i have an ongoing theory that sam levinson was so pissed that he wasn’t the one who got to make breaking bad so he wrote euphoria originally as a single-season jesse pinkman prequel spinoff (rue being jesse pinkman) but because no network would want to produce that show without the original production team and breaking bad ip, he had to make the show about high school girls instead and then added on additional plot lines about rue’s friends to fill out the world and appeal to the teen girl demographic. then because his original plan was to lead directly into breaking bad he didn’t have a story structure for season 2 so after it got renewed by hbo he was scrambling to put some shit together that still seemed somewhat coherent and wasn’t obviously a breaking bad ripoff (clearly still had some residual similarities) and that’s also why the cassie plot line went absolutely off the rails and he just wrote kat out of the show because he didn’t have any idea what he wanted to do with that and also had beef with barbie ferreira i think. that or he was just fat shaming her and she had enough so. fair on her part
