LOS ANGELES - Undisputed Super Middleweight World Champion and pound-for-pound great Canelo Álvarez and unbeaten all-action star and former world champion Jaime Munguía went face-to-face for the first time Tuesday at a press conference in Los Angeles before Canelo Promotions presents their clash of Mexican superstars taking place Saturday, May 4 headlining a PBC Pay-Per-View event on Prime Video from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Canelo vs. Munguía is the first four-belt undisputed title fight between Mexican combatants and harkens back to the great Mexico vs. Mexico matchups of the past. Both Canelo and Munguía expressed respect for their fellow countryman during Tuesday’s press conference and promised to honor their shared heritage with an action-packed main event on Cinco de Mayo weekend.
In addition to the PPV being available for purchase on Prime Video, regardless of Prime membership, fans will also be able to purchase the PPV via DAZN.com. On top of those options, fans will also be able to continue to access the telecast through traditional cable and satellite outlets, and PPV.com.
Tickets for the live event are on sale now at AXS.com. The event is promoted by Canelo Promotions, TGB Promotions, in association with Golden Boy Promotions and Zanfer Boxing Promotions.

Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez pondrá en juego los cetros Supermedianos del CMB, OMB, AMB y FIB ante el tijuanense e invicto Jaime Munguía, a quien le echó muchas flores el tapatío durante la presentación oficial, en Beverly Hills, del combate que se realizará en la T-Mobile Arena de Las Vegas.
"Estoy muy contento y siempre he estado orgulloso de cualquier mexicano, de la música, del deporte, y estoy orgulloso de Jaime Munguía, de lo que ha logrado, y siempre ha tenido mi apoyo y lo va a tener, y hoy nos toca enfrentarnos, lo cual me pone orgulloso, que dos mexicanos acaparen el boxeo a nivel mundial, y el 4 de mayo voy a entregar todo como siempre lo he hecho, que tira golpes y con hambre de triunfar. La gente va a ganar", apuntó el campeón del mundo y considerado uno de los mejores 10 peleadores libra por libra dela actualidad.
"Canelo", de 33 años, llegará al ring con una marca de 60-2-2, 39 KO's, mientras que Jaime, de 27 años, tiene marca invicta de 43-0, 34 KO's.
"Gracias a toda la gente que nos vino a apoyar y a la gente que hizo este encuentro, a la gente de Canelo, de PBC, de Zanfer de Golden Boy, a los que me han ayudado para estar aquí.
"La verdad es que es un gran logro enfrentar al peleador más grande de esta época y el peleador que lleva las cuatro fajas (Supermedianas)", dijo Jaime. "Nos estamos preparando fuerte y es el mayor compromiso de mi carrera. Será una gran pelea y vamos a hacer vibrar a México".
Será la primera vez que "Canelo" tiene una pelea de título mundial ante un mexicano desde 2011 cuando enfrentó a Alfonso Gómez.
Igualmente se confirmó que en el contrato que pactaron los dos boxeadores hay cláusula de revancha.

El pelirrojo mexicano Saul "Canelo" Álvarez, debería despejar tantas dudas que se tejen alrededor de su cuestionada carrera boxistica, jugandose sus dos últimas cartas en el boxeo. De no hacerlo, se retirará millonario en dolares, pero la pobreza como atleta lo perseguirá hasta el fin de sus días, y más allá cuando lo recuerden.
Aun cuando el mal llamado mejor libra por libra, al igual que su manager y muchos de sus seguidores, digan que este mexicano es un extraordinario pugilista, eso no es lo que piensa la mayoría de los analistas de este deporte, y millones de fanáticos, entre ellos sus propios compatriotas de México. Los cuestionamientos van y vienen, en deterioro de su imagen boxistica, por evadir a sus rivales obligatorios, como sos los casos actuales de Jaime Munguia y David Benavidez .
Canelo Álvarez, si quiere trascender en la historia del Boxeo, como figura icónica, deberá decidir este mismo año pelear con estos dos hombres que lo han retado reiteradamente dentro de su misma categoría Super Mediana y vencerlo.
Si logra ganarles, tendrá maximos reconocimientos, despejara todas las dudas sobre sus miedos, "le taparía la boca" a sus detractores y se puede retirar tranquilo como todo un héroe... The reigning WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO Super Middleweight World Champion, Canelo Álvarez will look to extend his own record of successful undisputed title defenses in the four-belt era as he defends his belts for the fourth time in a 12-round matchup against the unbeaten former 154-pound world champion Jaime Munguía, who will compete at the full 168-pound limit for the third straight fight.
Having captured world titles at 154, 160, 168 and 175-pounds, Canelo (60-2-2, 39 KOs) returns to action after a dominant victory last September that saw him drop former undisputed super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo on his way to a unanimous decision. The fighting pride of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Canelo became undisputed at super middleweight in November 2021 by taking the IBF belt from then unbeaten Caleb Plant via an 11th-round TKO. After dropping a light heavyweight title fight against Dmitriy Bivol in May 2022, Canelo rebounded to defeat Gennadiy Golovkin in their September 2022 trilogy fight before besting John Ryder in May 2023.
Under the guidance of his renowned manager and trainer Eddy Reynoso, Canelo has triumphed over a long list of elite fighters since turning pro at just 15-years-old in 2005, including Golovkin, plus Shane Mosley, Erislandy Lara, Miguel Cotto and Sergey Kovalev to name a few. Outside of the Bivol fight, Canelo’s only other defeat came against undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather in September 2013.

The 27-year-old Munguía (43-0, 34 KOs) first burst onto the scene in 2018, shocking Sadam Ali via a fourth-round TKO to claim a 154-pound world championship, which he would go on to defend successfully five times. A native of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, Munguía continued his dominance after moving up to 160-pounds, going 6-0 at the weight class from 2020 through 2022, including triumphs over D’Mitrius Ballard, Gabriel Rosado and Tureano Johnson, all while garnering a reputation as one of the most fan-friendly fighters in the sport.
Munguía made his debut campaigning at super middleweight in June 2023, facing longtime top contender Sergiy Derevyanchenko. Munguía emerged victorious with a unanimous decision in the back-and-forth affair that garnered Fight of the Year honors from the BWAA. In his most recent fight, Munguia joined forces with legendary trainer Freddie Roach, who helped guide him to a dominant ninth-round stoppage of veteran contender John Ryder in January.
