Marketing mix

 Marketing refers to the strategy for a brand/industry to develop in a sustainable way a product by using different elements. It is a strategy to maintain a sustainable and profitable relationship with customers and so, with a target market. It can be between people/institutions according to company needs.

The “mix” of marketing mix refers to the combination of different elements. We generally talk about the 4p’s, that can also be extended to the 7p’s, and the 4c’s.

4P’s: Product Place Price and Promotion

Product, we study the functionality of the product/service that is offered, as well as the brand and the packaging.  

The price is the amount that the customer is willing to pay for, depending on the market and the quality of the product/service and the experience that will come with it. For example, the price of a concert. The price will also depend of the company, of its renown and reputation.

Placement is how you position a product/service on the market and how you distribute through distribution channels: shops, sales point…

Finally, promotion. Promotion completes the marketing mix and is very important as to the final image of a brand. It is composed of the sales organization, advertising, public relation and sales promotion. Promotion can vary according to the budget in place. A promotional campaign won’t be as big for example for a match in a world cup than for a match in small league.

Thus, the combination of this 4 elements define the 4p’s of the marketing mix. The right combination will give you more chances of success for the product/service but it also very important to always keep in mind who is the market target !

We can also connect today the 4p’s to the 4c’s:

Product will be seen as customer value, price as cost, place as convenience and promotion as communication.

  Should it be the 4p’s or the 4c’s, the marketing mix strategy is essential for profit, client satisfaction and brand image. Combining these elements assures a maximum promotion of a product/service and implies putting in place every strategy to achieve the goals set by the company/institution/person.
