Not to sound like a cynical old broken record but I see a lot of people praising the fact that there’s a “sense of progression & player reward” in AC Switch (I refuse to use the actual name cause I think it’s a dumb name that sounds way too similar to new leaf) but like, that’s not the Point of Animal Crossing. Animal crossing isn’t about all the fancy furniture and clothes and making items and shit. At its core animal crossing is about friendship.
It’s about being able to make a connection to the villagers and just be able to relax! You don’t have too many worries in PG (besides your house loan that you are under No inclination to pay off) because it’s just supposed to be a nice little relaxing life in a forest surrounded by talking animals. Its a series that was created for lonely people that maybe don’t get to see the people they love very often. So maybe now in a time of social media, that stuff might be a little outdated. It’s nice they’re adding new ways to have fun with your friends, but because of that they’ve sacrificed Soooo much of the original charm that made animal crossing so great in the first place.
There’s just so much in this new one for you to micromanage and there’s just so much going on that there’s really no time to just. Relax and chat with villagers. Villagers aren’t even really worth chatting with anymore since they’ve dumbed down their ai over the years so much! They used to have emotions! They used to feel like people! They had lives outside the village and actively wanted things etc. I know it’s been criticized that they were “too mean” but honestly? Showing Some emotion and liveliness in being a little mean sometimes is better than hollow shells that love everything you do and repeat dialogue over and over all the time because they can’t do anything else besides that! HHD improves on that a little by giving them things to do but the dialogue still feels hollow and meaningless.
Yes you can argue that PG villagers repeated themselves too, they’d often say the same greeting and same goodbye everytime but that was a game made in 2001, the GameCube wasn’t exactly a powerful system. Another point I’d like to make is Blathers; Back when new leaf was revealed and it was shown that blathers doesn’t talk your ear off for five minutes anymore, this was met with praise of convience. Seven years later and he just feels... hollow. Like he’s not himself anymore. I expect him to well, Blather On about fossils and fish & bugs etc. He doesn’t do that anymore. He just says thank you, we will put it on display. Blathers talking your ear off about science stuff could get annoying I guess but, he’s a big nerd! Him going into big tangents about the things he’s interested in (kinda like I’m doing now) is a Good thing! It makes him feel more like a person, one with dreams and interests. Him not talking about it anymore just makes him feel like another video game npc to cross off your to do lists.
This is getting long but tldr is; Animal Crossing is not about a sense of progression or cool clothes or shiny new toys and furniture. It’s not about big cities and fancy houses, and while all that stuff is nice, it’s not Animal Crossing. This series at its core... is supposed to be about the friends you make along the way.

I know we talk mad sh+t about ACPC a lot here on tumblr.com in regard to the leaf ticket loot boxes, myself included, but i really feel like we should appreciate the good aspects of the game more..
Other than the obvious examples being that its super cute and calming, its been super helpful for bad insomnia/anxiety nights, Its helped me appreciate villagers i once hated (and i mean hated), It gives us huge insight into future features for acnh (and no, i dont mean the loot boxes, i really think thats a mobile specific thing.), Beautiful graphics, new villager animations, emotions, furniture and clothing options, my god the clothing options! As well as a consistent schedule of events. It’s been a daily game in my life that i’ve been playing long after i abandoned my new leaf town, and as a disabled autistic ND person this game has helped me soooooo much with keeping my mind off things or giving me something to do. And while its good, i really feel ya’ll are expecting a full game experience from what is literally an app mini-game.
Its already apparent that acpc& hhd are places for Nintendo to test features and i really feel like if you have an issue with something you should contact them through acpc as they have shown plenty of times that they are listening and implementing our requests. They wont know we dislike something unless we tell them.
In regards to ACNH i really want ya’ll to think critically for a moment about how much work goes into a good game. You cant expect them to rush things and also implement complicated game mechanics at the same time like some of you do with PC. Ive seen someone get excited that a request they sent in a year ago finally got implemented as an event in ACPC, only to be negative about it without even waiting to see the actual event. Their full request was acknowledged in the end, was easily completed within a few hours, gave you a special fortune cookie on top, and didn’t cost tickets.
This stuff takes time. Not only are they making new events, furniture, clothing, villager models, and cookie sets, but they have a constant schedule of events they obviously have had planned for a long time now. These are artists and programmers, not magicians. Give them some time, and appreciate what we have at the moment because every AC game, including PC, is absolute gold, and honestly does not deserve the hate it gets.
They have put a lot of work into ACPC, they have added sooo many new features to AC as a whole and are proud of it and how much they have added, and i’m sick of people complaining that they asked us to play it at the end of E3. It’s a free game that will keep you occupied till 2020, and yall act like they are being evil withholding your precious NH and giving you peanuts. Like seriously, stop being so ungrateful and impatient and appreciate all the amazing Animal Crossing titles we have until they unveil their masterpiece in March.
This turned out a little more rambley than i anticipated but this has been on my mind for a while now. We really need to stop being so negative about Animal Crossing, especially online. Not only does Nintendo end up seeing a lot of bad feedback about their game but so do random people and fans alike who end up internalizing those remarks. Just like how jokes about Nook being evil have gotten out of control, so does other stuff we say so maybe try being a little more thoughtful and give Nintendo some direct positive feedback once in a while. Nintendo lost $1billion from their announcement that acnh is being delayed and continuous negative comments could very well cost the game itself or future titles.

features they should put in ac • curtains and different window frames. i think they are in happy home designer but • some sort of wind weather to go with the curtains?? on windy days balloons fly faster and windmills turn quicker, on non windy days balloons are alot slower, animals could maybe comment on the weather • ABILITY TO CHOOSE WHERE HOMES ARE PLACED. • cooking!!! food is in the game and kitchen furniture, give us the ability to cook!! maybe make a lil shop that sells ingredients??? maybe you could give it as gifts and recieve it?? imagine getting cute little animal cookies off a neighbour!! maybe you can even see them with cutlery eating it in their homes at lunch or something • more kinds of visits - sleep overs n stuff like that where the villager stays the night, this can be countered (if some say its too long) by still letting you go outside • let the animals sing!!!! you can make a karaoke night in the club!!! • SKIN COLOUR CHANGER INSTEAD OF TANNING THIS IS ALREADY IN HHD I SHOULDN'T RLLY ASK FOR THIS. • MORE SLOTS FOR PATTERNS IN POCKETS SO THEY DONT CHANGE WHEN YOU SWAP DESIGNS OUT. • SOME SORT OF SYSTEM WHERE YOU CAN MAKE PATHS WITHOUT TAKING UP ALL YOUR ITEM SLOTS! (I THINK HAPPY HOME DID THIS A BIT??) • ceiling decor! this is already in HHD tho • the ability to dye clothing! • more villagers! • more hairstyles and face styles! • more mini games on the wii and ds on the game! • the ability to change fish tanks for fish and change bug cages! • ability to change flower pots! • more house styles! • more villager personality types and more interactions between villagers (omg imagine a harvest moon styled situation with lil mini cut scenes?)
