TIME    PASSES,        BUT    THE    PAIN    REMAINS.        his    own    sister,        a    vicious    murderer.        had    their    closeness    only    been    a    façade?        had    she    truly    only    become    close    to    him    so    that    if    he    died    she’d    never    be    a    suspect?        that’s    the    truly    terrifying    question        :        had    she    planned    for    him    to    be    one    of    her    VICTIMS?        would    she    do    that?        well,        it    seemed    he    had    never    really    known    what    she    was    capable    of.

he’s    moving    on,        but    it’s    hard.        college    distracts    him    slightly,        makes    the    day    to    day    easier,        but    still    his    nights    are    plagued    with    questions.        so    many    unanswered    questions        ;        enough    that    for    so    long    he’d    never    truly    believed    she    did    it.        but    she    was    gone    now,        and    after    her    death    the    murders    seemed    to    stop,        and    as    much    as    he    didn’t    want    to    think    it    the    evidence    seemed    pretty    concrete.

nights    end    up    like    this    often        ;        awaking    suddenly,        gasping    for    air.        nightmares    of    what    she    did,        of    what    could’ve    happened    to    him    if    she    hadn’t    been    caught.        there’s    an    extra    level    of    pain    in    seeing    yourself    killed    by    your    sister,        a    layer    of    pain    nate    had    started    to    get    used    to.

BUT    THEN    THERE’S    HANNAH.        her    voice    breaks    him    from    his    fear,        her    arms    around    him    a    reminder    of    where    he    is.        alissa    is    dead,        the    murders    are    over,        he’s    safe.        but    still    his    hands    shake    and    his    heart    pounds    and    he    questions    how    they    ever    got    to    the    point    that    she’d    snapped.        slowly,        carefully,        he    lays    back    down,        pulls    hannah    closer,        the    warmth    of    her    body    a    comfort    he’d    come    to    constantly    crave.        she’s    a    reminder    of    the    past,        so    similar    to    alissa,        but    she’s    also    one    of    the    only    things    from    his    past    that    doesn’t    cause    pain,        and    how    could    he    ever    let    that    go?
