home ground they're very disciplined, they stay in their formation particularly during pressing and we have to try to find a good solution.
Nobby: Coming back to Bremen: Apart from your 'souvenir' that you brought back home it was a successful start of the year 2017. What lessons do you draw from such a game?
Marco: We didn't do too well, especially in the second half where we have been outnumbering them for quite a while already. Defensively as well as offensively. But you basically never know how you'll do after the winter break. We talked about a lot of things and you couldn't get much of a glimpse of what we practised but the win is what's most important right now. We had a few weeks to get ready and to practise the things we weren't able to practise because a lot of us had been injured. I think we'll be able to show some sort of defensive stability in Mainz and offensively we always have the potential to score a goal.
Nobby: My next question would've been: What's crucial in Mainz. Certainly making sure to keep a clean sheet and then score a goal with our fast strikers.
Marco: Well, not only. It takes eleven, especially for defending, that's just the way it is. Generally speaking we always want to keep a clean sheet and keep it tight and do well defensively but sometimes the opponent just does it really well. But I think it's on us and if we live up to our potential for 90 minutes which so far, we haven't managed that often and which it's about time for then we'll hopefully win this game.
Nobby: I completely agree.
---INTERLUDE---
Nobby: Auba is back! I think you are particularly happy about that. You two are very good friends. Was he sad because he 'got kicked out so early'?
Marco: Yeah, of course. I think he was the hope of his nation, especially because they hosted the tournament. He really hoped to get really far, I know that and yeah... they haven't lost a single game but they also haven't won one and that's tough. But I think he could 'shoot out' his frustration during training yesterday. Obviously we're happy he's back and that he's ft and healthy and now we hope he'll gain back more of his confidence and that he'll help us.
Nobby: Were you in contact during the tournament?
Marco: Yeah sure! We talked via facetime and I wrote him after his elimination.
Nobby: I think that's important. You're friends!
Marco: Of course. But Auba is robust mentally and has already experienced some things so...
Nobby: We're sad, obviously. Neven is going to Köln on loan for half a year, Adrian's farewell is also official. What are you going to miss about these two?
Marco: They were go-to guys for the team. Adrian was a really funny guy, really kind...
Nobby: Everyone says that.
Marco: Yes he's... Adrian is just Adrian. He's so kind and very calm. We've always called him "Little Diabolo". So I think I will still be in contact with him and it's the same with Neven. He's been here for years and has celebrated a lot of things. In the end it's his decision and we hope that he'll get back to 100% fitness play in Köln.
Nobby: That's understandable.
Marco: Yes absolutely! Every football player wants to play football and if it doesn't work out in one club you'll have to look for other alternatives to get match practice.
---INTERLUDE---
Nobby: Auba is going to get his prize (BVB goal scorer of the year 2016) next week. You can congratulate him into the camera.
Marco: Yeah Auba... I would've loved to snatch this prize from under your nose but the viewers have decided in your favour. You deserved it! Stay the way you are and have fun!
Nobby: You're not envious of him. Another title...
Marco: Another one for me? Because I have so many already, right? (laughs)
---GOAL OR NO GOAL---
